You will find resample in the process menu. The sample rate of the source and
destination must be the same, e.g. 44,100, 22.050,

hello friends i know there is a special sound forge mailing list, but i
can't remember the address, i have sound forge seven, i was recently sent a
pen drive on which there were some audio files, mp3 i think, i wanted to
put them in to sound forge, but i keep getting a message saying the source
sample rate is higher than the destination sample rate i ignored the
message and proceeded to load the files, but they played slow, now my
question, how do i change the sample rate, i'm using sound forge seven, i
hope i've made myself clear, all the files on the pen drive are the same
type, take care, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard.

I seem to remember that there is a key stroke that will mark the

2009-04-03 Thread Matthew Bullis
Yes, it's I for in, or the starting marker, and O for out, for the ending
marker. Also remember that if you use control shift K, you'll hear upto the
cursor position, so that it plays a bit before you've stopped, so you can
hear exactly where you are, and where you're about to mark in or out.. I've
found that it's a bit tricky to undo an in or out marker, because it gets
confused. If you know you've done it wrong, just hit delete, and then
control Z, to undo the delete. That will usually clear the wrong position.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Sound forge question

2008-09-03 Thread Rays Home
Hi, I have a Power Users Guide in print to Sound Forge 7 and 8 and I'm
pretty sure that advanced batching and scripting options are available only
in Sound Forge 8 and beyond. This would allow, surely, for complex tasks
such as combining many smaller files into one large one. (Isn't there a way
in the command line utilities within Windows to actually do this?)

I throw these in as pointers, but will willingly defer to a guru on SF and
Windows/DOS batch language.

On the subject of accessing SF9 propperly, I believe JFW users have some
good scripts curtasy of the Snowman. Surely only a mater of time before
someone does the same for Window-Eyes 7 when its teathing troubles with
scripting are sorted. Same might go for HAL 9 too.

Ray.

Play the file through to the bit where it goes quiet, then pause.
Press control-home and this will select from this point to the beginning
of the file.
You should then be able to normalize in the usual way, remembering that

Hi. Based on the advice offered by many members of this group, I finally
purchased Sound Forge. Now, is it me, or are the CDs that load the program
and related software somewhat inaccessible? Can someone point me in the
right direction here? So far, I accidentally stumbled onto the Sound Forge
.exe, but no luck with the programs that come with it. I have both
Windo-Eyes and Jaws, so I can work with either.

Now then, just as an observation and with no wish to stir up controversy
 of
any kind, in my view, the current definition of what is deemed appropriate
for discussion as PC Audio has narrowed of late, so if I've strayed off
topic, my appollogies, and please feel free to email me with suggestions

My thanks in advance to anyone who might be willing to lend a hand.

Here's what I do in Gold Wave, I'm guessing the procedure is similar in
Sound Forge. First, select the portion of the sound where you want the
fade-down to occur. Then run a fade-out on that selection to your desired
level. Then copy the time of the completion of the fade into the standard
clipboard. Set the new start of selected time to the time you just copied
to your clipboard, and the finish time to the end of the file. Now just
set your volume for the selected portion at the same level you faded down
 to in the previous step.

So what we want is to fade the sound out to half it's volume, and keep it
there for the rest of it's intire length.
 Is this durable?

 Thanks in advance.

2006-01-24 Thread Sarah Heesen
Brian,

I see what Patrick is saying. I'm not familiar with sound forge, but I'm
sure it would work as follows:

Record a silent file as long as your ambience file.
Play your ambient file up until the place you want it to get quieter.
At that point in the file, mix your silent file on top of your ambient file,
being sure to select fade-on-edges and to set the destination volume to -6
db or lower.
(Destination volume = the volume of your ambience file, so you're forcing
the volume down that way.)
Then trim the silence from the end of your file and you're good.

work too well. What you could do, and this is a rather stupid
workaround, might be to create a file of nothing but silence of just a
bit over the length of the file, then just mix it on top of the original
file using fade-on-edges, and change the destination volume to -6 DB or

 Brian,

I see what Patrick is saying. I'm not familiar with sound forge, but I'm
sure it would work as follows:

Record a silent file as long as your ambience file.
Play your ambient file up until the place you want it to get quieter.
At that point in the file, mix your silent file on top of your ambient
file,
being sure to select fade-on-edges and to set the destination volume to -6
 db or lower.
(Destination volume = the volume of your ambience file, so you're forcing
 the volume down that way.)
Then trim the silence from the end of your file and you're good.

Bryan: you can do this with envelope fading, but that doesn'ty seem to
work too well. What you could do, and this is a rather stupid
workaround, might be to create a file of nothing but silence of just a
bit over the length of the file, then just mix it on top of the original
file using fade-on-edges, and change the destination volume to -6 DB or
 lower.

Re: Sound forge question

2006-01-23 Thread Bruce Toews

You can get a fifty dollar version with all but the most advanced features,
and you lose the ability to preview an operation before performing it, but
without paying for the program, all you can do is try it out, and you can't
save any work. The fifty dollar version is called Sound Forge Studio.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers

2005-10-30 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, if all the audio is in the left channel, use the process menu, choose
channel convert, and then choose stereo to mono, 100 percent, no faders.
It's part of the presets in the box. That will get the job done. If the best
of two channels is on the left or the right, and you want to ignore bad or
low audio in the other channel, hit tab till the sound comes out of the
channel with bad or low audio. Then go to the process menu and choose mute.
That will mute only that selected channel. Hit tab till you get back to
where the unmuted channel is playing your audio, and then do the steps
outlined above. You then get only the good audio from the one good channel,
without mixing in bad audio that might be on the other channel. This often
happens with old tapes. That's why I brought it up, and thought I'd give you
both situations so you could refer back to them at a later time if need be.
This comes in handy if you have a tape where the audio only ever comes out
the left channel. The right side is just a tape hissing noise, so better not
to even have that at all. If you record in mono, then you're getting both
left good channel and right empty hissing channel. That's where the muting
one channel comes in the best use.
Thanks a lot.

But you'd still get the hissing from the mixer itself, regardless of whether
that channel is on or not. It still usually makes some kind of noise. I'm a
perfectionist, and do archive work sometimes for personal use usually, and
so this is what I use to get the best sound, by muting the unused channel.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

2005-02-27 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Two ways to do what you want. You could go into Pitch which is off alt-c
and fiddle with the sliders, using the preview function so that you can tell
when you've got things the way you want. You could also go into the
properties of the recorded file, alt-enter, look for the Performance tab
with ctrl-tab, and move from 44,100 to 22,050. Make sure you do the Next
recording at 44,100, so you can repeat the process. Actually, it doesn't
have to be 44,100, it can be anything setting you can halve. Remember, this
will effect the sound of the tape, so, if you decide to use 22,050 and go to
11,025, things will sound different from 44,100 and 22,050.
Hope this helps.

I am trying to record from a steroe tape deck to Sound forge. I am
recording a 4 track talking book.

I am able to separate the tracks, and reverse the one that has recorded

I thought I could achieve this with re-sampling but doesn't seem to work,
what am I doing wrong?

Hi!
Alt+C P will get you in to the pitch menu. There you have to hit S for
Shift.
You should be on some preset's. Try each one of them by down errowing and
hit ALT+P to preview the setting's effect on your sound file. ALT+P is a
toggle. Pressing it again will stop the listening of the selection.

Use your mouse cursor to look around. each preset changes a few values on
the screen.
Final time and Musical equivalent.
In my example they are:

Final time (00:02:37.341 to 15:52:34.800): 01:39:57.669
Musical equivalent: Down Octave
Hope this helps. If not, please write me privatley, and I'll try and help

In the Resample dialogue there is a checkbox labeled Check the sample
rate only, do not resample. In order to get the speed you expect it needs
to be checked when you do your resampleing.
I've never understood why people do the resampleing. I always use
pitch shift. If you're recording from a commercial tape deck then you would
want to pitch shift down one octave or 12 semitones.
