Brian. The messages Tim has written on this subject are correct and based on actual facts. I only had suggested AnyDVD in conjunction with DVD Shrink because of newer DVD releases. Eventually like Tim has stated programs even like AnyDVD will not work. I too have mainly use DVD Shrink but newer and newer movies are not able to get decrypted by DVD Shrink. I can definitely understand why this program has not been updated since 2004. If all you will be copying are older movies, then go for it, keep using DVD Shrink. Just don't dep[end on it with newer movies. As time passes fewer and fewer will work. Hi Kevin. In all honesty you are off using a combination of AnyDVD to decrypt the DVDs and DVD Shrink to shrink down the DVDs and later burn them to 4.7 DVD blank media unless you have DVD DL media in which case simply using AnyDVD along with any DVD copying software like Nero will do the trick. Because if DVD Shrink is not updated it will not be able to decrypt some of the newer DVDs. That is the only reason why DVD Shrink will lose popularity if it is not kept up to date by the author. I'm not talking about features here. I'm talking about decrypting newer DVD media which comes out like some of 2006 release movies. Try the movie Stealth which was released in 2005. Goldwave markers help
Hi. I have GoldWave 5.12 and am wondering how to move using the keyboard commands for the markers. Let's say for example I have part of a sound selected at start: 1:00.00 and finish: 1:05.00 making it a 5 second selection. Now let's say that I want to slide the start marker slightly to the right using shift-right-arrow. If I do that the marker either does not move or it moves all the way over to the finish marker. So, what I'm asking is how do I tell GoldWave to only move the marker by a small amount of space, let's say 1 tenth of a second or even 1 one-hundreth of a second. I have a feeling this has to do with the zoom level but I cannot really find the answer I need. The same thing happens to me if I try to move the finish marker to the left using control-shift-left-arrow. It moves way too much and does not allow for small fine-tuned editing. Re: User friendly DVD payer
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 As mentioned before that depends on the dvd itself. I'll give a perfect example of two different tv series which have a completely different structure. First is Friends. The way all ten seasons are set up is just the way you would like. You start the dvd, press play once and the first episode starts. If you press the forward button you go to the next episode, and so on and so forth. The reason this works this way is because what they did is make all six episodes on each dvd one large movie for simple terms. Each episode then is basically like a chapter in that movie. What they then did is take each separate episode and put it on the dvd as well a second time as individual chapters so in essence, each episode is on there twice. One as part of all six episodes together and two as separate episodes. I believe the reason they did this was so that one could either continuously play all episodes back to back using the first method or so one could play one episode at a time using the second method. I still have not figured out how to use the second method but I have not really tried as using the first method has worked well for me. Now onto the second example of tv dvd structure. I use Star Trek Deep Space Nine series for this. When you start the dvd you are presented with what is called the main menu for simple terms. This main menu just has four options. Each option is an episode name as there are usually four episodes per dvd. With most newer dvd players simply pressing the number on the keypad and then pressing menu or play will activate that menu item. So if I wanted to watch episode 3 on the dvd I'd press the number 3 on the keypad and then play. This then loads episode 3 and takes me to the episode menu. This one is similar to the first menu one sees on a regular movie dvd. It has play, language, setup, scene selections, etc, and lastly, return to main menu. On most Star Trek dvds this is option 4 so to return to the main menu showing the four episodes I press 4 on the keypad and then play. While in this episode menu I can press 1 and then play or just play by itself and the episode starts playing. While watching this episode it has chapters which can be moved to by pressing the forward button, I can also use the backward button to go to previous chapters within this episode only. I hope all this makes sense. joanne said the following on Wed, Jan 04, 2006 at 07:24:39AM -0500: > Raul and others: what Terri and I are both wanting is a DVD player that > would be easy to use as far as going between episodes on, say, a TV series > DVD or one like this with different chapters or episodes. Re: User friendly DVD payer
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Terri. I personally like the Sony dvd players. On most newer models the play button has a dot on it so you can easily find it. I have two models, one for the bedroom which plays one dvd and one in the living room which plays up to five. Both of them have the same remote and are very easy to use. The main three buttons, play, pause and stop are located next to each other on the front and are easy to find. Above or to the left of those depending on the model are the back and forward buttons which are long, thin shaped ones. Definitely different feeling than the first three I mentioned. The remote is needed to easily navigate things like switching between audio or language tracks, choosing a scene to quickly go to or choosing a particular episode in the case of a tv series dvd. The single dvd player goes for around $50 while the five dvd changer goes for around $70 to $100 depending on where you buy it. Both these models I have will play dvd, dvd+r, dvd-r, dvd+rw, dvd-rw, cd-r, cd-rw, audio cd, vcd, and mp3 cd. So as you can tell they will play just about any format disc. Re: nero and copying dvds disk-to-disk or .iso imaging
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Tyler. I know you have received some answers but I'll chime in here in case I can add to any of the information given. As mentioned you can easily use DVD Shrink to read the dvds as well as decrypt them which is a must for making back up copies. Due to the encryption and the size of most dvds you cannot simply use dvd-copy in Nero to copy a dvd movie. By using DVD Shrink you can remove the encryption and you can shrink it down however some newer dvd movies like Stealth starring Jessica Beel and Jamie Fox will not decrypt even with DVD Shrink. Unless they update DVD Shrink what you may have to do is purchase any-dvd which is a driver running in the background. I believe that sells for $30 or $40. With this running any dvd placed in your system will be decrypted so DVD Shrink can read it and you can do your backup. I don't remember off hand which site sells Any-DVD but you can get it from the list archives or do a google search for it. Good luck. Re: OGG to MP3?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Kevin and others; Goldwave is probably the best choice for this. Once you have gw installed you can press alt-f for file and down arrow to batch. Here you can pick from several files at a time or a whole directory including sub directories if you want. Tab to the save as format and choose your format. I'm assuming you will be converting ogg to mp3 like the subject says, so since you picked all your ogg files to convert you now pick the mp3 from the list to save to. The next tab is so you can pick the quality of the mp3 file. I believe the default is 44.1 khz 128 kbps stereo quality. A note to remember is when converting from one format to another the file must be decompressed and recompressed. This results in some quality loss. If your ogg files are at q3 which is on average 112 kbps then I recommend saving them in mp3 form at a higher rate to try and lose as little quality as possible. In this example you would want to save as 128 kbps mp3. Even though the mp3 bitrate is highter than the ogg bitrate it does not mean you are really getting 128 kbps because it initially was at 112 kbps. Once you pick the options you may want to control-tab and see the other options. The second tab control is for adding effects which I don't think you want to do with a simple file conversion. The third tab control is the folder to save your work in. By default it will save it in the same folder as the original files. You can choose another folder from here. The fourth and last tab control is the info tab. Here you can either leave all tag data the same or you can set it to something specific. Once you choose everything you want to do you tab to the begin button and press space. Leave your computer alone for a bit while it does it and bingo. Re: Backing up a DVD
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Best way is to use a backup program like dvd shrink. Only thing with that is if you back the whole dvd you stand a chance of losing quality because it has to compress everything. DVD Shrink allows you to choose to backup just the movie and you can pick which audio streams. This in a way is good for blind people because by getting rid of the menus you can play your dvd movie from the backup and not worry about complex menus in case they are complex in any case. taking live telephone calls on Internet radio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi there; I'm having trouble in being able to take live calls when Internet radio broadcasting. I've tried the following in order with no success. I'm thinking in order to do this I will have to buy a mixer. If that is the only way then I'll do it but I was trying this first. 1. Telephone microphone box which gets connected between the phone wall jack and the base of your telephone. The mic cord when connecting to the pc's sound card emmits a lound hum interference noise. 2. Second telephone recording unit. This one gets connected between the base of the phone and the handset. Again, when connecting the mic cable to the pc's sound card I get a humming noise. The advantage of using the first type of box is that you can use a cordless phone since the box is connecting between the wall and the base whereas the second box goes between the handset and the base, so for this one you have to use a corded phone. The third way I tried is by taking a tape recorder and plugging an audio cable from it's headphone jack into the line-in of the pc and then plugging the telephone microphone cord into the mic jack of the tape recorder. Again I got the hum when the cable went from the tape recorder to the pc. If I removed that cable then I could successfully record phone calls onto the tape recorder just the way the telephone microphone is meant to be used. So, big question, is there a special telephone microphone designed for pcs or do I have to use a mixer? What methods can I perhaps try which I have not yet. - -- If you lived today as if it were your last, you'd buy up a box of rockets and fire them all off, wouldn't you? -- Garrison Keillor - -- Raul A. nero, burning with playlists problem
Hi. I am using Nero 6.6 under xp-sp2 and came across a problem and I'm not sure how to fix this. Usually if I want to burn a cd from ogg or mp3 files on my hard drive I start the new cd bit. Choose the settings for the audio cd, then open explorer, go to the folder which contains the files I want and arrow to the playlist. I copy it with control-c and then alt-tab back into Nero and paste the playlist in. the playlists are usually named something like _playlist.m3u. Most of the time the playlist is read by Nero and the tracks from the playlist are added in the correct order and then I can go right ahead and burn the cd. The problem is that sometimes I get an error from Nero saying that the wma files are protected and cannot be burned to cd. However when this has happened it's been with only mp3 or ogg files. I don't have windows media files on my system and none of my mp3 or ogg files are protected. Any ideas? -- -- Raul A. Re: MP3 players
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Terri. The term accessible is relative because to some accessible means the unit talks, to others it means that the unit is usable by a blind person. So keeping that in mind I will tell you this. I personally have an iriver ihp120 which is a 20 gb hard drive player supporting mp3,wav,wma,ogg formats. Accessible? Well, to me it's very accessible but it does not talk. The reason it's accessible for me is because the layout of how to use it is very easy. You don't need any special software to transfer files to and from the unit. If your music is organized into folders and you transfer it that way it will be there for you in that order in the player. You can move forward by file, or by folder. Each time you press the forward or backward button the unit beeps to let you know the action took. The unit also has a built-in microphone for real time recording which will record in wave or mp3 on the fly. You can change the recording source to line-in as well to record things from another source. The options to set those last features would need some sighted assistance unless you memorized the menu order but i'ts not too bad. The unit also has an it's-tuner and wired remote for easy operation. It retails for around $350.00 to $400.00 but sometimes you can find a good deal on amazon or ebay. The manual is in pdf and is very easy to read. If you want to know feel free to ask. I'm definitely 100% satisfied with my Iriver player. - -- Raul A. Re: a users guide needed
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi. Go to www.iriver.com and choose your country then choose support or do a search in their site for the model. I have the 120 model and have the manual in pdf format from them. I imagine the 120 and 140 are not very different except the hard drive size. russell Bourgoin said the following on Wed, Jun 23, 2004 at 01:19:01AM -0400: > Hi listers, Rusty here, > > I recently purchased the iRiver iHP 140 player. Re: what is the dsp stacker, and do I need it to shoutcast?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 The dsp stacker from Spacial Audio works great with Window-Eyes, not sure about jfw though. With Window-eyes I had to label the add remove move up/down graphics though. I imagine you would need to do something similar in jfw. - -- Raul A.
