Re: Digital audio recording systems

2007-10-05 Thread Don
One cool thing about the new Marantz digital recorder coming out in
November thoe is it sure does have a damned fine digital read out, for those
with any useable vision. Even said the fonts had a size adjustment. so
you could have large fonts. So that makes that recorder worth taking a
good look at. If the preamp is really quiet. It would make that machine
worth an extra hundred clams. All so sais it has a a built in speaker.
Might be good for doing audio checks, after your recording is done. Don

yes thats correct unless you just want to record the audio while playing the

Subject: Spinner.com ... Anyone know what's going on there?

Hi folks,
I found out about Spinner.com months ago through Toonhead-online.com. I've
downloaded the Spinner.com plug-in for Winamp and I've been listening to
Spinner for quite a while now. One thing I liked about Spinner was that they
had an easy listening channel. My grandmother likes easy listening and I
turned the channel on for the two of us to go to sleep with. Last weekend, I
ran Winamp and got an error message saying that Winamp couldn't connect to
Spinner.com. I went to Spinner's web site and what came up wasn't anything
about Spinner, but a web site for ... Radio at Netscape. ? I thought to
myself, "Uh-oh. I'm a Microsoft Internet Explorer user. I don't think I'll
mess with Radio at Netscape since I don't use Netscape's web browser." I had
heard several years ago that Nullsoft, AOL and Netscape are under the same
umbrella if you will--part of the same company. I downloaded the Radio at
Netscape player from the site at Spinner.com and installed it. A song began
to play. Fine audio quality, but the program wasn't very accessible. I had
to route my PC cursor to my JAWS cursor and move around in the program to
find out what I could listen to. After 30 or so songs, a box pops up saying
"Are you still there? You've listened to 30 songs in a row," or something
like that. I have to click the OK button in order to hear more songs. I
Thought, "well this is silly." I had to leave for a while, so I exited the
program. I came back later and started Radio at Netscape again. This time,
the program said that a newer version of the program is available and would
I like to download and install it. I clicked "yes" and the newer version was
downloaded and installed. The newer version must still be in its beta stages
because the older version is the one people download from the Spinner.com
web site. The newer version is more accessible as at uses the user's default
web browser--in my case, Internet Explorer. But there are several things
about this newer version of Radio at Netscape that I strongly dislike. (1)
The newer version touts AOL for Broadband and Radio at AOL *all over the
place*. Not only was this newer version downloaded and installed, but a
small downloader for downloading AOL for Broadband software was installed on
my system. Icons named "Try AOL for Broadband" were placed on my desktop, in
my start menu, and in my favorites in Internet Explorer. Icon values for AOL
for Broadband were placed in the registry. Links for trying AOL for
Broadband were scattered all throughout the Radio at Netscape program. (2)
This newer version must not support Windows 95 and/or computers with not
that much memory. Currently I'm using a computer with Windows 95, 2 gigs of
hard drive space, 32 MB of RAM, Internet Explorer 5.5 and a cable modem. (Go
ahead, laugh. :-) Yes I am planning on upgrading to a fast XP desktop
computer in the next couple months when I get my tax money back.) Anyway,
the newer version of Radio at Netscape runs v-e-r-y s-l-o-w on my computer.
My computer chokes and gags on it. (3) And this is the thing I dislike the
most: Users of this newer version of Radio at Netscape are only allotted so
many minutes per day to listen to any of the channels on the service. When
users' times are all used up, they are given the message to join AOL so they
can listen to Radio at AOL where they'll be able to listen to channels
unlimited. Now I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous! I mean, is it just me, or
is AOL becoming just like Clear Channel? Well, that discussion is for
another time, another list, but anyway, I find that limitation to be another
one of AOL's desperate ways to bait in more AOL for Broadband victims--uh I
mean customers. Without hesitation, I uninstalled Radio at Netscape and
deleted any shortcuts, links and references to AOL for Broadband on my
system. Ee-gad.
Does anyone know where I can listen to easy listening music--the standards
like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand and, Doris
Day and others? If so, let me know on or off list. Thanks.

Hi,
This has probably been answered as I've been away for a week and
haven't yet gone through all of my email, but I have found that data cd's
work just fine for making audio cd's. I don't think that there is really
much of a difference. Maybe its a way to charge more. I've made several
audio cd's from quote unquote data cd's and they play just fine in my car
player, in my bose accoustic wave, and in my walkman style porrtable cd
player. Just stick with a name that you know, and you should be fine.

I have a radio broadcast file which I would like to put on cd. The only
kind of cds I have are data cds and this does have lots of talking and

music cds to do this?
Thanks.

Hi again,
The other thing I was going to mention is that if I send somebody a .ogg
file would they open it? Or would they just delete it. If they don't know
me, let's say I'm emailing out aircheck tapes of myself for a radio job, I
would say somebody would be more likely to open an mp3 file than a .ogg
simply because mp3 files are more recognizable. Just my thoughts.

Hi All,
I am currently using total recorder version 4 and think that it's a fairly
good piece of software, due to the fact that it records direct streaming
from the internet as opposed to recording all output from the sound card.
However, I am wondering if anyone out there knows of an alternative
program
that will do the same thing? The reason I ask is that I have found that it
is clashing with skype. I can not use skype at all unless I uninstall
total
recorder. Seeing as I use total recorder every day at some point,
uninstalling and re-installing is incredibly tiresome and I'd like to find
a
way around this if possible.

If anyone can help me with this at all, I'd be very glad to hear from you.
Thanks,
Danielle

Re: Where to buy Magic Jac,?

2008-04-05 Thread Don
Go to the following link.
www.magicjack.com
When you enter on the buy link, and fill out your address, and credit card,
info, it will then give you the opportunity too upgrade to the platum plan,
which will give you five additional years for dollar 50. You can't beat ten
dollars a year, after the first year.
The upgrade info, wasn't real screen reader friendly for me. Might not be a
bad idea, to have a sighted person around when you order.
I should get my magic jack this week. What a fine deal.Regards

Hello James!

To answer your question about Magicjack and Screenreaders (JAWS or
Windows-eyes), yes, a blind person can use it just fine. All you do is
insert the Magicjack into a USB port and it installs itself temporarily.
You have to answer a few questions at the sign-in screen the first time, but
that is it. The interface on the screen is not to accessible, but it has a
skype-like interface and you can enter numbers and there is a dial and
hang-up button. However, once the program is loaded, you can minimize the
screen, so Magicjack is hidden or minimized; then you can plug a regular
house phone into the MJ unit and you are ready to go. You get a regular
dial-tone and you can make phone calls directly from the regular phone. You
don't even have to use the screen at all. It works directly like a regular
phone.

One thing: On my old Dell Desktop, once I plug the MJ unit, the sound goes
to the phone (XP Pro); however, when I plug the MJ unit into the HP Desktop
(Vista) I don't get the same effect and the sound stays with the computer.
You can turn off JAWS and just use the phone. Some guy said you could start
JAWS first and plug in the MJ unit later and the USB may not take over the
sound card.

Like I said, MJ is definitely usable via the phone regardless of your
screenreader.

I have the unit and it works fine. They could, however, do a little
script-type work on the screen interface. The good thing about it is that,
once you get the unit, your phone costs go way down. You only have to pay a
small licensing fee in succeeding years ($18 a year for me, as I bought unit
early, but it may be cheaper for current purchasers). Free long distance in
US and Canada and skype-type credits for calling abroad. I think, however,
that, if you sent a friend or relative in another country a unit, you could
have free long-distance calling, as long as you both are logged on or if you
call your MJ number and it is in England, they could answer it and pay
nothing. I like that.

James

slider 2 iss the microphone vvolume. After you change the volume, be sure

Good deal, I'm glad your volume is high. folks said they could berly hear
me, all the time, while using magic jack.I think I have a defective
magic jack. I sent it back, I'm getting my money back. Their customer
support is among the worse I have ever seen any where. They have some
kind of chat window they want you to use. My screen reader would not read
their chat support window. I could not get them too either email, are call
me. They wouldn't try and help at all.
I tried different phones, tried upgrading, and tried changing settings.
nothing worked. So that is my experience with the magic jack folks.

It all depends on what you really want to do with the Olympus recorder. I
have the DS30 and like it just fine. Now I will say, I just use it for
notes, and phone numbers, and messing around. A speech are two every once
an a while. That's about it. On HQ mono, which is what I use most of the
time, the DS30 will give you over 18 hours of recording time.
With excellent quality, So again I would make your choices, according to
what you really want to do with your recorder.

I haven't noticed an adapter jack. How ever, the battery life, is great. I
think they claim around 35 hours, depending on what you are doing. So I
have never worried much about using batteries.
It does have a jack too plug in an included USB cable. It all so came with
software. How ever I never installed it. That's because your computer will
see it as another drive. And you can just copy and past files.
I think the only thing besides memory, is on the DS50 you get some kind of
included remote control, but again for my uses, I just don't even need the
remote.

Hi Don,

This is Tim. Does the recorder you wrote about have a power adaptor
jack where you can run it without having to use batteries?

Also, is it possible to move the recorded files to a PC via the USB? It
sounds like a good recorder. I read the specs on the 50 along with the
30, and the main differences seem to be memory...256 mb over 1 gb.

I've attached some information on the 30 if anyone wants to read up on
it...See below.

This is a copy from the sight where I found the information. Make sure
and read the entire document.

Hello Lynn

For it's price, I think the Zoom H2 is one fine, outstanding, excellent,
fantastic, awesome piece of machinery.
I owned one for just under 2 months, when out of stupidity, I tried to put
my Zoom on electricity, not realising that in the US they use 120 Volts,
compared to the 240 we use in South Africa.
Needless to say, my Zoom is ... Well, yeah.
I'm still crying crocodile tears about it, and plan to re-invest in another
one in the very near future.

Sighted assistance initially might be a good idea, but as someone else said,
the Zoom remembers your preferences.

Well, to conclude:

Enjoy every second of your Zoom.

All the best

Hi! I bought myself a Zoom H2 and it should be arriving by UPS within the
next couple days. I have listened to Neal Ewers' excellent podcasts on this
recorder, and have downloaded and read through the manual, but I was
wondering if anyone out there could give me the menu structure for it, or
any other advice you have found helpful, especially since I will have very
little to no sighted help. I was very disappointed with the sound quality

I don't know, about the best ear buds, but I have a pair of Sony, buds, I

before reinstalling windows xp I would reset the cmos on the mother board by
removing the battery. Everything you have should auto detect after that
though you may have to restart the machine twice. Make sure you have a
sighted person there just in case if you are blind. If that doesn't work I
would reinstall the sound card drivers. That is why I have a set of USB
speakers in case something like this goes wrong.

Hello,

I was fascinated by Jonathan's review of his Iriver using Rockbox.
However, I would like clarification regarding model numbers. I have
not met with much success when searching for Iriver h140. Are there
other numbers or perhaps a hyphen in the model number? When searching,
I sometimes find an H10, and I don't know whether the 10 refers to a
ten gig unit or whether H10 is an entirely different series of players.

My thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.

Well I thought I'd try the Walmart site and, for the most part, it seems
accessible with Jaws. But for those who have used it, where in the world is
the download and how can I find it?! I bought one song just to try this out
and it took me forever and several steps and trials and errors to find the
thing. I couldn't even find it when I went to start menu and search! I'd
like to be able to move the items from wherever in windows media that
Walmart puts it and place these purchased songs in my regular song folder.
Is this not possible? I finally stumbled on it by control tabbing a lot in
windows media and going to library button, but if someone can tell me an
easier way and perhaps a way to copy my Walmart songs I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

I am in the market for digital recorder that can record more than 30 to 40
hours, can run on batteries for 15 to 20 hours, includes a good microphone
which is also suitable for recording sounds outdoors and offers the facility
to set its options from the computer. I should be able to save the files in
mp3 either on the device directly or with the use of a software that is
accessible to a certain extent. It would be nice if the recorder had a
facility to add SD or MMC Cards but that is not an important criteria.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Hi. I think you may be slightly exagerating your comments. Sure, there's
some high end loss but not enough to make the station unlistenable. If you
have a decent pair of stereo speakers the sound is quite acceptable. You
should also be aware that any new radio station can possibly have teathing
problems. I heard a commercial station in Australia in 1980 which came on
the air and because their limiter wasn't working properly they had to keep
adjusting the sound to compensate. Foor goodness sake, give Jonathan a fair
go and remember where some of you got your start in broadcasting. If he
hadn't started ACB Radio Interactive some of you people who are so quick to
be critical wouldn't be broadcasting today.

hi. I've noticed the *exact* same thing, and I
know of 2 or 3 other people who have noticed it too.
It's as if there is absolutely no high end on the

something like a 24k or 32k mp3 stream may
sound. I'm not in any way complaining about this
as I explained to Jonathan privately, but I
wanted to confirm what Dana is saying here.
It's like there's a whole lot of bass, but very little to no high
frequencies.
Let's hope we can track it down very soon!

Hello listers.

I recently purchased a plantronics dsp-500 headset. It uses a u s b
connection and software/firmware for its operation.

By using the software one is suppose to adjust various audio characteristics
of the headset such as balance, volume, tone and eq characteristics as well
as microphone volume and muting.

If you are blind however using a screen reader (in my case Jaws) it appears,
that there is no access to the menus used to make such adjustments.

Is anyone familiar with the plantronics headsets and if so have you overcome
the accessibility problem?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Jokerdog referes to the robert betz website where you download accessible
games. We have all used his games at one time or another. I don't think he
created this file but I have emailed him with a copy of the email we
received on the bct list. We will see. I would not run this file.

I ran it through my virus checker and it came back with no virus found but
that doesn't mean anything. 2 things tipped me off as to Jokerdog's
Identity. The Jokerdog I know is a blind person and I honestly believe that
he would never do such a thing. I don't believe he even knows programming.
This guy signed his message Daniel and I have no idea who this person is
but perhaps he's sighted. I'm sorry that people have run in to trouble and
this is a good reason to backup your machines so you can roll back incase

Fortunately I didn't run this .EXE file but one thing that made me
very suspiscious was the fact that the file was only 149,606 bytes in
size. Even if the file was compressed in some way I doubt that the
code required for a sound editor could be contained in such a small file.

try a new battery. if that doesn't help try a new disk. The machine may need
cleaned. You can buy a mini disc cleaner for the drive from mini disco or

feel that you may have a bad disc but I have heard of some machines having

I just purchased a new Police scanner which is the pro-97 from Radioshack.
It's a hand held unit and it is amazing how clear it is but it is rather
complicated for a blind person to use even though one can buy an interface
kit for use with the computer. I'm asking here because I'm wondering if
anyone on this list has had experience with this radio or knows the easiest
way for me to program it for our Molorola Type II Smartnet system. I'd be
also interested to know if anyone has used the interface kit and whether
it's speech friendly. I read the manual for this radio but it's real
complicated. The radio unfortunately is not blind friendly and while I have
sighted friends they are not scanner people so they don't understand how to
program a trunked system. Any help or direction you can give would be
appreciated and if you have one of these radios or have a sighted friend
I'd really appreciate email so I can get you to help me get this radio all
up and running. I think in this hand held radio they have put a new type of
speaker in it. It's outstanding clear and real sensitive. It's amazing to
me how far hand held scanners have come. I haven't owned a hand help radio
for a few years now.
Thanks for any help.

getting mp3 files to play in winamp

2007-03-06 Thread don bishop
I'm using Windows Vista and have windows media 11 and also winamp
on the machine.

I have all filetypes selected within winamp, but can't seem to get
wmp to leave the mp3 files alone. I can't locate where to unselect
all filetypes so they will automatically play in winamp instead.

Maybe ms deliberately hid this setting to force people to use wmp,
but certainly is frustrating. I had no problem with this on my old
machine running wmp 10.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Don

windows media 11 file associations

2007-03-07 Thread don bishop
I asked this question yesterday with no response, so let me try
again and hopefully state the problem more clearly.

I have a desktop machine running Windows Vista and Windows Media
Player 11. I prefer winamp, so installed it on the machine and
under file types I selected all for the file associations.

If I play mp3 files from within wimamp they play just fine, but if
I simply hit enter on the file I want from windows explorer, the
file plays in windows media.

I can't seem to find the place in wmp 11 to change the file
associations settings in order to prevent wmp from automatically
play the mp3's.

Does anyone know how I can get the files to play automatically in
winamp?

Thanks,

Don

setting frequency on the veronica 50 MW transmitter

2007-03-22 Thread don bishop
Hi,

Does anyone on the list have a recent Veronica 50 MW fm transmitter?

I'm trying to figure out just which tuning tool I need in order to
adjust the transmit frequency. Also, which screws do you remove to
get the unit out of the case or at least get the bottom exposed.

I use this transmitter to pipe pc audio throughout the house to fm
receivers and need to adjust the frequency.

Any help would be appreciated.

Although it has to do with pc-audio, it may be considered somewhat
off-topic
for this list, so feel free to write me privately.

Thanks,

don My veronica has a large whole cut in to the bottom of the case. You use
a non metalic Flat tuner to move the tuner inside. Once I set mine I could
forget it. I would suggest that you let the transmiter Warm for about

Rick,

Just a note to give you a little info about Thunder that you apparently did
not know when you did your Thunder demo.

The way to save your speech settings in Thunder is:

Before hitting the "OK" in the settings menu you press alt + "F" and you
will get a list of saving choices. Once you save your new settings Thunder
will come up using your new settings every time you reload the software.
Also, you can turn off the musical tones by unchecking "use music" in the
settings menu.

I need help installing rockbox

2007-04-26 Thread Don Ball
Hello. I am working with an iaudio x5. Here is what I have done. I went to
the rockbox site and downloaded the boot loader two Firmware. the file was
x5fw.bin. Next I went and got the rockbox software for the x5. The file was
called rockbox.zip. I unzipped the Rockbox software to the root directory
and It created a folder called rockbox. I then went and got a voice file and
installed it in the langs directory in the rock box folder. I went and
installed the fonts directory after the player didn't work right the first
time and still nothing.
I didn't copy the rockbox.iaudio to the root however. I let the firmware
update the player and turned the player on. Now the player speaks a bit but
It is like it is stuck in the main menu and not the play menu or the folder
view menu where it should be. What Am I doing wrong? Could some one send me
the necessary files to do this job or do I have the corect files?
I was able to put the old firmware back on but I would really like to
install rockbox and have it work. If I get my friends player right I plan to
buy my own.

what will come up initially?
I seem to go directly in to the main menu but I can't access anything. If I
move up and down Some things speak and some don't and when I move left and
right I seem to tree in to and out of the menus. Boy I like this new build
of jaws 8. Finally it is working right.- Original Message -

Hi,
What you need to do is first of all place the x5fw.bin in the firmware
directory. Plug in the power cord before you paste that in there. Unplug
the USB and turn the player off. Turn it back on again and that part
should be done. Then, if you have the latest daily build, which is what
you need, for the IAudio X5, copy and paste the .rockbox directory into
the root and put the english.voice, again from a daily build, into the
langs directory. You'll need to go to files to find your music, and
resume playback once you've got stuff going.

If you need any more help, EMail me offlist

Hi,
The main menu should come up. You should land on the Files option. Press
select or right arrow and you should hear your directories voiced
however you set that up.

I'm curious. How do you think this makes it more inconvenient? Are you
thinking it's more inconvenient than something which has a rechargeable
battery in it but uses an AC adapter to charge it? If so, I'm thinking
whether you plug it into a USB port or an AC outlet, it would all be the
same. I guess though AC outlets are still more ubiquitous than USB
ports. If I go on vacation, like a cruise, I'd still have to bring my
laptop just to recharge my Creative Zen Stone.

If you're comparing it to something which takes batteries then I guess
it would be more inconvenient, when the battery runs down, you have to
tether yourself to an electrical outlet or a USB port while it's
charging, but if it took batteries, you could just pop a fresh battery
in and go. I guess for the price, you could always buy two!

OK never mind, you're right, I can see where it would be a bit nor
inconvenient! I'm still asking for one for Father's Day though! I have
the Creative MuVo with 128M of memory, and having something that's
supposed to be just as easy to use, but with 1GB of memory is just too
appealing. Plus I see it's size and the fact that it has rechargeable
batteries as providing it's own conveniences. I don't have to worry
about spare batteries or carrying two separate cords.

Hi Alison.

That's exactly how I shut down the stone, hold the play/pause button
depressed until the music stops, and I've had no problems with battery life.

Is your player running down or are you using the creative software to
determine charge left? Also, how long are you charging for? I tend to
leave hooked up to the usb. for a couple of hours. I guess the only other
question is whether there's some problem with the usb you're using, tried
another?

Hi.

Can't say that I've seen this player but I do own a creative zen 20 gig
player that has the same features. The zen 20 gig has touch controls and is
menu driven but it is possible to get around with a little effort.

The reason I mention this player is that I bought a remote control for my
zen which makes it easier to use and particularly with the radio. The
remote doesn't help with the menu structure but it does have a dedicated
button for toggling the player between radio and mp3 playback and it has
next track, previous track, pause, play, stop and volume up and down. This
means that you can lock the player itself and drive it completely from the
remote until you need to dive into the menus to maybe choose another
playlist or album, genre etc.

The remote looked pretty universal for creative players so may work with
this new player or they'll maybe have a new one that will.

Regards.

Subject: buying a new cd drive, some questions

Hi listers,

It looks like my Lite-On drive of a bit over three years is on the
fritz. I have tried running a cd cleaner from memorex through the
thing a number of times, but no major improvement if any when it
comes to the consistent reading of cds, so I'm going to buy another
drive. Since the trend has gone to dvd drives, I am a bit concerned
as to what I should be on the look out for as it concerns working
with my version of Nero 6. I don't want to get home with a drive,
only to find out that it will not be compatible with my burning
software. And, I really like Nero, but don't really want to have to
invest another 80 bucks or so for an upgrade. After all, that price
may be twice that of the driver unit. Anyway, if anybody can shed any
helpful light on my above stated concerns, I will be eternally grateful.

Now, I doubt that I will be watching any movies with this new drive.
I'm only planning to maybe back up files to a dvd disc on occasion,
but there's always that eventuality. Is there a drive that will work
well with both standards, and how much should such a drive set me back?

Oh well, guess that's it. If anybody can come up with any possible
concerns that I should be aware of in making such a switch, please let me
know.

Thanks,

Larry

buy it with a rechargable battery option for about $135 shipped. It has a

It is a twenty wat pa. you can get it from dak.com or call toll free

I heard that in new releases of the firmware you can shut off the recording

edirol page so you must be able to do this. How?

Is there a program that will tell you the UPC code of an audio CD? I found a
program to catalog my CD's, but I need something to tell me the UPC codes.

drive first? The unit was used, and there was no manual.

I would like to try windows media version 10, but, as I use win amp as my

If I install media 10, how do I stop it from being my default player and just
be able to use it when I choose?
Thanks

Iriver h320 and h340 are they accessible

2005-03-06 Thread Don Ball
I am seeing that the ihp 140 is hard to get now. besides the h340 is cheaper
in price. question are these new players as accessible as the old? I don't
care about the f m radio but do both players act as a recorder like the ihp
140? I want a 40 gig player. I am having to look for space on my ihp 120 and
need the growing room. but it must be as accessible as the one I have.

I find that the remote from the ihp120 works with this player. They say it

on remote sets repeat function. hold volume for one second puts you in to e
q mode. after the button is released continued presses will rotate the e q
settings. I wonder if you could load the old flash for the 100 series
players to get the old functions? I will not try it but I still wonder?

you should hold pause first and press record for record stand by. and then

simply playing music

2005-04-13 Thread Don Smith
Hi:
Well, from this note you will see I am not an audiophile, but, I do have a
query.
I think I know the answer, but, I'll ask anyhow.
I am using win amp 5.08. Using win eyes and software speech. Lots of memory
and disk space.
However, I cannot play any of my music. I get an error stating I either have a
bad driver or my sound card is not available.
I am using creative oddigy card.
So, is it because I am using software speech and the sound card is tied up, is
that why I cannot play music?
If so, is there an answer?
Thanks for helping a novice when it comes to audio.

Sound Forge 8 help needed with plugin installs:

2005-04-28 Thread Don Breda
Hi Listers.

I reasantly upgraded to Sound Forge v 8 from v5. I also have the noise
reduction plugin installed.
I finally got the noise reduction plugins to be recognized by SF8 but it wasn't
easy.

I have just installed a bunch of vst plugins as well and although I can see
them when I bring up the FX pulldown, I can't get them in to the favorites
folder so I can actually use them.

Can someone advise me as to what to do. I use window-eyes mostly but use jaws6
as well so I can use whatever screen reader your familiar with.

Thanks for any help in advance.

This is the first of at least a few more sound forge questions which I will
post in separate messages but lets start here for now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don

query on ipodder

2005-05-03 Thread Don Smith
Hi:
I trust my enquiry is in order.
I have successfully downloaded and installed ipodder. Great fun so far.
However, as I was downloading some streams, it came to me, "how about
spywareand viruses?"
I have all of the protection, spybot, norton, adaware, ms anti spyware, but,
with the freedom of ipodder, do I have to be more careful, or just the normal
watch of spyware and viruses.
Second question if I may, once the feed has been chosen, are all future streams
automatically downloaded to mydefault folder?
Thanks

users of Ipodder

2005-05-04 Thread Don Smith
Hi:
I have installed Ipodder, worked a couple of items with success, however, now
I'm stuck.
I followed the prompt when installing to have ipodder install at start up.
My problem now is, how do I get into the programme?
When I try from the sys tray or shortcut on desktop, or under programmes, the
same thing comes up.
Another copy of ipodder is running, raise it, wait, or kill it.
I don't know how to raise it, I can do ok and close it, but, as for wait, I
have waited for overan hour and the same prompt comes up.
What I would like to do is to get into the preferences, but, until I get into
the programme, I'm beat.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

podcasting good list of

2005-05-05 Thread Don Smith
Hi:
As I am getting deeper into podcasting, I am being a little more selective.
So attention, Chris Garstad, you gave me a list to subscribe to regarding
podcasters, would you give it to me again? Thanks.
Also, I am sure there are hundreds of good sites for podcast lists, but, is
there perhaps one in general with various choices?
I am not much into hard rock or pods with some what vulgar, but, perhaps music,
technical, or generic interest.
One other item, I would like to get main menu, is that possible, and if so, do
I put in the earl for acbradio, I am sure it must be more exact with the
address.

Roxio dvd creater 6 and c d database

2005-05-17 Thread Don Ball
easy c d creater 6 seems to find more c d info than audio grabber or cdex. I
wonder if they use two different sorces for retreving c d data and if so
does any one know the server name for the one roxio uses? It will find most
if not all cds I look for when cdex or audio grabber stumbles. I would put
the server line in my audio grabber if I could find it.
I would even pay for the use of the sorce if I know what it was?

Re: napster to go with IRiver H320

2005-06-05 Thread Don Ball
brian you probably have to use the middle usb port as it supports the media
to go functions of the player. the end port acts as a regular hard drive on
the pc and the middle port supports the digital rights management feature.
see if that helps. you may also have to reconfigure the u s b ports in the
menus. in there you will find an option for desktop or terminal support.
don't know what that is so I left it alone.
