The new Decade CM10 priced at about 200 dollars should be able to do the job for you. The Decade MS-100s is a good transmitter, however it is a little pricy at close to 600 dollars. There is a Canadian company that makes an FM transmitter that Jonathan Mosan purchased at half the price of the Decade MS-100s. The product I have--Logitech Music Anywhere, wasn't expensive at all. I got it from woot.com. It came with a transmitter, a receiver that I can plug into my stereo, external powered speakers, ..., a pair of headphones and some simple software for the PC that let's me control which receiver to send the audio to. The components, especially the headphones, aren't the highest quality, but it's easy to use and gives me digital output from my PC all over my house. I think altogether, it cost me around $60, and that was a few years ago. The sound quality, since it's digital, is superior to what I get with my FM transmitter or my wireless RF headphones. I'm not aware of a cheaper digital solution. Like I said in an earlier post, I don't think it's manufactured anymore. I haven't been shopping around, but the only product I've seen that's similar recently, is the wifi based product that was discussed earlier. I'm curious as to what you're using or what you'd recommend. Again bluetooth wasn't developed with distance in mind, and I have never seen a bluetooth device that could receive any signle clearly mor than 30 feet away, but if you think you have got one, more power to you. Now, I've heard of a bluetooth gateway used for routing bluetooth devices to a stereo system, but it didn't have much range. Personally until it's pointed out to me differently that bluetooth isn't made for short range usage,I will just as well stay away from bluetooth as my needs require a clear signle over a good distance with a mininum amount of maintenance. I think they're thinking of class 2 bluetooth which has a range of roughly 10 meters. I think this is the most common class of bluetooth and the one people think of when they think of bluetooth. Wifi generally has a greater range than that. I am looking for an fm transmitter to use with the computer. what are the best ones to consider,a nd what are the prices, and where can i buy them? please let me know. If price is no object the Broadcast Warehouse transmitters are the best. I'd guess however that you're not going to spend between 7 and 8 hundred dollars so those probably wouldn't be suitable. If you're looking at something in the one hundred dollar range or so you might consider one of the Mobileblackbox units. Also in that price range is the Wholehouse fm transmitter. For about $350 you can buy the Wavemach 100 milliwat transmitter from Wavemach.com in Canada. And of course there is always the C. Crane transmitter for $69. Different options for different price ranges so as you can see there are a lot of them and it's a matter of what you have to spend for them. I don't know about the others..but with the C-Crane transmitters, they don't get out real good right out of the box! However (at least there used to be).a screw in that thing that you can turn..and it would increase the power (I had to have it done with mine)..and it made all the difference in the world! But then..someone told me that on the one they had, that little screw could not be found! Maybe they'd re-designed them so you can't do that anymore? Does anyone know? The Wavemach unit is the best bang for the buck. A guy from Australia baught the unit, and is pleased as punch with its performance. Are there transmitter and receiver units available, i.e. dedicated receivers for these transmitters? This would be for high quality audio transmissions. Is it possible to get the same high quality audio out some of the more expensive units than you would get by transmitting through cables? I have a Wavemach also. Dave modified it for me as well. I don't know about it being the best bang for the buck but it is a good transmitter. The transmitters we're talking about work on the standard broadcast band and will work with any FM receiver. You will always get better quality running cables in theory because FM stereo is limited to 20 to 15000 hz. However unless you're talking really high end audiophile stuff you wouldn't notice the difference. Certainly the more expensive units will transmit a better sound and a cleaner signal as well. I assume you mean the Wavemach. The one I have has 2 rca jacks on the back with the ac power jack below them. Also on the back is the volume control and the antenna connector. On the front is a power button on the right and the up/down frequency controls on the left. The broadcast warehouse transmitter I have is more sophisticated but is still simple to operate. It has balanced input (XLR) connectors on the back and the antenna/power jack. On the front is a button to unlock the unit and up/down frequency controls. The Broadcast Warehouse is a rack mount unit the is actually suitable for commercial broadcasting. It has outstanding specs both for frequency response and RF purity. Both are good units but are really meant for different audiences. I just happen to be a fm transmitter junky and have a bunch of them! One further note on the Wavemach: If you found the Wavemach Ebay store there is a unit that connects via usb but I don't know much about this unit. I'd suggest going to www.wavemach.com or www.fmamplifiers.com which take you to the same place. The current version of this transmitter comes with a remote control that allows the frequency to be adjusted by pushing up and down buttons. The gain control is on the front rather than on the back. It is a good unit which you can leave on for days and weeks and the frequency will remain stable. If you buy the high gain antenna and set it up properly, it will transmit up to 300 yards without significant degradation of signal. I'd guess however that you're not going to spend between 7 and 8 hundred dollars so those probably wouldn't be suitable.
