I am sorry to be so stupid, but I just followed the link that was provided, and I got some music. I left it there for a couple of minutes, which might not have been long enough to try it properly. How easy to use is the 2gig zenstone player, and does it have the resume feature. The 1 gig doesn't seem to be available around here any more, and my sons have promised me the 2 gig for Christmas. Scott, and anyone else out there, I, too, am a long time NHL radio listener, and I have had the same problems as you described. And yes, I went all the way to the bottom of the page with no luck. I have no idea of why this is happening, but I did find something that solved my problem, at least on Friday and Saturday. I did a google search with NHL radio in quotes. It took me to the most current radio page which showed all of the games for the specified days. I have no idea of what is causing the problem, and I also don't know if this particular solution will continue to work. I find it somewhat tedious, and would prefer to have things as they once were, but this will do for now, I suppose. I've had no problems on my gateway media centre machine. I have recorded using stereo mix and line out, and I have saved and played various music files. I have also used the voice over plugin with no problems. Sorry, I haven't done anything with a microphone. re: goldwave vs sound forge
I think that goldwave is excellent value for the money. It works well right out of the box, or should I say virtual box, and it can even be used with ms narrator, if you are already somewhat familiar with the program. I understand that sound forge is much faster, but I thought that the demo of version 7 was hard to use. They also tell you when files have been copied to and pasted from the clipboard. They make it possible to change the default folder in which music is stored. They are not necessary, but they are very nice, and they make life with goldwave just that much easier. I never could figure out what to do, so I used real player until I bought winamp pro. Of course, you could always uninstall and reinstall. It would probably work, but it would also be extremely tedious. re: an audio decision that requires some thought
Jamie, I can't give you a complete answer, because by the time I heard about sound forge, it was way out of my price range, and unless the lottery god smiles on us, it probably always will be. I do, however, use gold wave all the time, and it works extremely well with jaws, thanks to Jim Grimsby's excellent scripts. You can also use it with window-eyes, but you don't get some of the information that is available to jaws users. Gold wave does have some drawbacks. It's noise reduction is very weak, and of course, it does not have multi-track capability. You can, however, mix vocals and music with ease, and the results are, I think, quite nice. I use it for file splitting, merging and conversion, and I also record both from the Internet, and from a cassette recorder. If you work with large files, they will take a long time to process. When I work with my sixteen hour file, I know that my machine will be tied up for most of the day. The help manual is excellent, and, next to Kurzweil, it is my favourite program, bar none. Just to clarify things, the yamaha burner to which I referred is a stand alone burner that burns audio cds only, and you have to burn them on discs called audio discs. It will accept both cdr and cdrw audio discs, but it won't accept data discs of either type, and it won't burn data at all. I use it to burn records and then transfer them to the computer. My "personal" stand alone yamaha burner will not recognize data cds. You have to use audio cds, whether you want to or not. This, as I understand it, is standard for these kinds of burners. I still don't know what the difference between data and audio cds is, but it applies to both cdr and cdrws as far as my burner is concerned. re windows media player and labeling tracks
Many thanks to Kevin and others who offered help with this. I have, at long last, solved the problem. Somehow, the item labeled "song title" was listed ahead of the item labeled "track" in the file name section of the cd ripping options. I don't know whether those are the default settings, or whether my inept bungling caused this to happen, but now that I have put "track" at the top of the options list, the numbers come first, and therefore, tracks will now play sequentially, as originally intended, rather than alphabetically. windows media player and labeling tracks
I am using windows media player 10, and after ripping several cds without paying any attention to what was happening, I suddenly realized that wmp was labeling everything alphabetically, rather than numerically. As far as I know, wmp 9 did not do this. Is there anything I can do to get it working properly? My current solution is to use winamp for ripping, which is fine, but I would still like to know whether I have done something to cause this problem, and whether t can be fixed. running sound cards simultaneously

I got a creative audigy external for Christmas, but we couldn't get it to work properly with my intel integrated avance internal. It seemed to be an either, or situation. I don't like my internal, since it has no "What you hear", or "stereo mix" option, so any recommendations on both an internal and external sound card would be welcome. Yes, i downloaded the F.S. instructions about how to configure jaws with sound cards, but that doesn`t necessarily mean that I will be able to get it to work for me. Thanks for any help. low microphone volume
I tried recording with a microphone last night, using both gold wave and real one, and although I got some sound, the volume was extremely low. I set the volume in the microphone section of the sound properties to 100 per cent, but it didn't help. I also checked microphone boost. Is there a windows volume control that I am missing? fast forward in wmp 10
If you tab around in wmp 10, eventually you come to a fast forward button, right after the seek button. Activate it by pressing the space bar. I think that it has three speeds before returning you to the play position. It seems to work quite well, and doesn't hang, as it often seemed to in other versions. I never used it because of that, so I forgot all about it. My advice is to write to the author, Martin Pesch. The link can be found in the faq for mp3 direct cut. He replied to me within 24 hours to let me know that I had the wrong version of the program. I could never get the mglib decoder to work on my machine, either. Is it possible to record files directly onto the computer using the sound card? For example, if I'm listening to something in winamp, can I use a program like mp3 directcut to record it? With stepvoice recorder, it says to use standard window mixer to record streaming audio, but I can't find any such thing on my machine. My master volume control shows cd audio, line in, and microphone. I have an hp machine using jaws 5.1 and windows xp home. cd burning
Maybe someone can explain things, or at least, suggest a good sight to go to in order to find out about conflicts among cd burning programs. My limited understanding is that one should only use one burning program on any given computer. So, if you have nero, you won't want to use anything else. Then, however, I was told that there wouldn't be any conflict between nero and music match junk box, but due to the inaccessibility of that product, I never did get to test the theory. Real one says that the driver is unavailabble, and I could never get windows media player to burn anything. I haven't tried winamp for fear of conflicting with nero. Thanks very much. Dear Terri, I can't help much when it comes to brand names, but it seems to me that analogue tuning is superior to digital, particularly when it comes to a.m. radio. I found a cassette deck, radio combination at a junk shop. It was made in the early 70s, and it doesn't record properly, but it picks up a.m. radio like you wouldn't believe. It cost $10, Canadian, and was worth it just for that. My sony stereo - digital - can't pick up an a.m. station to save its life. Data cds work fine for me. I have made many music cds using them. The difference seems to matter for some types of machines, like our Yamaha stand alone cd burner. It won't recognize data cds at all - no matter how many times you yell at it. the gold wave experience
I'm sure that sound forge is very good, but gold wave is inexpensive and very easy to use. I bought it because of its low cost. I mixed the mp3 files of a 500 page book with various kinds of background music without really knowing what I was doing. I am not a computer wizard, and my results could probably be improved upon. I had never done anything like it before, and my feeling is that if I can do it, so can everyone else. If you're looking for something that's easy to use, gold wave is the way to go. I bought music match when I knew absolutely nothing about multi media players, and it seemed to work, after a fashion, with a demo version of window-eyes that I was using. However, thanks to a partial subsidy from the government, I ended up purchasing jaws which does not work with music match at all. I would like to be able to do something - anything - with it, but the thing that interests me the most is volume normalization. I gather, though, that even that may be of no use, since I think that it only applies to tracks that are being burned to a cd, and if music match conflicts with nero, I couldn't use it, regardless. So, if anyone knows of a good way to normalize volume on several tracks at once, before burning them to a cd, let me know. Thanks for your help. Has anyone managed to get music match to work with jaws. So far, the people who have kindly answered my question, which I posted to the winamp list have had no luck with it, either. Does music match work any better with window-eyes or other screen readers?
