Wel, if you in the US, you can buy from the Olympus store online, or
you can try scanacan.com if I have it correct, or try find another
dealer. I think that handy tech north America also get them, not sure
if they got the ls100, and it cost about 399 dollars. It talk about 90
to 95%, it does not read everything in the multi track screen, but
that is possible to overcome, and it don't speak the time and date,
neither the settings for that, but it can be set easily with beeps.

Ok, and, all righty then, where do I find one, or how much does it cost,
and, sheesh, so full of questions, how much does it talk, etc.

Why do people doubt the ls14? Why is it kind of cool? Its equal or at
least very close to the ls100. Just cheaper. The micks are quiet and
can handle a lot of pressure. And you don't need spoken menus to be
able to to use the multi track stuff on the 100. Just assign the mute
and solo functions to to of the function keys and you good to go as
you can here on wich thrack you are when you press play.

For most situations there's little point, we're talking about 2 different
things here, you're talking about HD Movies - which incidentally are sampled at
192KHZ 24 bit and we're talking about hand held digital recorders which in most
cases don't even need to sample anywhere near as high as that, 96KHZ at 24 bit
- which the H1 handles - is more than enough for live performances if you want
to do that sort of thing with a hand held recorder.

96KHZ sampling rate translates to 48KHZ, way above what the human ear can hear
though your pet dog may be interested.

That's true too, but that's a lot of editing if it's a long file. I guess
just starting a new file might not be so bad.

No, you can't pause but the H1 does start recording immediately to a new
file so that's pausing in a roundabout way and as I also mentioned some time
ago, you can Mark portions of a recording so you could for example mark a
portion that you wanted to erase or edit from a recording and see the marked
portion in an audio editor, doesn't matter to me about pausing as the same
facilities exist with the Zoom H1, you just use them in a different way.

I think 1 of the newer Zoom models has a Pre-Record buffer and I have to
admit this would be damn handy, with a Pre-Record buffer, the recorder is
always recording, if you then hear a sound like a dog barking, a gun shot or
start of conversation you can press the Record button knowing that what
you heard will have been recorded even though you may have pressed the
Record button after the sound was actually heard.

Yeah, I'd go with the Olympus ones. Even the LS-7 might do since you
don't seem to be too demanding on sound quality. I recommend this one
since it does 96 KHZ 24 Bit. So does the H1 but my problem is you
 can't pause whilst recording.

Don't want to repeat myself over and over smile but for the price you can't
really go past the Zoom H1 recorder which is available for under $100.00 if you
look around, I've had mine now for nearly 3 years and just wouldn't do without
it, I use it to record everything from live good quality recording to voice
memos.

Sampling rates range from 44.1-96KHZ and you can record in either Wave or MP3
formats.

Recorder has a switchable AGC, Roll-off filter etc.

Don't want to repeat myself over and over smile but for the price you
can't really go past the Zoom H1 recorder which is available for under
$100.00 if you look around, I've had mine now for nearly 3 years and just
wouldn't do without it, I use it to record everything from live good
quality recording to voice memos.

Sampling rates range from 44.1-96KHZ and you can record in either Wave or
MP3 formats.

Recorder has a switchable AGC, Roll-off filter etc.

There's no doubting that Voice Guidance is a help to some people.

The Zoom H1 is perfectly accessible, doesn't have voice guidance but is a lot
cheaper!

If you know how to operate a casette recorder than you can easily operate a
Zoom H1, just press the Record button and recording starts, press it again
and recording stops.

The buttons are easily identifiable, the Record button is the 1 and only
large button on the front of the unit, the rest are on the sides.

Having said all that I'm aware that Zoom have released several other models
after the H1, not exactly sure what model numbers they are or how they compare
to the H1.

The only small flaw in the performance of the H1 comes with the use of an
External Microphone, in very quite passages of recording you may hear some
background hiss from the Mic amplifiers of the H1 but again far from a serious
problem, after all! who records passages of silence? No one I know of smile.

Maybe so. Is it just me though? I could hear a wider stereo image in 24 bit.
The clarity maybe not so much. All though remember I did these recordings on
a laptop's built in audio. Not an LS-100. Most dephinitly not a Sound

Also, if there really were no point at all, then why even make them? HD
movies on BDs are 24 bit, and I hear something in those by the way, and I
know sony said on a tutorial for SF that it's to capture more info or
capture the info more acuritlyor completely? But why waist the space then?
But I digress. Point is and now it's a thesis I guess because it can be
argued, it would be good to have it just in case you do need it and it ends
up meening something.
