Re: Grantley
What I meant to say, before some of what I typed got deleted somehow, was that this was the third weekend that our Rotary Club was collecting money at a local shopping center to aid the local homeless program and the food bank. When I showed up to do my shift it turned out that I was replacing my old friend Grantley, whom I hadn't seen for a while, so I took a photo to document our little reunion. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=16697000 Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola On Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 11:55 PM, wrote: >> This afternoon, I replaced my old >> friend Grantley, pictured in this image. > > > > So what did you replace him with ? > > Kenneth Waller > http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller > > - Original Message - From: "Daniel J. Re: PESO - Shop 'Til You Drop - the culprits (caution: messenger content)
Illegal in the sense that racing on city streets is against the law. This is done in live traffic, not a closed course. What they're doing is Street Racing, which carries a hefty fine and immediate impoundment of the vehicle (at least for cars - don't know if they can do for bikes). If a cyclist is stopped for a traffic infraction (as one was during this race - twice!) one ~never~ admits they are racing. Ever. That's one of the reasons that these things are not advertised with (for instance) posters. Don't want to be tipping anyone off to give the authorities the chance to shut us down. PESO - Pre-race Strategy: Dale and Yuriy (messenger content)
So, last weeks race, the Shop 'Til You Drop Alleycat, started inside the largest downtown mall in Toronto, the Eaton Centre. Details of the race are kept secret until the last minute; manifests with the checkpoints are handed out about five minutes before the start. Racers have very little time to figure out exactly where the checkpoints are (in this case they were all grocery stores) and route themselves accordingly. I know when I raced the routing sometimes changed mid-race. Some like to do this on their own, others work together as Dale and Yuriy are doing here: http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2012/12/pre-race-strategy-dale-and-yuriy.html?m=1 Hope you enjoy. And yes I've set all the configuration bits on it so it doesn't turn off. It has a new stunt. You know how the vertical angle of the head can be set, and you press the button on the side to change the angle? It no longer permanently clicks in. It has some sort of a detent, but you don't have to bother pressing the grey button on the side of the head to readjust it. As soon as I can afford it, I'm buying a Metz. I've had the same two issues: 1. AF-540 would not stay in the manual mode after being powered off. IIRC, in order to use it in the manual mode, one needs to switch the camera to the "M" mode, or something like that... 2. The one I had also came with the defective tilt control: Sometimes It was hard to get it out of thelooking forward position, - because the button on the side was stuck and not releasing the lock. I returned it within 30 days and got the Metz. In the past year, 40-50% of time, I 've been shotting with that Metz in "A" mode (the reast being P-TTL), especially when at home and shooting with the light bouncing of the ceiling or the back wall. It does the work reasonably well. My biggest compaint about the Metz is the bad ergonomics of controls: to switch between modes, or two enable/disable the secondary small flash, one has to go to the menu and click a few times. I wish there were buttons/switches for that as it is done in P-AF-540. Igor Wait a minute. My plans for Saturday got disrupted, so I drove up there today. Beautiful work. I can't write well enough to do it justice, so I'll just say if you ever get the chance to visit the museum, it's worth doing. Not only the famous photos, but showing how he set them up; plus color photography I don't think many people know about. He also did audio recordings & 16mm cine. I only saw one inkjet print in the whole exhibit. Everything else was "Gelatin Silver Bromide" & "Color Coupler Photograph" - which looked to me like color reversal prints direct from the transparencies. He made all his shots with two cameras & it seems like he was using Ektachrome64 daylight in one of them a lot of the time. His equipment and darkroom have been donated to the museum, and there are boxes of the film he used. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

With K-7, when I look at the photos (View mode), - if I turn the camera, the orientation of the photo changes accordingly (similarly to how it happens with iPads, iPhones, Android devices, etc.) My K-5 IIs doesn't do that. I did enable "change orientation" in the menu, which I believe makes sure that the photos taken in the portrait orientation are displayed that way, and that works. Re: Question about one feature of K-5.
AFAIK, the K-5 lacks that feature over the K-7, so I bet the K-5 II does the same. I believe that's meant to prevent 'unstable' pics when looking at them with camera in hand and connected to TV. At least, that's what I thought when somebody asked me that some time ago. With the K-5 (and K-5II) you have to decide: set camera for using the whole screen (i.e. not rotating pics) when you look at them in hand, and set camera for rotating portrait pics when using a TV. I agree with Christine. On first glance I liked the basics but the colour wasn't doin' it for me. A b&w could emphasize that atmospheric quality. The architectural structure is really fine.
