And Why? For myself, my percentage of keepers has gone up only slightly because my standards have risen. What I might have considered a keeper before I started shooting digital, I wouldn't consider one now. While at the same time, I'm more willing to "take chances", to try and make images I wouldn't have thought I could make before ... because the few times I did try to make them I failed. I can see right away whether the image matches my vision; whether I "got the shot." And it has benefited my film shooting as well. Maybe not as many "keepers" from film as I used to get, but the ones I do get are better. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Nope wrong. The ring bayonet was not well beloved by most American soldiers from the Revolution to the Civil war. Americans didn't want to be bayoneted\, and didn't think it humane to do it to the enemy, they'd rather shoot them, even at close range. > My old DI ain't gonn'a wann'a hear that. http://www.mydfz.com/Paxton/lyrics/tbr.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU7NEOBnMVI I was, however, responding to an assertion someone made that the Swiss still carry ceremonial daggers in lieu of swords as symbols of their status as "free men" when they go to vote, and the statement that the musket serves the a role analogous to the sword in American military tradition. Marrying the two traditions; should Americans feel the need for martial symbols to bolster their courage for the daunting task of choosing representatives, the bayonet & the powder horn might stand in for the musket in the same way the ceremonial dagger stands for the sword ... less cumbersome, particularly should you need an ad hoc stylus for the Electronic Voting Machine. You don't have to actually stab anyone if you don't want to, it's just a symbol of our rough frontier heritage. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: 50mm lenses and flare
Since the fa and the Super Takumar have pretty much identical optical formulas and the FA has much improved coatings I doubt that the Tak. will be better. Re: Some sort of duck?
Welcome to the public ! The bird is a Purple Gallinule I like your shot... in the smaller version on your site... . When I enlarge it , it gets too big and partly flows off my screen... nothing to do with your photo just the site - or can you adjust the settings so one of the options is getting to see a photo that is 800 or 1000 pixels wide? I don't mind the background not being blurred out - the environment is part of the story... nice composition, yes, a bit soft ... but a nice capture for birders , who would be able to tell immediately who this guy is... Just a portrait of my medium format camera. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1604247/PESO/PESO%20--%20heratic.html Equipment: Pentax K20D/w SMC Pentax FA 43mm f21.9 Limited. Notes: Direct flash from camera pupup flash. Further notes, the Medalist II was a camera ahead of it's time. Flash sync included X (strobe), when few strobes were available, When the lens is retracted, it's not a lot bigger than the K20D yet produces 6x9 negatives on 620 spooled film. The rangefinder is very accurate and easier to get used to than that on a Leica IIIc, though I wouldn't want to use if as a stealthy street camera. The shutter is extremely quiet though. I agree, but have fun finding 127 film. That's what my first camera, a Brownie Starflash took. At least Holgas and Dianas take 120, film that's still readily available (for now at least). My mom still has my old Brownie packed away somewhere. Must dig it out next time I'm in Halifax and see if I can snap a few off! B&H has 127 film, as well as 620 & 828. Looks like their 110 is gone, but I got enough in the freezer to last the rest of my life. The Frugal Photographer has 110, 120, 126 & 127 - as well as film for your old Minox spy cameras. http://www.frugalphotographer.com/ And they have flash bulbs, flash cubes and flip flash. It was the Baby Brownie that took 127 film. You can find full size Brownies that take 620, some even take 120 without modification as well. Now I don't shoot a brownie, I a couple of Clacks, (120), that I didn't even have to buy, they were given to me, and a Kodak Medalist II, (which is decidedly not a toy camera), which takes 620 film. It's the same stock as 120 on narrower spools. I re-spool my own film, and if you've even considered a Diana then re-spooling 120 to 620 just makes it a little geekier, how much better is that? Back it up, Frank. http://www.thefreeradical.ca/Violent_crime_statistics_Canada.htm Specifically, "Violent crime rate (per 100K) change from 1962-2006: 221 to 951 or a 300%+ increase" vs. http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_04/offenses_reported/violent_crime/index.html Furthermore, the FBI is known to encourage police departments in the US to report crime statistics based on the charges filed. So if I'm charged with battery, that's what gets into the statistics. If I make a deal with the prosecutor or the charges are dismissed or I'm found not guilty, it's still in the stats as battery. I have no idea how this works in Canada, but in GB the statistics are based on the resolution. I'm sure you figure out where this leads. Your mayor has been, very publicly, pointing his finger south for a while now, blaming the US for all the guns involved in violent crime in Toronto. The fact is, there are no facts.
