Hi Brett, depending on what you have to spend, look at the range of delta cards. From the audiophile 2496, which is very affordable, to the delta 1010. I personally have a delta 1010LT and it's fantastic for multi track recording etc. Just a thought, just depends on available cash, how many ins/outs you need etc, good luck, cheers Steve. - Original Message - From: Brett Boyer bboyer...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, November 30, 2009 11:15 PM Subject: Re: Speaking of Creative labs... High Marvin, I don't know about the store that you mentioned, but you can get CD's that are made for burning audio files from Walmart. The Maxwell discs, will cost you about $16.95 for a pack of 10. The Memberex discs will run you about $14.95 for a pack of 12. The SONY discs will run you about $16.95 for a pack of 20. But if you wish to buy CD's in baulk, then you'd want to go to Cassette House. Their website address is: http://www.tape.com/ My best regards. hello, a few things to consider, you want to use duplication grade cd-rs. there higher quality then what stores offer. and also your burner you want to check its firmware to make sure you have the latest installed. the firmware of the drive and blank media type can make a big difference. re-writable cds are more sensative if you get finger prints on those, they end up having more problems then regular cds do. hope some of this helps. thanks les. Re: purchasing blank cds
Hi Marv: A couple of things I saw mentioned on list. In Media Player make sure you have the burn options set to music. Also, I am not sure about how you do it but I think they need to be, perhaps not, mp3 format and I do not know how to set that if it is not already set. Another thing, check your burn speed and set it to slow or medium the default is fast. My Brother In Law said you can not play ReWritable CDs when burned on your Boom Box but I've not checked that out either. I just looked at Media Player and tabbed around finding some things that I mentioned. I could not find the graphic equalizer or the way to set the bass up since my copy to my tape player had a low bass and I could not mess with it in the sound card either. Anyway, keep notes since I will be trying to burn something real soon myself. That is USB, isn't it? How is the latency with soft synths? That model goes back to at least 2005. Don't know what they have now. I just Googled it. Looks like they have a Cakewalk branded version now. I also thought about getting an Edirol. A friend has the FA-66 which sounds great but he doesn't do any multi-tracking with it. So, I don't know how good the firewire would work. I might also be better off with a USB version. I like that the controls are all hardware with the FA66. Re: Surround plugins hardware etc
The best I've been able to use is the SRS WOW! built in to Windows Media Player. I find it works best on the large speakers setting. The headphone setting sounds filtered and closed in to me. SRS has Windows software but the demo wasn't to Jaws friendly. I believe they also have hardware. A friend had a hardware unit some years ago. The quality could have been better. I previously had Stream FX for Winamp from Spatializer Audio but they appear to have gone out of business. All the other 3d audio plug-ins I've tried for WMP were not at all Jaws friendly. Couldn't find a control anywhere with the Jaws cursor. soft synths
Hi guys, Have you guys tried the software versions of the Prophit 5, Minimoog or CS-80? How accessible are the software synths? I'm using window-eyes 7.11. For a sighted user, the software synth recreates the front pannel of the hardware synthesizer on the screen. You can twiddle with the knobs and switches on the screen. So instead of paying thousands of dollars for an older synth, for maybe $200 you can get a software version of that synthesizer. I own a Minimoog model D synth and it sounds great, but if I could have access to some software synths, that would open up a whole new world for me. Just curious. High Rick, You can't burn a CD in MP3 format in Windows Media Player. But you can rip a music disc to MP3 in Windows Media Player. Marvin has an older boom box, you are correct, older CD players will not play rewritable CD's. But they can play CDR's. Those files will need to be converted to wave and then burned to CD in order for an older CD player to play it. My best regards. RE: CD Ripping Question
Yes, I think it can be done. First, you'll need to go into WMP and configure it not to automatically rip the whole CD. Next, when you insert a CD and bring up WMP, you can go into the CD ripping view and just select the tracks you want to rip. I'm doing this from memory, but I'm fairly certain it can be done. If you need more specific steps, maybe someone else who has used WMP more recently to RIP CD's can help. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 7:35 PM To: PC audio discussion list. High Tom, I have run in to the same problem that you're having over and over again. To tell you the truth, I don't really think that can be done. When your computer is ripping a CD, it is using Windows Media Player to do it. I am told that you can use Winamp to rip a CD one track at a time, but I've never tried it, so I don't know how true that really is. But if you really just want just one track off of that CD, you can use Switch to convert the .CDA to MP3 or some other audio file format. My best regards. Hi Christopher and list: Afraid I don't really know where to go in WMP (windows Media Player)..to make that magic happen! Re: If I ever buy a Creative product again it'll be to son
I have a possible solution. There is no guarantee this will work. It did work for me but I wasn't expecting it. It might not work for your card as it is newer and has different software. I hope it does have the basic tone controls like mine has or this won't do you any good at all. I think all the junk Creative installs gets in the way of basic Windows software. Especially the Creative Surround mixer. I don't know what program has the Entertainment mode but you don't want that either. It's a bit of work. First: You need to download the latest software from Creative. That is a job. You just want the basic software and driver package. The web site can automatically find your card but it might be better to choose manually the software to download. You have to drill down several levels with combo boxes. And, there are buttons that Jaws doesn't always see that you have to find with the Jaws cursor. Now: change your default sound card to the onboard sound device because you might not get sound for a while. Next. Make sure your screen reader is also using that default sound device. OK: Uninstall all the creative software. If your computer reboots, cancel the found new hardware wizard. Now install the new package you downloaded. Make sure to do a custom install. We want to make sure you do not install the Creative Surround Mixer or any of the stupid helper programs. You basically want the drivers and the Creative Console. Be sure to read everything. Both on the we page for the downloads and when installing the new software. Fweew! It tires me out reading those instructions. Maybe just rip the whole thing out. grin Bob. - Original Message - From: Dave McElroy WA6BEF d...@drakelroy.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 6:22 PM Subject: If I ever buy a Creative product again it'll be to son I have officially had enough. I had a sighted friend over today and we found that there is just no way I can adjust the properties of this sound card. There's this thing called 'entertainment mode and all the controls are there and just plain not accessible. I really can't ask for my money back from the manufacturer because the product is not defective, I just can't use it. So for me at least, Creative means crap. Re: Internet Radio receivers
Look what I just found at Fred's Head. First Internet Web Radio for the Blind http://www.fredshead.info/2009/12/first-internet-web-radio-for-blind.html?utm_source=feedburnerutm_medium=feedutm_campaign=Feed%3A+FredsHeadCompanion+%28Fred%27s+Head+from+APH%29utm_content=FeedBurner - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: PC Audio Discussion List Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 5:53 PM Subject: Internet Radio receivers Hi everyone! I'm wondering if anyone has successfully used one of these stand-alone Internet radio receivers? I'm thinking of one for a friend I know, he wants to listen to Interstate and world radio but I'm wondering whether one of these may be a better way to go rather than a full-blone computer. Okay, so I'm assuming that - even at the best of times - one of these radio sets would be an absolute pain in the behind to set up so just suppose I got someone with sight to set the radio up to my friend's favourite radio stations, would there perhaps be a way he could scroll between them, say using an up and down arrow, preset buttons or such like, anyone got any thoughts on this? I know what you're thinking, how would you know what the station was? Well most of what my friend would want to hear have call signs associated with them which are announced frequently, don't like one then move to the next.
