Dan, there is also Zara Radio, that is a automation system. The free version
came with all basic features that you need, or there is also a pro version,
more complete and updated.

Hope this helps.

Hi sunshine!
Duckstream is a streaming program which you can use for streaming to either
a shoutcast or icecast server on. it's very very easy to use, and all you
need to do is just set the server location, the server port, the password
and so on. then, you can also choose which mp3 quality you'd like to use
while streaming. and I think you can also use ogg.
I have that program in a zip file somewhere, so, if anybody wants it some
time, please write me off list.

Accessible DJ sopftware?

2010-04-25 Thread Armando Maldonado
Hello, I was wondering if any of you is able to guide me in the following
direction. I was wondering if there was some sort of accessible dj sorftware
that I can use with Jaws 11 and windows 7 ultimate? I'm currently using
winamp, but the issue I'm having is that when I try cuing upa file, there's
no option that allows me to cue up songs within winamp. When I was using xp
home with windows media player 10, I had that option available to me. Any
suggestions or ideas are very much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Selecting Songs In ITunes

2010-04-25 Thread Kevin Lloyd
You can select a set of contiguous tracks in the same way as you would in
windows explorer by using shift with up or down arrows. Non-contiguous
selection is more problemmatic and I haven't managed to do this using Jaws
11 and Itunes 8.1. May be easier with later versions of Itunes or the
JTunes scripts but haven't really felt the need to upgrade or pay the
additional cost for the scripts.

How does one go about selecting songs in ITunes? I haven't been able to
figure out how to select a group of continuous songs i.e.. one after
another, or non-continuous songs. The help file isn't clear, and there
doesn't seem to be any type of help for JFW 11 and ITunes in the popular
applications section. It would be nice to be able to make my selections
at

once, instead of having to go a song at a time.

Blessings,

Brian

bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread Joe
Here's an interesting question. I've experimented with a lot of different bit
rates and sample rates doing voice recordings but still don't know what
combination of the two give good enough quality for speech. I know you need
higher rates for music, at least 128KBPS. I'm only talking about voice
recordings using a mic at this point. What combination of bit and sample rate
will take the least space and give me fair quality speech audio. What should be
higher. The bit rate, or the sample rate. I'm talking about MP 3 files. I'd
like to get a better understanding of this. Thanks in advance. Joe.

Re: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread brandon armstrong
if you want to make decent recordings, your sample rate should be 44.1 for cd
quality and your bit rate or the rate that data is processed per second should
be at 128 kbps or killabites per second.
that's the quality of most cd recordings.

Hi,

I have no idea where you pulled this info, but a cd is not 128kbps. that's
the min you'd want to use, but I'd suggest 192kbps. If you want lossless
i.e. cd sounding recordings, use flac.

Yes, and I have a degree in radio television film and 192 is the correct

Hi,

for speech I would suggest 44.1 and 64 kbps. If it is a performance, sound
seeing tour, or historical event I would consider either 96 or 128 for
speech only. This does not apply to the earlier posts on music and cd
quality.

Hi,

I have no idea where you pulled this info, but a cd is not 128kbps. that's
the min you'd want to use, but I'd suggest 192kbps. If you want lossless
i.e. cd sounding recordings, use flac.

RE: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

Some out there will disagree with me, but that's all right. I think that
for recording just speech, CD quality is overkill. Personally I would use
64 KBPS with 44.1 Khz sampling, in mono. I don't think you'd notice much of
an improvement with higher bit rates, and in fact you might be able to go
even lower, to 32 kbps, but you might notice some artifacts creep into the
picture.

As I said, this is for just speech recording. Music is a completely
different animal. I personally use 128 kbps mp3 files at 44k sampling. I
know it's not CD quality, but I personally like my files at a constant
value, and this sounds good enough for me.

Have a good day, and don't work too hard.

That's nice, but it still does not change the fact that a 128k mp3 is not cd

Re: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread Richard Claypool
corective is subjective. There are people who can hear the difference
between 320k mp3 and flac. I can not, but they can.

If you're ripping a cd, and want a perfect archive without the size of wav
files, go flac. If you don't care about quality loss, then pick which
flavor of mp3 encoding sounds best to you, and use it. If 128k is good
enough for you, go for it.

We have newer and tighter methods of encoding, but mp3 is still bmoc.

Re: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread Kelly Pierce
For audio books on CD I obtain from the public library and rip to
listen on my MP3 player, I use a 44.100 sampling rate and 96k bitrate.
I have found that I lose some of the emotion and distinctness of the
reader at 64k. At that lower bitrate, the recording sounds flat.
Broadcast radio standards do call for 128k bit rates. For personal
listening of voice recordings, 96k is a good compromise for me between
broadcast quality and the 64k used in many online archives. I’m
especially keen to the trade offs as I am still using an original
Bookport with a 512 megabyte card.

Re: Selecting Songs In ITunes

2010-04-25 Thread Rob Tabor

Good evening, list.
Has anyone tried using the control key with the up and down arrow keys to
select non-contiguous music or other audio files? In Windows Explorer you
hit the space bar to select the item from the list box while holding down
the control key. Your selected items can be verified in JAWS by pressing
jawskey+ctrl+shift+down arrow. I'll leave it to others to describe how
verifying selected items is done in WindowEyes, NVDA, and System Access, but
I suspect this is done in the ways that are customary for these screen
readers.

Hope this helps

You can select a set of contiguous tracks in the same way as you would in
windows explorer by using shift with up or down arrows. Non-contiguous
selection is more problemmatic and I haven't managed to do this using Jaws
11 and Itunes 8.1. May be easier with later versions of Itunes or the
JTunes scripts but haven't really felt the need to upgrade or pay the
additional cost for the scripts.

figure out how to select a group of continuous songs i.e.. one after
another, or non-continuous songs. The help file isn't clear, and there
doesn't seem to be any type of help for JFW 11 and ITunes in the popular
applications section. It would be nice to be able to make my selections
at

once, instead of having to go a song at a time.

Blessings,

Brian

Re: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-25 Thread Rob Tabor

Hello.
I run my audio at 44.1 KHz, but what bit rate would you all advise to
produce CD quality for a voice and music mix, such as a voiceover promo?

Hi,

for speech I would suggest 44.1 and 64 kbps.

If you want lossless
i.e. cd sounding recordings, use flac.

if you want to make decent recordings, your sample rate should be 44.1
for

cd quality and your bit rate or the rate that data is processed per
second

should be at 128 kbps or killabites per second.
that's the quality of most cd recordings.

Good evening.
I use Lame MP3 encoder which seems to capture good fidelity. Is there an MP3
codec that produces higher audio fidelity?

One thing I'll add to this. if it's speach, go 64k mono, not stereo.
when you take a file, and make it stereo, you have to put twice as much
data into the same size file, guess what gets crunched? that's right,
quality. for a drastic sample of this effect, ri9p a file at 24k mono,
and then at 24k stereo.

Pet pieve, people who rip books at 64k stereo. Plus, not all encoders are
equil.

You can also use win amps playlist editor to add and work with tracks.
use l to add them and alt arrow to move the tracks up or down.

that I can use with Jaws 11 and windows 7 ultimate? I'm currently using

there's
no option that allows me to cue up songs within winamp. When I was

Any
