accessibility of SAM Broadcaster
I apologize for sending a link to an article. This involves use of a pc with a screen reader to access software for broadcasting on the radio. The producer of SAM broadcaster, Spatial, has information about how to make the product accessible at it's web site.

Its a start at least. On 8 Mar 2014, at 1:23 pm, Peter Scanlon sca...@tpg.com.au wrote: Here is reply from Spacial on this. Thank you for contacting SAM VIBE Support. SAM Broadcaster is not screen reader compatible. The accessible features will only apply to SAM Vibe. The DJ seats when released will be limited to streaming on SAM Vibe platform. The external streaming option will allow people to stream content through ordinary every day shout cast and ice cast servers. The delay experienced between the point where the DJ talks and the listener hears will be around 5 minutes give or take a few seconds. When the new DJ seat system is tested, Traditionally the delay is tied to the bit rate of the broadcaster. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane

I wouldn't worry about the spelling, you're talking about Jonathan, he's from New Zealand, a lot of sheep out there so if in doubt just write Sheep, Lamb Chop etc and everyone will know exactly whom you're referring to smile. Seriously though, it very well may be that a tutorial or something similar may have been done on Sam and I'll investigate this myself, I use dJay for the Mac but want to get something for Windows, up until now I had pretty much made up my mind to purchase Station Playlist however Sam has some incredibly powerful features which I'd like to take advantage of. Jonathan has a new book available, you can read a review and get more information at https://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw150205, I'm sure many people may find Jonathan's new title both an invaluable resource and an eye opener - pardon the very bad pun -. Yes I do, its unfortunate but the way the software is written prevents any meaningful accessibility to be incorporated into the software. I've been trying to do that since SAM BC V2, and V5 is now supposedly in the offing, so you can imagine how far I've been able to get. You're right if you guessed not very. The problem is the Delfi interface, with which JAWS of any version just does not seem to work. Funny, though, Window-Eyes seems to have no trouble with it whatsoever. Fo figya! shoutcast and sam broadcaster
Hi, all I'm currently using sam broadcaster and shoutcast to try and do a radio show. I'm behind a router. I've forwarded the required ports-- 8000 to 8001. I have a redirecting software installed; no-IP duc. I also have sam set to play a cue of files, then stop. But people can't connect to it. I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried reinstalling both programs; the shoutcast server and the sam broadcasting program, with no go. I'm not sure what else to do. Firewalls and stuff are turned off, I have both sam and shoutcast configured the same; both have port 8000. I've also got the password syncrinized. I'm not sure what to do. any ideas? Re: Revised Message on Sam Broadcaster Tutorial
Hi I've been wanting to set up a site for people to download mp3 programs and podcasts, also the site should have streaming music. Sorry for taking this thread over slightly, but looking at your recommendations I am curious as to how they would affect my venture. I'm not skilled in this area and on investigation, I'm coming up against too much information which I'm having difficulty processing. My site should have a download area for programs, but also a streaming music/radio station ability. A forum and donation section too. Ready to build sites are hopefully what I would use (accessible if possible). But when I try hosting firms they say bandwidth is possibly a problem. Is it wise to stream music from a download site or should the two be separate? Also is there a difference between a normal site and a streaming site? I've also seen tools which take a playlist and upload the files to a site from where they can be played. Also in the UK what is the position concerning licencing if music is streamed or included in downloadable programmes or podcasts? I know a good bit about audio and audio production but all the above baffles me. Would someone who has the time please explain basic steps as to how I should go about the above project, perhaps making suggestions. I appreciate this could be a major task, but I assure you I'm only looking for a coherent path into it all from which I'll hopefully see some light. Thanks. Re: sam broadcaster?
David: We have an Internet Jazz Radio Station www.TheJazzy1.com that uses SAM Broadcaster. In the beginning we were using it through Spacial Audio and their streaming company, AudioRealm. However, we encountered a number of problems which we though we the fault of the SAM Broadcaster, but it took Spacial Audio about 10 days to get back with us to troubleshoot the problem, only to find out that the problem was not with SAM Broadcaster. After that, we dropped their streaming services. Signed up with another atreaming company and switched internet service Providers and now we have no problems. While I think the SAM Broadcaster is a excellent Automation and Scheduling Software, I don't reccommend the company that supports and stream the music through it. The only thing SAM BC can do that other more accessible packages can't is it's back-ended by SQL technology rather than a home-grown database engine. Otherwise, for the money, Station Playlist does the same thing, but better. I will, though, have to give credit where credit is due. Spacial Audio (and that's not a misspelling for those of you who know that the word spatial is spelled with a t) invented a programming language, very geeky and full of lots of tokens and keywords and geeky stuff like that, to control their software, which other products don't seem to have a need for. On the minus side, SAM's event scheduler is an extra-cost program. Now let's talk accessibility. I've been using, or attempting to use, SAM BC since version 2. Along with improvements in their screen layout have come improvements in screenreader technology, so now, SAM BC Version 4 and Window-Eyes V5.5 seem to go together quite nicely. JAWS still has a lot of problems with the Delphi-based screen forms and layouts which W.E. does not. Other than standard menu controls, there is not a single control on the main screen of SAM that either JAWS or Window-Eyes recognizes as a standard windows control. That being said, however, most of what Window-Eyes calls custom controls operate as list boxes, but even with re-classing in JAWS, it's still not right. SAM's category management system needs a little work, too. They give you the ability to have two levels of category, one within another, that is, but they don't allow you to reference a track by using an outer-level category name. For example, I have a category called top40, within which I have three subcategories--artists and albums (which I've abbreviated to AA), 1hit, and instrumentals. I cannot tell SAM to play me tracks from top40, or even top40.* (standard SQL syntax for a key matching a top-level hierarchy and any sub-level) because the inner categories do not roll up into the outer-level one. I've argued this back and forth and forth and back with Louis Louw, Spacial Audio's head programmer, and he says it's coming up in a future version. Another thing that SAM has trouble with is something that's so easy to do in Station Playlist, one wonders why SAM just didn't take the same approach, and that is, marking the intro and outro points for tracks. With Station Playlist, you can move a pointer along a timeline and press a button to hear the marked point in the track, then press another button to lock it into place. With SAM, you have to enter in the exact time in minutes and seconds that you want the points to be stored at. Let me just say here that if there exists in SAM the ability to move a pointer along a time line like there is in SPL, then I haven't found out how to do it yet, but it sure would make things easier and faster, especially with a 50,000-track database. I'm almost to the point where I feel confident enough to use it for a live interactive show, but almost. The sound processing presets that SAM comes with are very good. They've done a lot of work in cleaning up their audio processing over the versions, and now I can honestly say I like it. Their crossfading controls are much easier to use, too. Sam broadcaster v3 and live voice
Hi all! I'am a newbie of this list... I would like to use Sam broadcaster version 3 to broadcast my voice over the music. So I go in the Window menù and I click on voice fx, but when I click mic on and then I press the f12 key Sam doesn't put down the volume of music, it put down the volume only for one second when I release the key. Why? what can I do? also... I don't have two sound cards, can you suggest me a program that allow to broadcast music and voice? Music from sound card, voice from line in... it is possible without having the problem of Jaws that speaks? Thanks in advance. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Re: Sam broadcaster v3 and live voice
Hi there: I found Sam to be inaccessible in some areas with speech. For this reason I found station playlist to work better for live broadcasting. As for jaws coming through the sound card. Best to get a hardware synthesizer. Not sure about the line out jack possibilities there. But I am sure one of the more experience broadcasters here can answer that question. When I purchased Sam Broadcaster, I was led to believe it was one of the most usable and exciting broadcasting programs around. However, as soon as I opened it up, I found out that it is pretty tough for a blind person to use. I was a bit perplexed at this because it does pretty much what other similar programs do and those programs seem to be able to make their programs accessable for all people. Even Winamp, a free program, makes an effort to make their programs useful to all. Well, I even signed up for your streaming service, but got nowhere with signing up for the program and using it. I had to cancel my subscription because I could not use your program to sign up. I could get a sighted person to click on the moving screen to get things done, but this option is not always available to me. Anyway, I want to get it done myself. I am not sure why the design is what it is, as all I and other blind people want is to be able to set up and manipulate our play lists, connect to the server, play music and/or talk on the radio, and enjoy the program like anyone else. I am always surprised at companies wo say, We are a small company and are not interested in making our program useful to all. Programmers write code and it is no easier or harder to write one like yours than it is to write one using conventional methods. the real question is why doesn'' your company feel it is advantageous to make your program accessale to blind people, since blind people are one of the major groups who use such programs. I have purchased Sam Broadcaster on a four-month installment program. I am wondering should I take back my money and try another program or give you an opportunity to make the program useful to me. I like the way your auto dj works (easy), but that is where it stops. Even the microphone feature and talk feature are not usable, as I can't find them. My wife can because she can see, but this does not help me, especially when she is away. My wife is beautiful and helpful, but she cannot read for me when she is in downtown Los Angeles working or sleeping o taking a shower, when I need something done with your program. I want to be able to use it. From what I know, the Delphi system is the culprit, as it is designed to have things moving on the screen that sighted people can just point a mouse at and click and things work. A database and playlist can be made accessible and does not have to be floating. You can have things on the screen and make them work similar to other windows features. You know, XM Radio, a similarly small company, also had a weird setup, whereby blind people could not see the screen with screen readers; yet they worked with us and now their site is usable. They have edit screens and boxes and the features are true, so we can find hem with our cursor and/or mouse keys. I am not asking you to change your program for me or other blind people, just make it accessible. Put all of your featuresd in a menu section so we can use them (text file type). In othr words, give me line command capability or menu driven features that do everything from the keyboard as sighted people can do with the mouse. For example, if I want to search for a song, give me a command way to do this (edit field for search menu item; then tab to go and have a box where the song shows up to be played.). Mike set up (put it in the menus and I can set it there and check or uncheck it to make it work). You can easily make all of your screen features doable in your menu structure. In other words, if you wish, make an accessible version, which a blind person could invoke through your configuration menu item. You could alsomake your program available to screen reader companies to plan for it. I have heard that this company is not interested in working with the blind users of the program to make your program usable. If this is the case, it is unfortunate. However, it it is the case, then let me know and I can take my money back and move onto a program that will work for me. I like Sam Broadcaster, but only if I can use all

I heard it isn't accessible. I was always curious what the Wolf FM guy uses, as he's got a nice setup with the song info in the player, which I heard is sort of required if one wanted to get licensed anyways, to my understanding. Wonder if the sam encoders for winamp are accessible for media player? Spacial audio is well-known for being able to integrate with that stuff, and it will do requests live. Hi there: Thanks for writing that letter to the makers of the Sam DJ Broadcaster program. Everything that you state that is wrong with this program from a blind persons point of view is right on. Until they make changes that will make this program more accessible to us, its best you try out station playlist and station playlist creator.
