Goldwave Question

2012-11-24 Thread Sharon Lash
Thanks to all who replied to my query. There was a power outage which lasted
from Wednesday evening till Friday evening. Anyhow, the problem still exists
because whatever the default is, being mono or stereo, I have the same problem.
I think it's a Goldwave glitch. That is when I record something in mono, it
will save automatically in stereo. I have to go to atributes and change the bit
rate myself. Now, same thing. When I changed the default to mono in the options
section, when I record instereo and then save, the recording saves in mono. I
hope this makes sense. I don't think this can be fixed. Thanks to all once
again.

Sharon,

Your original problem was, that you had to manually fix the saving options
for mono files.

I sent you the procedure for making the default save option for file
saving mono.

That wwas what you wanted, or have I missed something.

Just revert the save options for stereo when you want to do a run of
stereo recordings.

I don't see a goldwave glitch at all, seems to work in this area exactly
as you would expect.

Thanks.

Greetings,

I will open GW and check what happens for me, I assume you are using GW
V5.67?

I have created a mono file 24,000hertz.

I am now going to close it which being untitled gives the option to change
name Etc.

Same thing happens to me, maybe it is a bug in GW? I cannot remember if
this happened in V5.58, may install and try.

Sharon,

When you start a new file, the first choice which has focus is a pair of
radio buttons. Stereo or mono.

Are you saying that when you select Mono it records in stereo?

This is what happens. I select new file. I select mono. I record in mono.
When I try to save what I recorded, I have to change the setting to mono,

Um! did you **really** mean the above?

Also, Joe is wrong saying it is a pair of radio buttons, I have GW V5.67
open here and it is a combo-box. If you need the recording in mono,
cursor

up to the mono choice.

Tab then to the next which is an edit-combo box and it should show the
sampling rate you've previously used, either amend by typing in the value
required, or cursor to the setting, remember when you start, it will lose
the one you already had and put you at the top, the lowest, available.

You can then tab to the length of file required, I have this set to one
second but I assume you are using unbounded so this is not relevant.

Next control is the presets, mine shows nothing but there are a good many
from which to choose, I've never messed around with these, preferring to
set

what I wish when.

Finally, the ok button, job completed.

a problem with keys going silent

2009-12-02 Thread Sharon Lash
Here's a weird one. After using winamp (version 5551), the keys associated with
winamp
go silent. Even after I close winamp, the keys still don't speak. I'm using
window-eyes

came
back after using winamp. I even uninstalled and re-installed winamp. Anyone else
ever had this problem? I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the winamp
scripts? I don't want to have to uninstall window-eyes again. By the
way, I called gw-micro. They don't have an answer. either

The thing worked okay although I don't really fiddle with it much.
What I did run into to my great disgust was not being able to get to
my radio station of choice. I called their customer service line and
vented a bit. It seems they were unprepared for the volume of folks
clicking on the Mets v. Reds game on WFAN. The media player would pop
up and there would be no place for email address and password. I
selected the Spanish network and it did come through and then played
the game en Espanol. Then the Reds radio network also came in fine.
So I tried WFAN again and nothing! I asked the poor chap on the
telephone How can you not be prepared for Opening Day?! I told him
it was not his fault, but that the upper managers needed a whack on
the head for this outrage. I am considering a letter to the Clown
Prince of Baseball, Bud Selig. Then again what will he do?

Hi.

I was just on the phone with someone from MLB.com. The person was very
helpful. As I write this, I'm listening to the White Sox and Royals.
Here's what to do to get it to work. It is a bit twisted, and I do hope
the

login button is labeled on the site soon, but this method worked for me.

Go to

http://mlb.com

Look for the word log on the page. You'll get to the login link.

Enter your user name and password and hit the submit button.

Now you'll be logged into the site.

Get to where you enter a URL, and enter

http://mlb.com/mediacenter

This will bring up the table of available games. Choose the one you want,
and enjoy it.

I know you should be able to look for the word audio on the page and click
on that link. It took me to the wrong page when I did this, so I tried
the

above, and it worked for me.

Hope this is useful.

Changing Speed without Losing Compression

2007-04-27 Thread Sharon Lash
I want to know if this is possible? I have a file both in ogg and mp3
formats. Unfortunately, the speed is a little too fast. I can't stand it; I
want to fix it. I do have goldwave; however, I know I'll mess up the sound
because of the conversion. I don't know much about ogg file conversion.
Actually, I was hoping I could change the speed on one of the files without
changing the compression. Is this possible with any particular program? If
so, please elaborate. Thanks very much.

First of all, I'm using winamp. I have downloaded some files in mp3 format

possible sound card problem?

2006-08-02 Thread Sharon Lash
I hope not. I just installed a new sound blaster audigy card. I recorded
something with goldwave the other day; everything was fine. Now today I
checked and all my settings were changed back to where they were originally
and I don't get any sound at all when attempting to record. When I go to
line-in in volume, and check the mute, whether it's checked or unchecked, I
don't hear anything. I have the computer's in and out plugs going into a
receiver. When the receiver is on monitor, I usually hear input. When
monitor is off, I usually hear output. I don't hear input anymore which
means that nothing is being recorded. Any ideas? And for the life of me, I
don't understand why my settings changed in the first place.

Working with audio Players

2006-05-13 Thread Sharon Hooley
Hi!

I wish I knew of a good, one-stop resource for finding out all about how
multimedia players/recorders and files, libraries, skins, playlists and
anything else work. I'm not very familiar with these things. Some time ago
I downloaded a file with the extension ASX. It was indicated that this is
a Windows Media Player file. Today I set up Windows Media Player 10, then
went to the folder where I stored the file and opened it. Instead of
playing directly, I was taken online and then it started playing. Since I
have dial-up connection, it would play, then break, then play again. I know
that dial-up connection is not a good option for listening to things online.
Eventually I got a message saying that Windows Media Player could not play
the file. I can understand that, if the file is no longer stored in the
place where I got it. It's the 911 call that someone made while on a heroic
rescue of a man and his daughter, from Readers Digest and HappyNews.com, so
I can see that this would be temporary. But why can't I play the file
off-line that I downloaded?

I believe this is a nice feature of windows if you are paranoid like me
and want windows to ask permission to access anything, instead of just
going and doing it. Just arrow thru the choices each time it comes up.
If you turn it off, I do not know how to turn it back on. I think that's

Free Media Players/Recorders

2006-04-19 Thread Sharon Hooley
Hi!

I have some questions:

Is there an accessible, free media player/recorder that can use all sound
and video file formats and can burn CD's? If so, which one do you think is
best and easiest to use? I do not want to use RealPlayer, as it might send
out spyware.

Sometimes, when I install software, I am given the option to install a
certain media player. Why do they do that, and is that necessary, or can I
use my chosen media player?

How do I make my chosen media player recognize file types that it doesn't
play?

I would appreciate all input.

thanks!

between them, and why people use different types rather than using one
standard format for everything? I would appreciate your input.

Hi Sharon.

It's possible that either the CD's you've ripped lately have surface issues
such as finger prints or dirt and this is causing jitter during the rip.
It's also possible that it's your CD-ROM. If you have a second drive may be
worth ripping from there and comparing.

saving shows from coasttocoast

2004-10-17 Thread Sharon Hamm
Hello. I'm trying to save one of the classic coasttocoast shows. It doesn't
have mp3 links to it. It just has the full show in windows media player or
real player. I don't know how to save this show for listening to later.
They have the free streamlink this weekend. We got other shows but not the
classics that they have up there. They say that you can download those also.

Try going into the context menu and arrow down to save target and hit
enter.
I have saved a couple Mosen Explosions like that and they work just fine.

I'mASpeaker, How Many Models?

2004-10-09 Thread Sharon Lash
I just bought the TDK I'mASpeaker. I thought the sound would be in stereo.
It seems the jack on the speaker turns the sound from a portable CD player
from stereo to mono. The manual doesn't say specifically if it is stereo or
mono. Although it has a good loud sound, I am disappointed that it isn't
actually a stereo device. Any comments or suggestions as to another model
or something?

Re: accessible Archos mp3 recorders

2004-08-15 Thread Sharon Hamm
I had trouble getting my archos to work with the software. I never could get
it to work but I know others have. Now my archos won't play a track when I
turn it on. It used to do that right away. I don't know what is wrong with
it or how to fix it. Anyone have any suggestions.

CDEX has options for extraction that should take care of clicks at the
beginning and end of tracks. They are: Start and end offset (sectors).
Look under the CD drive tab of Cdex configuration. You might also want to
change the spinup speed.

Hello. Do you have to have a special radio hooked to the computer to receive xm on the
computer. Also, how do you record the programs on to the hard drive?

I totally agree. Yes, the Delphi Skifi
keypad is arranged like that of a
touchtone phone so anyone can use the
remote. It's easy to set presets and
find your XM personality and I know I've
found mine! The PCR version is great.
Encode favorite XM programs right onto
my hard drive. Don't need tapes
anymore. Handy for Dr. Demento and
oldtime radio.

Needd I say more?

I have a sony xm receiver which is
very accessible. I have a remote with
it
like a phone pad with additional
buttons. We have one in the car and one
in
the house. I also have the pc version
attached to my computer and as a
person using both JFW and Window Eyes,
I can say that JFW needed scripts Win
Eyes handles it straight out of the
box. The titles are abbreviated
because, according to my husband Gary,
that is how they appear on the xm
 screen itself. Xm is wonderful!

I am using the receiver XM puts out.
Of
 course, the home receiver isnot
accessible, but tuning around on it
is
about as easy as tuning around on a
 regular radio tuner.

I have a second receiver which is
connected to my computer and it is
more
 accessible in that Window-Eyes will
read
the titles of thesongs in an
abbreviated
 form. It works.

 Congratulations! Oh, You're gonna
go
 nuts because the music channels
are
 all
commercial free! I also love the
 Radio
 Classics channel. And you can't
beat
 it.
 They're now playing every song
from
 the
 Depression to 1999. That's
happening
 in
 the Decades neighborhood. I've
had
 mine
 since my birthday last November,
and
 man, what a delight! I can't get
 enough
I have it on all the time. I
hardly
 touch regular radio anymore. They
can
take regular radio and throw it
out
 the
window now! And if you love
comedy
 and
crazy stuff, you gotta check out
Dr.
Demento on Sixties on 6 Saturday
 nights
and Deep Tracks if you miss him,
 Sunday
nights and man, I'm just thrilled
that
he is back on. I don't know what
your
favorite music is, Barry, but I am
 sure
you will find it there. It's more
 than
 worth the price to me!

 Hi.
Unfortunately, the Ipod isn't very accessible. All the buttons on
the newer units are touch-sensitive, and provide no tactile feedback. This
might not be insurmountable, but the unit will not speak. The only sounds
that'll be coming out of it will be those of the mp3, once you play it.
Further, the software isn't very accessible. To the best of my knowledge,
you must use the Itunes software (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this,
as I heard some rumblings about Apple switching to a less proprietary
interface, but am not sure if that happened or is going to). There are
better and more accessible players. If accessibility is important to you,
and you want to play only MP3 files, try some of the units from Archos.
These units, with the help of an alternative firmware called Rockbox
 http://rockbox.haxx.se
speak their menus, as well as spelling file names and speaking the
names of folders. If you want to play more formats, like OGG and WMA, your
best bet is to go with one of the Iriver units
 http://www.iriveramerica.com
which, though they do not speak their menus or file/folder names,
are good players and will play more formats than the Archos units. Both
units come in the same capacities as the Ipod and, as a side benefit, are
 usually far cheaper.

Re: Archos and recording from external source

2004-06-02 Thread Sharon Hamm
I have the 15 gig recorder. I never could get rockbox to talk for me when I loaded it.
I became very frustrated with it. I would hit the menu and record would be the first
choice. I had someone set it up for external in the menus and that is what comes up
when I choose record. I just hit play twice after the menu button. I have only missed
a few shows before when I thought it was recording but for some reason didn't load on
the drive. I could hear the audio but don't know why it didn't go on the hard drive.
Hope that makes sense.
