I apologize for sending a link to an article. This involves use of a pc with a

The producer of SAM broadcaster, Spatial, has information about how to make the

Thank you for contacting SAM VIBE Support.
SAM Broadcaster is not screen reader compatible. The accessible features will
only apply to SAM Vibe. The DJ seats when released will be limited to
 streaming on SAM Vibe platform.
The external streaming option will allow people to stream content through
ordinary every day shout cast and ice cast servers.
The delay experienced between the point where the DJ talks and the listener
hears will be around 5 minutes give or take a few seconds.
When the new DJ seat system is tested,
Traditionally the delay is tied to the bit rate of the broadcaster.

Does anyone have experience with the accessibility of SAM Broadcaster? The
staion will likely make Window Eyes available or with some help could use NVDA

Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about the spelling, you're talking about Jonathan, he's from
New Zealand, a lot of sheep out there so if in doubt just write Sheep, Lamb
Chop etc and everyone will know exactly whom you're referring to smile.

Seriously though, it very well may be that a tutorial or something similar may
have been done on Sam and I'll investigate this myself, I use dJay for the Mac
but want to get something for Windows, up until now I had pretty much made up
my mind to purchase Station Playlist however Sam has some incredibly powerful
features which I'd like to take advantage of.

For example, you can let your listeners into your library via a HTML web page
and they personally select what they want to hear and Sam does the rest.

Jonathan uses Station Playlist and was involved in creating Jaws scripts for
it along with Brian Hartgen.

Brian has looked at accessability of Sam but after this discussion started I
asked him about it and he reported that it is far from accessable.

Check out Brian's site on SPL and Jaws.

I wouldn't worry about the spelling, you're talking about Jonathan, he's
from New Zealand, a lot of sheep out there so if in doubt just write Sheep,
Lamb Chop etc and everyone will know exactly whom you're referring to
smile.

Seriously though, it very well may be that a tutorial or something similar
may have been done on Sam and I'll investigate this myself, I use dJay for
the Mac but want to get something for Windows, up until now I had pretty
much made up my mind to purchase Station Playlist however Sam has some
incredibly powerful features which I'd like to take advantage of.

For example, you can let your listeners into your library via a HTML web
page and they personally select what they want to hear and Sam does the
rest.

Sam Broadcaster DJ Software

I’m trying to help the guy who runs the internet station that I am part of he

Station Playlist.
Is Sam Broadcaster useable by VIPs and is there anyone on here that uses it to
broadcast or run a station. Not just Sam Encoders, I mean the full blown

I heard the Sam DJ thing, which is the lite one they use for their own service
is, not sure about the full-fledged version. I wonder why some stations out
there insist on it? Is there stuff in it that Station Playlist wouldn't have? I
suppose if their site is integrated with Sam's request feature it would be hard

2009-05-24 Thread stewart ross
ok hears a tricky one i am having trouble using sam broadcaster running
windows 2000 on a separate machine and jaws 8.0
the problem is that wen i load sam brodcaster, and wen i go to tab through
the different windows, its not reading all the information out to me, nor is
it reading out the list of tracks that are in a playlist, to read the tracks
u have to use the arrow keys,
however, wen i use my other pc with the same sam broadcaster on, and jfw,
but a different operating system which is xp, its all working no problem,

has anyone come up against this problem, and is there a fix for it?

I've been trying to do that since SAM BC V2, and V5 is now supposedly
in the offing, so you can imagine how far I've been able to get.
You're right if you guessed not very. The problem is the Delfi
interface, with which JAWS of any version just does not seem to work.
Funny, though, Window-Eyes seems to have no trouble with it
whatsoever. Fo figya!

shoutcast and sam broadcaster

2007-12-24 Thread Tyler Wood
Hi, all

I'm currently using sam broadcaster and shoutcast to try and do a radio show.
I'm behind a router. I've forwarded the required ports-- 8000 to 8001. I have a
redirecting software installed; no-IP duc. I also have sam set to play a cue of
files, then stop. But people can't connect to it. I'm not sure what else to do.
I've tried reinstalling both programs; the shoutcast server and the sam
broadcasting program, with no go. I'm not sure what else to do. Firewalls and
stuff are turned off, I have both sam and shoutcast configured the same; both
have port 8000. I've also got the password syncrinized. I'm not sure what to do.

any ideas?

Re: Revised Message on Sam Broadcaster Tutorial

2007-05-21 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
I've been wanting to set up a site for people to download mp3 programs and
podcasts, also the site should have streaming music. Sorry for taking this
thread over slightly, but looking at your recommendations I am curious as
to how they would affect my venture.
I'm not skilled in this area and on investigation, I'm coming up against too
much information which I'm having difficulty processing. My site should have
a download area for programs, but also a streaming music/radio station
ability. A forum and donation section too.
Ready to build sites are hopefully what I would use (accessible if
possible). But when I try hosting firms they say bandwidth is possibly a
problem. Is it wise to stream music from a download site or should the two
be separate? Also is there a difference between a normal site and a
streaming site? I've also seen tools which take a playlist and upload the
files to a site from where they can be played.
Also in the UK what is the position concerning licencing if music is
streamed or included in downloadable programmes or podcasts?
I know a good bit about audio and audio production but all the above baffles
me. Would someone who has the time please explain basic steps as to how I
should go about the above project, perhaps making suggestions. I appreciate
this could be a major task, but I assure you I'm only looking for a coherent
path into it all from which I'll hopefully see some light.
Thanks.

Subject: Sam Broadcaster Tutorial

 Hi all,
Does anyone know of any audio tutorials on setting up Sam Broadcaster
with JAWS? It looks like it can crush winamp in the broadcasting
department. Does anyone have information otherwise, or as I said
instructions/tutorials in whatever format to get it up and running?
 Thanks

Re: Revised Message on Sam Broadcaster Tutorial

2007-05-20 Thread jazzjourneys.org
I am beginning to wonder is anyone out there hearing me. I have mentioned on
a couple of occasions that we use SAM Broadcaster on
our Interet-Only Jazz Radio Station located at, (www.TheJazzy1.com) for a
while with very excellent results.

While the jury is still out to lunch on the company itself,
www.SpacialAudio.com , I think that SAM Broadcaster is a terrific
Autiomation Software.

We began our streaming operations using SAM 3 and stream our music in WMA
(Windows Media Audio) thru SpacialAudio's www.AudioStream.com,
but found it difficult to reach anyone at the company in a timely manner.

However, we switched to another streaming company, www.StreamTheWorld.com,
but kept automating our music thru SAM Broadcaster with better results,
since www.StreamTheWorld.com streams in Flash Format, which allows us to
reach more listeners.

My suggestion is to go to www.SpacialAudio.com to download there Help
Manual. There you will find all the tutorials you will need to stream in a
number of formats.

Is anyone there? If so HOLLA BACK.
Earle

Earle, I am located in Birmingham UK. My station hasn't started streaming yet
but I hope to begin this week. How do you stream? It has been suggested to me
that windows incoda is good - what do you think? Others have mentioned
shoutcast and live 365. Which gives the least amount of buffering?

George:
Yes, we use SAM all the time. We use it a combination of ways. Initially, we
set up a number of catagories
for the music and let it run on auto. Currently, we are in the process of
creating our own playlists and programming
the music ourselves so that we can better control of the music.

I am glad you visited our station on the website and liked what you heard
and saw, however, this is just phase 1. We
have an number of enhancements coming over the next few months.

By the way, where are you located?

I sent out a post a few week ago about SAM Broadcaster and our experience
 with it.
As I mentioned previously, the software appears to be a very good one,
 especially considering the price.

Prior to using SAM, we had investigated a number of Autimation Software
 and
 Scheduling Programs, and
while most of them were very expensive, we found that SAM did almost
everything that the others were doing.
We also found that the expensive software programs are being used by many
 of
 the terrestial radio stations.

The one major draw back that we had with SAM is that although it is fairly
easy to use, from time to time, it is very
difficult to reach someone from SpacialAudio to trobleshoot and problems
that you may encounter with SAM. The
company doesn't seem to respond on the telephone in a timely fashion. They
will eventually contact you through email,
but there will be times when you will need to speak to live person, in
 'real
time' and this presents a major problem when
you are running a 24-hr radio station such as our Jazz Internet Radio
 Station, www.thejazzy1.com

You should have received an on-line manual with the program. If not, visit
the SpacialAudio website and look in their 'help'
section and you will find it there for you to download. If you need any
additional help, let me know, but I don't deal with
SpacialAudio any more. I can't take the frustrations anymore.

Re: sam broadcaster?

2007-03-24 Thread jazzjourneys.org
David:
We have an Internet Jazz Radio Station www.TheJazzy1.com that uses SAM
Broadcaster.
In the beginning we were using it through Spacial Audio and their streaming
company, AudioRealm.
However, we encountered a number of problems which we though we the fault of
the SAM Broadcaster,
but it took Spacial Audio about 10 days to get back with us to troubleshoot
the problem, only to find out that
the problem was not with SAM Broadcaster. After that, we dropped their
streaming services. Signed up with another
atreaming company and switched internet service Providers and now we have no
problems. While I think the SAM Broadcaster
is a excellent Automation and Scheduling Software, I don't reccommend the
company that supports and stream the music through it.

If you're asking how to use it, how do you know how good it is?

The only thing SAM BC can do that other more accessible packages can't
is it's back-ended by SQL technology rather than a home-grown database
engine. Otherwise, for the money, Station Playlist does the same
thing, but better.

I will, though, have to give credit where credit is due. Spacial
Audio (and that's not a misspelling for those of you who know that the
word spatial is spelled with a t) invented a programming language,
very geeky and full of lots of tokens and keywords and geeky stuff
like that, to control their software, which other products don't seem
to have a need for.

On the minus side, SAM's event scheduler is an extra-cost program.

Now let's talk accessibility.

I've been using, or attempting to use, SAM BC since version 2. Along
with improvements in their screen layout have come improvements in
screenreader technology, so now, SAM BC Version 4 and Window-Eyes V5.5
seem to go together quite nicely. JAWS still has a lot of problems
with the Delphi-based screen forms and layouts which W.E. does not.
Other than standard menu controls, there is not a single control on
the main screen of SAM that either JAWS or Window-Eyes recognizes as a
standard windows control. That being said, however, most of what
Window-Eyes calls custom controls operate as list boxes, but even with
re-classing in JAWS, it's still not right.

SAM's category management system needs a little work, too. They give
you the ability to have two levels of category, one within another,
that is, but they don't allow you to reference a track by using an
outer-level category name. For example, I have a category called
top40, within which I have three subcategories--artists and albums
(which I've abbreviated to AA), 1hit, and instrumentals. I cannot
tell SAM to play me tracks from top40, or even top40.* (standard SQL
syntax for a key matching a top-level hierarchy and any sub-level)
because the inner categories do not roll up into the outer-level
one. I've argued this back and forth and forth and back with Louis
Louw, Spacial Audio's head programmer, and he says it's coming up in a
future version.

Another thing that SAM has trouble with is something that's so easy to
do in Station Playlist, one wonders why SAM just didn't take the same
approach, and that is, marking the intro and outro points for tracks.
With Station Playlist, you can move a pointer along a timeline and
press a button to hear the marked point in the track, then press
another button to lock it into place. With SAM, you have to enter in
the exact time in minutes and seconds that you want the points to be
stored at. Let me just say here that if there exists in SAM the
ability to move a pointer along a time line like there is in SPL, then
I haven't found out how to do it yet, but it sure would make things
easier and faster, especially with a 50,000-track database.

I'm almost to the point where I feel confident enough to use it for a
live interactive show, but almost.

The sound processing presets that SAM comes with are very good.
They've done a lot of work in cleaning up their audio processing over
the versions, and now I can honestly say I like it. Their crossfading
controls are much easier to use, too.

2007-03-21 Thread Steve Matzura
Hi, Hank:

On Wed, 21 Mar 2007 15:36:48 -0700, you wrote:

there crossfaiding isn't as tight as stationplaylist though

It can be made to be.

other then that it isn't a bad program. only thing I couldn't figure out is
how to schedule stuff to fire off at the top of the hour etc stuff like
that.

That's where you need the MusicOne (also known as M1) add-on. You can
do some of it yourself with a PAL script, but the right way, of
course, is to have a real scheduling module, which is what M1 is. But
it's extra money!

Sam broadcaster v3 and live voice

2005-11-16 Thread Ml88
Hi all!
I'am a newbie of this list... I would like to use Sam broadcaster version 3 to
broadcast my voice over the music.
So I go in the Window menù and I click on voice fx, but when I click mic
on and then I press the f12 key Sam doesn't put down the volume of music, it
put down the volume only for one second when I release the key. Why? what can I
do?
also... I don't have two sound cards, can you suggest me a program that allow
to broadcast music and voice? Music from sound card, voice from line in... it
is possible without having the problem of Jaws that speaks?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Sam broadcaster v3 and live voice

2005-11-16 Thread Reese
Hi there:

I found Sam to be inaccessible in some areas with speech. For this reason I
found station playlist to work better for live broadcasting.
As for jaws coming through the sound card. Best to get a hardware
synthesizer. Not sure about the line out jack possibilities there. But I
am sure one of the more experience broadcasters here can answer that
question.

Hi there:

I found Sam to be inaccessible in some areas with speech. For this reason I
found station playlist to work better for live broadcasting.
As for jaws coming through the sound card. Best to get a hardware
synthesizer. Not sure about the line out jack possibilities there. But I
am sure one of the more experience broadcasters here can answer that
question.

I'm a newbie of this list... I would like to use Sam broadcaster version 3
to broadcast my voice over the music.
So I go in the Window menù and I click on voice fx, but when I click
mic on and then I press the f12 key Sam doesn't put down the volume of
music, it put down the volume only for one second when I release the key.
Why? what can I do?
also... I don't have two sound cards, can you suggest me a program that
allow to broadcast music and voice? Music from sound card, voice from line
in... it is possible without having the problem of Jaws that speaks?

Subject: Accessability of Sam Broadcaster Program and its usability for
 Blind People

 Hello Spacial Audio.com and List!

When I purchased Sam Broadcaster, I was led to believe it was one of the
most usable and exciting broadcasting programs around. However, as soon
as I opened it up, I found out that it is pretty tough for a blind person
to use. I was a bit perplexed at this because it does pretty much what
other similar programs do and those programs seem to be able to make their
programs accessable for all people. Even Winamp, a free program, makes an
effort to make their programs useful to all.

Well, I even signed up for your streaming service, but got nowhere with
signing up for the program and using it. I had to cancel my subscription
because I could not use your program to sign up. I could get a sighted
person to click on the moving screen to get things done, but this option
is not always available to me. Anyway, I want to get it done myself.

I am not sure why the design is what it is, as all I and other blind
people want is to be able to set up and manipulate our play lists, connect
to the server, play music and/or talk on the radio, and enjoy the program
 like anyone else.

I am always surprised at companies wo say, We are a small company and are
not interested in making our program useful to all. Programmers write
code and it is no easier or harder to write one like yours than it is to
write one using conventional methods. the real question is why doesn''
your company feel it is advantageous to make your program accessale to
blind people, since blind people are one of the major groups who use such
programs. I have purchased Sam Broadcaster on a four-month installment
program. I am wondering should I take back my money and try another
program or give you an opportunity to make the program useful to me.

I like the way your auto dj works (easy), but that is where it stops.
Even the microphone feature and talk feature are not usable, as I can't
find them. My wife can because she can see, but this does not help me,
especially when she is away. My wife is beautiful and helpful, but she
cannot read for me when she is in downtown Los Angeles working or sleeping
o taking a shower, when I need something done with your program. I want
to be able to use it.

From what I know, the Delphi system is the culprit, as it is designed to
have things moving on the screen that sighted people can just point a
mouse at and click and things work. A database and playlist can be made
accessible and does not have to be floating. You can have things on the
screen and make them work similar to other windows features.

You know, XM Radio, a similarly small company, also had a weird setup,
whereby blind people could not see the screen with screen readers; yet
they worked with us and now their site is usable. They have edit screens
and boxes and the features are true, so we can find hem with our cursor
and/or mouse keys. I am not asking you to change your program for me or
other blind people, just make it accessible. Put all of your featuresd in
a menu section so we can use them (text file type). In othr words, give
me line command capability or menu driven features that do everything from
the keyboard as sighted people can do with the mouse. For example, if I
want to search for a song, give me a command way to do this (edit field
for search menu item; then tab to go and have a box where the song shows
up to be played.). Mike set up (put it in the menus and I can set it
there and check or uncheck it to make it work). You can easily make all
of your screen features doable in your menu structure. In other words, if
you wish, make an accessible version, which a blind person could invoke
through your configuration menu item. You could alsomake your program
available to screen reader companies to plan for it.

I have heard that this company is not interested in working with the blind
users of the program to make your program usable. If this is the case, it
is unfortunate. However, it it is the case, then let me know and I can
take my money back and move onto a program that will work for me. I like
Sam Broadcaster, but only if I can use all

I heard it isn't accessible. I was always curious what the Wolf FM guy uses,
as he's got a nice setup with the song info in the player, which I heard is
sort of required if one wanted to get licensed anyways, to my understanding.
Wonder if the sam encoders for winamp are accessible for media player?
Spacial audio is well-known for being able to integrate with that stuff, and
it will do requests live. It's a shame that they didn't build accessibility
in.

Haven't tried it, but it's a possibility. Thing is, once you click
the hotspot, you've got to be able to read what pops up, and JAWS and
Delphi just don't play together very well for you to do that.

Hi there:

Thanks for writing that letter to the makers of the Sam DJ Broadcaster
program. Everything that you state that is wrong with this program from a
blind persons point of view is right on.
Until they make changes that will make this program more accessible to us,
its best you try out station playlist and station playlist creator.
I have yet to figure out how to create several schedules with it yet
however.

Wonder then what wolffm is using? I think they do some of the stuff sam
boasts of with syndicated shows, and they use media player, in the abbacast
plugin. You get the info in media player when using it this way of what's on
and the like. It seems that Sam has gotten so popular lately.

SAM is virtually inaccessible with JAWS, slightly less virtually
inaccessible (that is, slightly more accessible) with Window-Eyes.
This is because of the screen-drawing package they are using, called
Delphi, which uses hot-spots and other kinds of movable objects for
sighted folks to click and make things happen. Some of the
on-screen controls are recognized by Window-Eyes, but a friend and I
have not really gotten far enough with it for either of us to say
we're comfortable using it to broadcast with or do a live gig with.

And before you go thinking that maybe the manufacturer should hear
from us as a user group, don't waste your time, unless you really feel
like taking on a project that will require a Herculean effort on your
part and staying power like you never thought you had. My friend and
I have both been told twice now that Spacial Audio is not interested
in re-writing their screen stuff so that we can use it, they're a
small company, they don't have the resources, blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah. Mind you, they were very nice about saying blah blah blah,
but that's all we got was yackity yack, blah blah, blah blah, thank
you very much now please go away. A fine attitude, doncha think?
