Rotel DAC
Hi! Bought one of these to compliment the Rotel Integrated Amp and Polk Bookshelf Audio Speakers, all should be here early next week so I'll let you know how I get on. For those who are wondering, DAC is Digital Analogue converter so to put it bluntly, you use a DAC to convert digital audio to analogue to feed into your amplifier or whatever. The Rotel version found at http://www.encelstereo.com.au/collections/rotel/products/rotel-rdd-06-dac-black has a heap of facilities to recommend it including 6 digital inputs, 3 optical and 3 coaxial and a USB input just right for direct digital connection to your Windows or Mac machine. Just to recap, I decided to go down the path of integrated amp, speakers and DAC given the appalling cheapness of the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks we've talked about, yep they sound pretty nice but a damn pain in the bum if cables should break etc as they can't be replaced unless taken to a repairer, assuming he'll bother with them. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Gary, Can you change the save location to somewhere like My Documents or Desktop? These folders have read/write permissions by default in Windows, whereas the Audacity folder might not. RE: Program for general recording on the PC needed.
Good morning Dave and list members, An external synth is certainly a workable solution to your recording dilemma. However, if you go that route I would advise you to use your sound card to run JAWS and use the external synth for other audio for the simple reason that if you lose speech it will be much easier to rule out hardware failure as a cause. For example, if you hear Windows system warning sounds you will be able to rule out hardware failure if you have JAWS configured to run on the system's internal soundcard. Conversely, it will be much harder to rule out hardware failure if JAWS is configured to run on the plugin speech box. It's just a thought to ponder and I hope it helps. In short, I want to record stuff I hear on my PC. The problem I'm having is that the program I currently use, Total Recorder, is unable to record the audio I want without also recording the screen reader, Jaws. In XP, Total Recorder could separate the audio streams and keep Jaws out of the recording, but it can't do it in Windows 7 or 8. Is there another program I can use that will do this? I could use 2 sound cards, 1 for JAWS, 1 for stuff I want to record, but I'm using a laptop. So I'd have to take the computer, external sound card, and headphones or speakers everywhere I go, which is quite annoying. Any help is greatly appreciated.
