Rotel DAC

2013-07-20 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Bought one of these to compliment the Rotel Integrated Amp and Polk Bookshelf
Audio Speakers, all should be here early next week so I'll let you know how I
get on.

For those who are wondering, DAC is Digital Analogue converter so to put it
bluntly, you use a DAC to convert digital audio to analogue to feed into your
amplifier or whatever.

The Rotel version found at
http://www.encelstereo.com.au/collections/rotel/products/rotel-rdd-06-dac-black
has a heap of facilities to recommend it including 6 digital inputs, 3 optical
and 3 coaxial and a USB input just right for direct digital connection to your
Windows or Mac machine.

Just to recap, I decided to go down the path of integrated amp, speakers and
DAC given the appalling cheapness of the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks we've
talked about, yep they sound pretty nice but a damn pain in the bum if cables
should break etc as they can't be replaced unless taken to a repairer, assuming
he'll bother with them.

Gary,

Can you change the save location to somewhere like My Documents or Desktop?
These folders have read/write permissions by default in Windows, whereas the
Audacity folder might not.

Here is a Microsoft article on changing folder permissions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2623670/en-us#method11

When I record with Audacity I save to a folder I've created on the desktop and
there are no problems with permissions.

2013-07-20 Thread Rob Tabor
Good morning Dave and list members,

An external synth is certainly a workable solution to your recording
dilemma. However, if you go that route I would advise you to use your sound
card to run JAWS and use the external synth for other audio for the simple
reason that if you lose speech it will be much easier to rule out hardware
failure as a cause. For example, if you hear Windows system warning sounds
you will be able to rule out hardware failure if you have JAWS configured to
run on the system's internal soundcard. Conversely, it will be much harder
to rule out hardware failure if JAWS is configured to run on the plugin
speech box. It's just a thought to ponder and I hope it helps.

downloading and having to play tracks, etc. Someone on one of these lists
pointed out that check box to me and now it works much better.

I haven't downloaded anything for a while, but the last time I purchased
some tracks for my daughter a year ago, having the check box to permit
downloads made it much easier to get the tracks.

For downloading material from the cloudplayer, have you gone into your
Amazon account to Your MP3 Settings and checked the control to download
tracks from the cloudplayer? It makes a huge difference in the use of the
cloudplayer.

So let me just make sure this will do what I want. Using VAC, you're able to
record any audio on your PC without getting the screen reader in the
recording, and without using an external sound card?

whereas the Audacity folder might not.

Here is a Microsoft article on changing folder permissions:

This is called background recording.

Hi Dave,
The only way around this is to get a trippletalk external synth.
Another way is to get the virtual cable. Don't ask me anything about
virtual cables , I haven't got one yet.
I only know it's about $50.
I think it might do the trick.

Access isn't a problem with Total Recorder. In fact, it's one of the
easiest, most fully-featured programs. It just can not record in
Win 7 or 8
without getting the screen reader in the mix. Can Audacity? It
seems to me,
there should be some way to do in 7 or 8 something that was so easy
in XP.

hi,
little misser about jaws.
you got to press jaws key + space then s, for speech on / off.

Why not use the fully accessible audacity, which is an amazing tool
for recording and editing audio.
Best regards
Brian

Hi, I suggest you update total recorder to the latest version, then
you choose software recording and you just switch off jaws speech
buy pressing insert plus space (before recording) and the same
keystroak again to put speech back on, if you have jaws ten or older,
you would need to use insert plus v, press the end key and then
spacebar to turn speech off and then enter.

stuff I want to record, but I'm using a laptop. So I'd have to
take the

computer, external sound card, and headphones or speakers
everywhere I go,
which is quite annoying. Any help is greatly appreciated.
