IPS LCD Monitors
Howdy, folks, If any of you are in the market for LCD monitors to use in editing photos, it looks like HP has added a number of models with S-IPS panels, some at very reasonable prices. In particular, the ZR22w model is 21.5 diagonal with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It's MSRP is about US$270, but it's on sale at pcmall.com (and probably macmall.com) for US$ 200 right now. They also have the ZR24w (24, 1920 x 1200) that appears to replace the LP2475w that I have, at a better price. MRSP of about US$500, on sale now at pcmall.com for US$ 350. They also have the ZR30w (30, 2560 x 1600) for about US$ 1250. I haven't used any of these new models but I've been /very/ pleased with the LP2475w for the last couple of years. -- Thanks, DougF (KG4LMZ) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I think you can discard the two photos before the last. The last one is a keeper in my eyes. It is an interesting artistic question, of how many, and which pictures to include in a gallery. And the answer would change for the audience, for example photographers, or motorheads. I'm curious which shots other people would include in my bestest collection, whether it's only one, or all 16. Indeed. I used to be very selective when working with the shoots from Galia's class. I am unofficial official photog of the class if you know what I mean. But then people started complaining that I give them too few pictures and I had to become less selective. It seems that I reached the balance in this specific case as they appear to be happy now. Well, even here it is a tough question as I realize that among the photographers on this list there are not one and not two motorheads as you put it. I appreciate the fact that with you, a photo has to stand on its own in black and white, and color only makes it better. I find it interesting that in color it's easier to notice that the picture isn't tack sharp which I find amusing because I was just reflecting on how generally sharp all of your photos have been lately. Lightroom 2.7 question: how to edit 2 pictures side by side
Hi all, I have a set of photos I shot where the WB was set to Tungsten. Halfway through the shoot I chimped and fixed this. Pictures were all shot in jpg on my K-x. What I'd like to do is to copy the color settings from the good pictures over to the pictures that have tungsten white balance. I tried selecting the appropriate pictures and using the sync feature. No luck on that. How do you recommend I get the colors corrected and consistent? It seems like it would be very handy to be able to view 2 images (the good one and the bad one) simultaneously so that when I move the sliders around I can immediately know if I'm helping or hurting. I was able to view side-by-side images only in the library module, but not in the develop module. Am I missing something here? I've been lazy about digging out photos to share with the list. Here is my apology, in the form of a gallery of my new son, who is now 2 weeks old. What I'd like to do is to copy the color settings from the good pictures over to the pictures that have tungsten white balance. I tried selecting the appropriate pictures and using the sync feature. No luck on that. sync settings only synchronises the settings that you have applied using Lightroom. You ought to shoot raw rather than jpeg - raw does not commit you to anything in-camera. How do you recommend I get the colors corrected and consistent? I would recommend you use the white balance pipette thing to find the colour value of one of the whites in the photo you like, then apply the setting manually to the corresponding area of the photo you don't like. Because you've shot in jpeg you've lost a lot of room to manoeuvre though, depending on how different the values are right now. It seems like it would be very handy to be able to view 2 images (the good one and the bad one) simultaneously so that when I move the sliders around I can immediately know if I'm helping or hurting. I was able to view side-by-side images only in the library module, but not in the develop module. Am I missing something here? We bought a wonderful likeness of Abu that we used as a doll and puppet. For Halloween 1993, my daughter dress as Abu for 3rd grade 'Trick or Treat'-ing. Now her boss has a little girl who loves Abu, so my daughter asked for some old pictures. After rummaging in the closet for a couple of hours, I found these... (not the first 3, the rest) http://picasaweb.google.com/rf.sullivan/Abu (digital copies shot from old prints - some contrast build-up) It was a trip down memory lane when my family was young and I took many pictures of them. Thoughts after the rummaging... 1. Prints are lots easier to view than slides. My closet has thousands of both, but 75% are slides. These are now harder to view and share. I'll have to get scanning... :-( 2. Some of my best shots are really pretty good. It's a nice to compare to the posts here. (I'd love to do a 'How To' picture book for parents some day.) 3. Never underestimate the ability of photos to refresh your memories after 25 or 30 years. Lynn and I re-lived a lot of our experiences as I shared old prints. We look forward to becoming grandparents some day. :-) 4. Take lots of photos. The family will grow up quickly. You'll have the best time of your life! Bummer. This is what I was trying to do and it was painfully tedious, and very hit or miss (almost exclusively miss). In the Develop module you can use the Before / After view to see the effect of your editing on the current picture. This helps a little, but I still feel like I'm stumbling around blindly hoping to pull some lever to make a positive change. Congratulations! Funny! Thanks for posting. Is it just me, or does there seem to be a particular affinity for Candid Camera-type shows over on The Continent? And, of course, there's the Japanese equivalent, whose idea of a practical joke seems to be anything that steps just up to the line without crossing over to beheading. Isn't it great to spend some time looking over pix from the past. With the exception of the last 15 years, most of mine have disappeared over the course of many successive moves. I do have left about 2800 ft of family movies taken between 1955 and 1975 which I had scanned to DVD and gave copies to each of my kids. I hope they enjoy seeing family members they never knew as much as I enjoy revisiting them. -p On 8/20/2010 3:14 PM, Bob Sullivan wrote: No, I'm not from a family of monkeys, but my daughter wanted some old sapshots. Re: Lightroom 2.7 question: how to edit 2 pictures side by side
You can sync white settings in jpgs in Lightroom just fine. Get the white balance setting right in one photo and while still in the develop module, select the other pictures that you want to duplicate the white balance settings in. You should see your master has a whiter surround in the filmstrip than the other selected photos - this indicates that it is the master selection and any sync commands will use this photo's settings as the blueprint to apply to the others. Click the Sync button (this only appears when you have more than one photo selected) and a dialog box will come up. Check the settings you want to sync - in this case the white balance, and leave the others boxes unchecked and then hit 'Synchronise' and it's done! Easy and saves heaps of time. You can synch any develop settings this way Alastair On Sat, Aug 21, 2010 at 8:53 AM, Bob Sullivan rf.sulli...@gmail.com wrote: Congratulations on the new family member. Re: PESO -- Circular Waterfall
1.) Then I guess this lens isn't for you then. 2.) Not to contradict, however the red isn't actually at the Horizon, it's at the border of the pond, and I believe that was mulch, and a red snow fence, that doesn't show up at this resolution as anything other than a red smear. Now you have to think it must be nice to be able to put redwood mulch around the entire periphery of a large pond, I figure the Parks Department got a deal. 3.) The only place that there's actual Horizon, is in the upper left hand quadrant, (sky/treetop), and that actually looks kind of purple, don't you think? Not that this lens doesn't exhibit a lot of CA, transitions in full size images, under the right circumstances, as you approach the edges and corners of the frame, look like rainbows, and even under the best circumstances you can't get rid of it, but in the web size image it's almost unnoticeable.
