I'm using JFW 11 and WMP 11, and I can check and uncheck the files in the list view to be ripped. I just use the space bar. The files are checked by default. Yeh, use F4 to bring up the settings dialog and go over to the Remote CDDB tab and configure the remote CDDB database you want to use. I'm not sure what the default is, but I use the remote DB freedb.freedb.org, the protocol of CDDB and a port of 8880. You should be able to find it in the library view and delete it. Another thing you may want to consider is just deleting your WMP library and starting from scratch. a problem with keys going silent
Here's a weird one. After using winamp (version 5551), the keys associated with winamp go silent. Even after I close winamp, the keys still don't speak. I'm using window-eyes 711. I uninstalled then re-installed window-eyes. The problem went away then came back after using winamp. I even uninstalled and re-installed winamp. Anyone else ever had this problem? I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the winamp scripts? I don't want to have to uninstall window-eyes again. By the way, I called gw-micro. Hell again list: I've had this happen before..but figured it was because I had ripped the CDs in question in another format. I completely deleted those CDs..and it eventually ripped them to MP3s..like I wanted to! Hi Tom. What version of windows media player are you using? I'm using version 10 and this is really easy to achieve. I'm not positively sure of this as I haven't used Cdex in quite sometime! But it seems like it puts it in your "my music" folder! Well as it happens I have the disk that came with the card. I'll first check to see if I can select only those two items. We shall see. Thanks. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Robert Logue Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 11:40 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: If I ever buy a Creative product again it'll be to son I have a possible solution. There is no guarantee this will work. It did work for me but I wasn't expecting it. It might not work for your card as it is newer and has different software. I hope it does have the basic tone controls like mine has or this won't do you any good at all. I think all the junk Creative installs gets in the way of basic Windows software. Especially the Creative Surround mixer. I don't know what program has the Entertainment mode but you don't want that either. It's a bit of work. First: You need to download the latest software from Creative. That is a job. You just want the basic software and driver package. The web site can automatically find your card but it might be better to choose manually the software to download. You have to drill down several levels with combo boxes. And, there are buttons that Jaws doesn't always see that you have to find with the Jaws cursor. Now: change your default sound card to the onboard sound device because you might not get sound for a while. Next. Make sure your screen reader is also using that default sound device. OK: Uninstall all the creative software. If your computer reboots, cancel the found new hardware wizard. Now install the new package you downloaded. Make sure to do a custom install. We want to make sure you do not install the Creative Surround Mixer or any of the stupid helper programs. You basically want the drivers and the Creative Console. Be sure to read everything. Both on the we page for the downloads and when installing the new software. Fweew! It tires me out reading those instructions. Maybe just rip the whole thing out. Re: CD Ripping Question
I forget which exact menu it is in but it will say read from remote cddb. I thhink it is. You select all the tracks go into the menus with alt key. Left arrow a couple times. Look for the thing that says read from remote cddb and hit enter. It should name all the tracks. To be on the safe side I usually just select all tracks again and then hit f9 for rip to mp3 and you should be good and going. I don't have it installed on this laptop right now which is why I can't say which menu it is in exactly lol. Should not be hard to find though. -- From: "Tom Kaufman" Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 2009 10:26 AM To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Subject: Re: CD Ripping Question Hi Judy and list: Would have to go through there again..but in past times, when I looked in the Cdex menus, I saw nothing that indicated to me as to how I was to do this! RE: soft synths
Soft synths are fine, but quite fiddly. They generally come in the form of a plugin, which is used as part of midi sequencing software like sonar or cubase. That being the case, you generally get a picture of a synth with knobs and sliders which you click. Stay tuned though, because there are stand alone synths, and I have some links. My computer was stolen a few weeks back, so you'll have to bear with me whilst I find them. How accessible are the software synths? I'm using window-eyes 7.11. For a sighted user, the software synth recreates the front pannel of the hardware synthesizer on the screen. You can twiddle with the knobs and switches on the screen. So instead of paying thousands of dollars for an older synth, for maybe $200 you can get a software version of that synthesizer. I own a Minimoog model D synth and it sounds great, but if I could have access to some software synths, that would open up a whole new world for me. Just curious. RE: Surround plugins hardware etc
Bob, I have the SRS program installed, and agree that the headphones sound is enclosed, and lacks focus. There are some inaccessible controls where you can alter the space etc, but as yet I haven't experimented with them. What is really needed is something which goes between the sound card and the headphones, and has knobs on it so that you can alter things. I find it works best on the large speakers setting. The headphone setting sounds filtered and closed in to me. SRS has Windows software but the demo wasn't to Jaws friendly. I believe they also have hardware. A friend had a hardware unit some years ago. The quality could have been better. I previously had Stream FX for Winamp from Spatializer Audio but they appear to have gone out of business. All the other 3d audio plug-ins I've tried for WMP were not at all Jaws friendly. Re: problems recording from my soundcard
I am a nube but I see where there are 2 types of output these days ie... Analog and Digital. The analog is for things like tape recorders and speakers while digital is for things like CDs and DVDs and perhaps MP3 stuff I think. If you are set up to record from a digital input perhaps that would be the problem. You could have it set to data also and that would cause many problems i think. I have my own problems, can't find the equalizer, and so this might be of no help but I thought I would mention it in case you did not know it.
