RE: re soundforge
Brian, as far as I recall, pressing tab in Sound Forge while focus is on the wave editing window moves the cursor to left, right, and back to two channel focus. So, if you have a two channel file open you should be moving between track one and the other track going in reverse. I cannot understand why you are pressing tab before saving the file though. Shouldn't that be control-s for regular saving, or alt-f a for save as? If you do that without pressing any other intervening key the file should be saved in stereo if that's how the file was recorded. >From Ray I can be contacted off-list at: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of brian parker Sent: 2 February 2008 3:19PM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: re soundforge hi list, i am using soundforge seven. lately, i have come across a rather odd result in my recordings. i am using a a p h to record two tracks at once in soundforge. i then have to reverse one of them to save them. the problem is, that when i am feeding the a p h in to soundforge, and have it set for sterio, i can hear the tracks going in to separate speakers. when i want to save the tracks, i press tab, but instead of getting one track, i get both tracks coming out of one speaker. if i press tab again, i get both tracks coming out of the other speaker. i can't work out what is the trouble. obviously, it isn't my lead, or i wouldn't hear the two tracks coming out of the speakers, one in to the left hand speaker and the other track in to the right speaker. if anyone has ever had this trouble, perhaps you found out the problem. i have been using this method of recording from the a p h for some time, ever since someone told me how to separate the tracks, using it satisfactorily. it is only lately, that i have run in to trouble. brian. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. RE: re soundforge
I've just tried separating out the individual tracks of a stereo recording in Sound Forge 7. I tabbed to the left hand track and found I could highlight the whole of that one track by pressing control-shift-end. Copied that to the clipboard and did control-E as you are doing to copy the highlighted track to a new window. This worked fine, and I ended up with a mono track containing just the one track. Did the same for the lower, righthand track, which also worked. I found also that if you move focus to one track with tab and use control-A the two tracks get highlighted and so these two get copied to a new window. So, I don't know if that helps, but isolation of one track seems to work for me in SF 7. Re: re itunes
There is a download button at the bottom of the checkboxes. Enter on that and it will open a new site and ask if you want to save the file. I usually just choose run and let it download and install the program. So after checking that box hit b for button and hit enter. Then either save the file and run that file or just let it run from that dialog. Hi Steve, I am using SF 11 Pro on a 64-bit system without issue. As for Izotope, some of the repair stuff works and some doesn't. I use EQ and Exciter mostly, so I can get vocal detail out of bad recordings. I also use a stand alone program called Groove Mechanic, which is primarily designed for cleaning up vinyl and tape, but the noise reduction and gating is fantastic. If you have a file with noise on it, then do send it to me, and I will process it with GM just to show you how good it is. GM is about 30 bucks if I remember right but is completely accessible. GM is designed to get rid of all kinds of hiss and it does it without question. Crackles too. Anything like that is fair game, even 60hz hum. Hope this helps. Curtis, Thanks for setting the record straight. I had an old version of Sound Forge and had to upgrade because it would not install on my 64-bit system which is why I finally had to upgrade. Steve, I might have to check Groove Mechanic out. Mostly, I've been happy with Sound Forge's Noise Reduction, but I find I have to spend a lot of time playing with parameters to get it the way I want it. Hi. CDEX will rip to Wave or rip to MP3. It will convert from mp3 to wave and wave to mp3. It will also record and save as mp3 or Wave but it doesn't do Og files for any of that, I'm using 1.51. You can have multiple effects processing sound at one time so you can hear the end effect. Of course, this could result in a log of processing and a computer may have trouble with processing it all in real time. Greetings, GoldWave works well for people without or with poor sight, I'm totally blind and have been using it for must now be about eight years. If you are using Jaws, there are some good scripts available, at present I am still using V5.70, the last version to work with windowsXP the next version is 64-bit and cannot work with XP. Some people say scripts or setfiles are not required, well, the program can be used, if carefully set up, out of the box but the scripts (for Jaws) make it easier.

Re: re goldwave
Usually with sound Forge you have to enter a registration license key to save files as MP3's. you only get one shot at it, so if you used the registration code already in a previous install, you can't use it again. Symbian is an operating system that runs on quite a few smartphones, especially from Nokia. Series 60 is a flavor of the Symbian operating system. Talks was originally a screen reader that ran on the Symbian operating system. Now with the Ozone, it also runs on the Windows Mobile platform. Re: re mp3gain
Hi. Hope the following is of some use. Using MP3GAIN To Set A Selection Of Tracks To the Same Volume 1.. To select all tracks in a given folder: 1.. Press control + D to open the Add Folder dialogue 2.. Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the folders on your hard drive 3.. Use the right arrow key to open the folder you wish to select tracks from. Note that, sub folders will be selected within that folder 4.. When the required folder has been opened using the right arrow key, tab to OK and press enter 5.. You will now be returned to the previous list of selected tracks which will now show all of the tracks found under the folder you selected 2.. To select specific files from a number of different folders: 1.. Press control + F to open the Add File dialogue 2.. Press shift + tab twice to get to the open folder combo box 3.. Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the folders on your hard drive to locate the folder in which your required track can be found 4.. Press enter to open the folder and then tab into the file and folder list 5.. Continue to press enter and use the up and down arrow keys until the list of tracks is displayed 6.. Use the up and down arrow keys to locate the specific track required 7.. Press enter when the required track has been located 8.. You will now be returned to the track listing which will show the track you selected. Note that, if you know the path of the file you require, you can short cut some of these steps by keying the file name directly rather than navigating through the lists of folders as described here. 3.. To set all selected tracks to the same volume, press control + G. Note that this will set all tracks to a target volume of 89 which is a reasonable volume for older tracks in particular to prevent possible clipping. If a different volume level is required, tab to the volume edit box and enter your preferred value. Re: re mp3gain
Hi Brian. We may have different versions of the program as mine certainly doesn't make any sound when complete. When the volume setting is in action, the cancel button comes to focus and disappears when the job is complete. You can also tab into the list of tracks and see what the new volume has been set to. If a track shows no volume change then it hasn't yet been processed. You might want to tab into the list to see why it isn't doing a great job with the two files you mentioned. I've never had any problems with it and never found anything as good for setting volumes of MP3 files. It is accurate to within 1.5 DB so maybe you're hearing the difference because one file is nearly 1.5 DB higher than the other. Regards. Re: re mp3gain
Hi Kevin and Brian. Actually, with at least the most recent version there is an option for "beep when finished." I more or less tripped over it by accident. Just hit alt+F, arrow right three times, then arrow down until you hear "beep when finished." It's a check box, so just check it and you're good to go. RE: re sonata
Hi Joe, I'm assuming this is an internet radio product of some type. Exactly how does it work? Where do you get it? Can it be set up without sighted assistance? How easy and accessible is it to use? What does it cost? What else do I need to know? I've been wanting an internet radio for some time but have not felt sure about making the move. I do sometimes listen to stations on the computer and have a Pandora account but a dedicated radio where I can select favorites and setup presets would really be nice. I'm a bigband fan and that music is not readily available except from more obscure stations on the internet. I intend to Google it but today is the first I've heard of it so just haven't had time yet. Thanks so much. Hi Jo, Please don't give up and throw away your credits, if you feel audible are not providing you suitable support, then contact someone higher up in audible or perhaps an independant body to help you. Re: re audible
As far as I can tell, the so-called accessible site is just a page that was created as a work-around for the 3 items with the new submenus at the top of the regular home page, namely, your greeting, Library, and Shop Audible. The accessible page displays the links that you would find on these submenus if they worked consistently with your screen reader. Unfortunately, these submenus do not work consistently with a screen reader even when you follow the spoken instructions. This is why it is necessary to use the accessible page. If you want to use all of the features of Audible though, you will need to use both the regular home page and the accessible page, whichever works best in a particular situation. Also, be aware that on the regular home page, the My Library link is now shortened to Library; on some other Audible pages, it is still displayed as My Library. The only problems I've had with downloading books are slower download speeds and quite a few stops and restarts. The "Search For A Good Book" edit box on the regular home page usually finds what I'm searching for using the title, key words or author. to delete, use the i for left side and o for the right side which highlights between them. You can change the characteristics of the normalization by changing the amount of attack and release time in MS, and whether or not RMS values are used or "peak" value. Hi. Why are you increasing the bit rate from 128 to 320? RE: re switch
Hi. strictly speaking no, not in the file itself. A 128kbs quality file will always be a 128kbs quality file. You can downgrade from 128kbs but if you do that, you will never get a 128kbs quality again for that file. However what you can do is improve the quality of the reproduction in playback. If you play your music on the PC via a hi-fi system, you can dramatically improve the quality of the sound by using a DAC but they can be expensive, depending on just how much you are willing to pay for better quality. I always play my music from the PC through a DAC as it makes a huge difference. RE: re switch
Hi. What contents do the files have? Is it music, or spoken word? If it is the spoken word then you could try reducing the bit rate and see if that will play because the spoken word doesn't have to be at 128kbs. On the other hand, if it is music then I don't really know the answer to that question. Have you tried converting a file from say, 320kbs to 128kbs and then played it?
