Re: Enablement - Sima 100mm f2.0 Macro! And T-Mount Question
Speaking of which I've a Hoya Zoom Close Up Lens which is attached to a (regular for Pentax) 49 mm filter thread. It is indeed a zoom macro attachment that produces effect similar to the one that Mark has shown. I don't use it, so if you have a good protective 52 mm UV filter, I'd gladly exchange with you. Boris On 8/2/2013 5:39 AM, Mark C wrote: I'm always questing for the best macro gear, and this Sima 100 f2 lens just might be it! http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/2013/08/01/sima-100-f2-macro-lens?blog=9 Or not... That's the SIma on K-5...a few minutes walking around the yard this evening. I've been watching for one of these for a while on eBay and picked up this one for just over $40. It came with a bunch of photographic odds and ends of which there are about a dozen decent quality filters (Red, Yellow, CPL, ND4, etc etc) so I feel like I got a pretty good deal. This is a T-Mount lens and came with a Canon mount. I ordered a T2 to K mount adapter which arrived today but does not fit the lens. As I fiddled with it I dimly recalled having some sort of T mount adapter on hand, and remarkably found it. It fits but the mounting screws for it are missing. I have it taped to the lens. The T Mount that works is simply marked "Adapter for K/M". Any idea what the proper designation of this kind of T Mount would be? I looked on B&H and eBay, but only see the T-2 mounts. The black electrical tape I used works pretty well, but I'd like to get a properly mounted adapter. Re: some Lightroom 5 play
Yep, what Bruce said. The manual option is still and excellent tool, and it's still around in Lightroom 5. With LR 5 you'll get the option to do a bit of automatic work (which I think is very good) and manual tweaking. Try it. What's great about LR is you can experiment away, then with one quick click, you can reset the photo back to it's original state. RE: some Lightroom 5 play
I'll give that a try, seem to be learning a lot about LR lately. Not getting too many photos up for viewing though I was taking a look at this (http://hackaday.com/2013/07/23/polishing-optics-milled-from-acrylic/), might put new optics in the junk 28-80 Pentax lens I got (just for the mounting ring, which is another story.) Re: some Lightroom 5 play
Hallo Christine, I've been using LR5 for some time now and found some minor problems here and there. Little bugs that I worked around—like some weirdnesses editing overlays in the Print module, an odd bug when importing from a source that contained PNGs and any .XMP files, etc. Adobe has released Lightroom 5.2 Release Candidate with some new camera support and bug fixes. I've been working with it for a few days now ... they've fixed every bug I found and a few I didn't know about! It seems ever so slightly snappier in operation than 5.0 as well (at least on my system). Definitely update to that, and to the release when it comes out. http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom5-2/ The new tools for rectilinear corrections and the radial filter are fantastic, I've used them quite a lot. The improvements to the spotting tool are also very very good: I've been shooting a good bit of film lately and the spotting tool is especially handy when cleaning up a massive 6x6 film scan. Re: Peso - Up, Up and away
That's a nice first gallery with the K5, Ann. Love the graceful composition of the yellow and blue umbrellas. Lately, I've been thinking about shoring up my manual focus skills. I've been a bit lazy in that respect. I've made a few boo-boos with white balance--forgetting to reset customizations etc--of course, I think I've made just about every photographic boo-boo one can make. lol. I've never liked the results of the the HDR feature, but I haven't worked it much. So glad you are having fun with the camera. I've said this before, and I know folks may think I'm crazy, but I really think the K-5 should go down in photographic history as one fantastic camera. When you think of camera size, IQ, ISO quality, metering strength, weather resistance, and cost--well, I think overall, great camera. It's not perfect to be sure, but it's still pretty darn great. Re: Peso - Up, Up and away
Thanks, Christine - To me those beams are important.. if anything , Id clip a bit of the top so that the hexagon corners jsut touch the opt of the frame.. I see what you mean - but in general, I don't care for square format Like about 3:2 the best. Most photos of mine that I fiddle with that result in loooking best in square format end up getting discarded. I LOVE the K-5! this is the full GESO of examples (not may photos) http://annsan.smugmug.com/On-the-Road-or-On-Foot/Learning-the-K-5 I particularly love it for being able to go totally manual now that I have my eyes back and can focus and can use my 28mm and my 50 from the 70's - When something isn't quite sharp it's because of camera movement, or when I was shooting from him not fast enough. Paul taught me use green button to lock in exposure . I love the way I can use AWB, take a frame, and then adjust the WB. Unfortunately, I've forgotten that I've fined tuned it for certain light sometimes.. Don't know the camera well enough yet to take full davantage of the fancy stuff, but being able to do without auto focus is a major plus. I'm so glad to be able to use the lens to adjust aperture and I've been setting the lens on f8 with the little red line pointing to it for grab shots - checking for light along the way. Love seeing the data for what you are doing on the nice big screen And it seems I get more light with the manual lenses - but I haven't checked it scientifically. Wonderful to be able to shoot at high ISO without flash. Only trouble with shooting totally manually is the exif data doesn't tell me what focal length I'm using or what lens. The 50 is an A but I had better success NOT using the A for controlling the ap.. I tried one HDR thing but didn't really get how to do it - just wanted to see if there was some purpose to it that wasnt over the top. Did I mention i love the K-5? :-) ann On 8/4/2013 10:13, Christine Aguila wrote: I like it, Ann. Good geometry play! I have the Color Skopar 21mm f/4, which I use a lot on the GXR-M. I use it occasionally on the M9, but the Color Skopar lens designs aren't terribly compatible with the M9 sensor—a good bit of color shifting and corner shading. The Ultron 21mm f/1.8 is not only much faster, it's a retrofocus design which is another reason it is so large. It is much more compatible with the M9 sensor. > Can you please elaborate on the specifics in which Hologon 16 would > outperform Heliar 15? I am curious, you see. IMO, forget OOF rendering qualities with such a wide angle lens. Better to work deep depth of field with such a short focal length, particularly when you have a maximum aperture of f/4.5 to work with. Somewhere in my archives I have a center-corner-edge comparison of the Hologon to the Heliar. If I can find it (I posted it in 1999 on my very first website experiment), I'll post it. But in short, the Hologon retains far better detailing right to the far edges of the frame than the Heliar ... the Heliar becomes rather mushy as it approaches the corners. However, the Hologon was more awkward in use as it is a fixed f/8 aperture, and the radial-gradient ND filter to produce even exposure across the frame knocks down the speed to an effective f/11-16 lens. The Heliar generally speaking works best at around f/5.6-6.3, and it's a much handier lens in use. > I was thinking about a lens to put between 15 mm and 40 mm but I have two > lensors - 18 mm and 33 mm (actual F.L.) that sit there just nicely. And also > it seems that Ultron 21/1.8 is rather big and heavy due to its fast > aperture... I have the other two A12 camera units too (A12 28 and A12 50 Macro) as well, but when shooting I tend to either have just one of them or the A12 Camera Mount with me. To me, each of them makes the GXR into a different camera and I don't mix them much. My usual travel lens kit with the GXR is comprised of the Color Skopar 21/4, the Nokton 40/1.4, and the M-Rokkor 90/4. All three of them perform very nicely with the A12 Camera Mount. When I want a single lens outfit with the A12 Camera Mount, I usually fit it with a Color Skopar 28mm f/3.5 or Ultron 28mm f/2. Re: Geso Old Fashioned Threshing Bee
Hi Don: #2 is great for composition and exposure. Great job at maintaining the exposure with the fire. Love #3 for the composition. The man left of frame draws you in and into the rest of frame. I'm intrigued by #8. I like the verticals right of frame and the wide view. Yes, and the mules are fun like Ann said. I prefer the color over the black and white. Nice work. RE: OT Brilliant
I am very pleased with the Sigma 18-250 DC HSM OS lens I bought in late 2011 for my then new K5. It compares very well with the Tamron 18-250 which I believe Pentax also sold under its name) that is on my wife's K100D. So Pentax is in fact included... It would seem that Sigma is skyrocketing to become the most desirable lens brand - at least in terms of versatility, diversity and user-friendly useful features. Also, it seems that their recent lenses are just as good optically as anything else out there, so Sigma gets my thumbs up. two thumbs up for Lenspen Sensor klear
For a long time, I've had an annoying blob on my M8 that I couldn't get rid of no matter how hard I blew. On ebay, these are going for about half rrp, so I picked one up. http://www.lenspen.com/?cPath=_1&products_id=NSKLK-1&tpid=323 It does exactly what it says it does, make it easy to see where the dust is, and now all my sensors are pristine. Remember, do not wipe, just dab. -- der...@iinet.net.au http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Very nice exposure, Dan. Not that centering of a principle element should always be avoided, but, for me, this dominant lily is distractingly close. Jack - Original Message - From: Daniel J.
