You can use Switch to extract audio from video files which some on the list may find extremely useful. Hi Tom, uninstall Winamp, and make sure you delete the Winamp directory in the program files on your C drive. After looking around, I finally found where to switch from Direct Sound to wave output (and vise versa) no soap! If I switch to Wave output (which actually did resolve the problem) but then if I turn Winamp down, I turn everything down, which I don't want! So I had to switch back over to direct sound! As for unloading Jaws as you suggested, again no soap! When Jaws is unloaded, there seems to be no way to use the arrow keys or anything else! Since Winamp is my default player, I've not tried Windows Media; I'm not even sure that you can fast-forward through a file with Windows Media anymore (I do know that you cannot go back) I also know that you cannot go directly to a certain spot in a file with Windows Media like you can with Winamp; these are reasons why I prefer Winamp over what few audio MP3 players I have used! Well, I cannot highly recommend the program listed in the subject enough! Here was my scenario. I wanted to watch a DVD, Toy Story 3, on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop. The DVD has audio description. Anyway, I tried playing it with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, a DVD and general media player that comes with the Combined Community Codec pack. Well I couldn't get as far as the menu could I! Plus, the menu system of the application completely disappeared! So next I tried VLC Media Player. This was slightly better in that I could get at least the first chapter of the DVD played. But when it moved onto the next chapter it repeated the first one! So finally, I tried to play it with DVD Audio Extractor. It worked a treat! The entire DVD played fine with absolutely no problems! So my recommendation for a fully accessible, easy to use DVD player, which also happens to extract audio, is DVD Audio Extractor, www.castudio.org. Hi Hamit, the program that I sent you, will rip the movie off the DVD in AVI, MP4, and MP3, and many other formats. If you want to get to the DVD, when you open the program, press alt D, then press OK, but make sure you have the DVD in the computer when you do it. It will also convert files after you ripped the DVD into the format that you chose, same as I mention above. Hi Christopher, I've had Soundtaxi for years, and when audible changed the manager, Soundtaxi was no longer able to convert books from audible .com - Original Message - From: Christopher Chaltain chalt...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 27, 2012 11:11 PM Subject: Re: audible According to the web page http://www.soundtaxi.org/soundtaxi_audio_conversion_Audible.php this is supported. I'm not saying it doesn't violate your terms of condition with Audible, but at least according to the Sound Taxi web site, this is technically possible. I also noticed that Quicktime is a prerequisite for Sound Taxi, so this also lends some credibility to that statement. To test it, you can download Sound Taxi for free and use it in trial mode. It's fully functional, but it'll only convert a few minutes of audio. This is enough to see if it's going to work or not. The Platinum version costs $20, but I'd suggest upgrading to the pro version for $27. It's only $7 more, and the performance makes it worth the price if you're going to be using Sound Taxi to convert more than just a handful of files. Hi. You can't convert .RAR files to MP3. .RAR files are a kind of digital envelope. It is a compression tool for multiple file types. If you have say 100 files you want to send to a friend, some might be WAVE, some mp3, others might be .AVI or Flac etc. The point is you can compress all these files into one zipped file and in the process it compresses the files to a smaller over all size making it easier and more convenient to upload. To compress and then extract the files you need a programme called either .zip or 7zip or winrar. Windows XP has a built in basic compression tool as does windows 7. Giannakopoulos petrakigianos-gia...@yahoo.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 3:29 PM Subject: more on .avi to data DVD subject Let us know if that worked for you by using Nero to make a data DVD from those .avi files you have and then using your home DVD player to play them back. I sure didn't know this was possible to make them play on home DVD player. Usually you have to convert the .avi files to DVD using a converter program. Why are you using a DVD RW disc? You should only use a DVD -R or +R blank disc. Most players now support both disc types but check your manual to be sure of this. If you have Replay AV 8 latest version you get Replay Converter application which will do the .avi conversion to DVD NTSC (USA, Canada and some other countries). I know the program is accessible because I use it and am a beta tester for them. I use JAWS 10. These .avi files how did you obtain them? From a camera? You can also do DVD PAL format disc for playback in most other countries with Replay Converter. Applian makes Replay AV which comes bundled with Replay Converter. They have 30 day money back guarantee if it doesn't work for you the video conversions to DVD disc. Contact Leslie Bee at les...@applian.com Website http://www.applian.com I have done .avi file conversions to DVD disc myself in the past. Re: ripping audio from dvd's: which package is better
Hi Dean, DVD Audio Extractor works great, but I don't know if it will do more than replay, because I've never used it. - Original Message - From: dean martineau dea...@earthlink.net To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2009 9:41 AM Subject: ripping audio from dvd's: which package is better I will sometimes want to take audio from dvd's and convert it to mp3. I imagine most of the dvd's whose content will interest me will be unprotected, but maybe I'll want to save the audio from some movie sometime. I already have Replay Converter, which does some of this, but only with unprotected dvd's. Dvd Audio Extractor is easy to use, and I could buy it if need be. But I'd like to know if it will convert more dvd's than Replay Converter will, or if the two have pretty similar capability. Thanks.
