I already told the story that I now have a Canon digital slr. My other
photography items:

an infrared wildlife camera that I sometimes set up in the backyard.
I've captured foxes, raccoons, opossums and deer with it. No coyotes
yet though I have heard them howl in the woods behind the house.

a helmet cam video camera that I sometimes use when I'm riding. the
videos are fun to watch for maybe a minute then they get boring.

a digital tape video camera that I mostly use for filming my
grandchildren. Occasionally for filming my golf swing and bowling
form.

white and color photos from 1970's to now.
Where? It is at THE COMFORT at 399 Grand St (In L.E.S. of course), Ira
Freehof's sister restaurant to his midtown Comfort Diner. Bring your glasses
and your appetite - the restaurant will be open for
business that day. Hope you can get there for the opening, but if not, it will
be running through May 17th.

Among the photos you will find many you have seen before - including
Old Salt. I was asked by Ira to show 16 images. The last show I did for
him was Yesterdays Cafes at a different venue. The photos from that are a
gallery on my web page.

As all but a few of you are likely to be able to get to my opening,
These are the photos that will be in the show. They are 11 x 17
prints in 16 x 20 mats and frames.

where img1234 - img1234-X2
3. Import the X1 images into catalog B, (or the X2 images into catalog A,
or do both).

4. Assuming you are working now with catalog B.
a. add your Recent Import -X1 files to your collection.
b. sort by capture time
c. flip through the 1000. images in the collection.
d. Wherever you have twins, inspect to see if they are identical
twins. If they are identical, delete the X-1 version and move on.
e. If not identical, then adjust for keyword discrepancies. Choose
to keep different versions or choose one over the other and delete the
least preferred.

f. select all surviving images, batch add a Keeper keyword.
5. Now export this revised collection as a catalog. Go back to catalog A,
import from this collection catalog export.
6. Add the Recent Import images to your collection.
7. In the collection, select all those without keyword Keeper and delete.

I think my logic is sound, but you might want to create a test collection
of a few throw-away images to test the process before committing your
300-500 images.

Hi All!

I have the following situation:
I have two large(!) catalogs.
As it turned out, each of them has its own collection of files selected from
a bunch of files selected from the same large bunch (roughly 300-some photos
out of 500-some). [Note that these two collections are not identical, - I did
those selections on separate occasions, not realizing I've done it in the
other catalog.]

Some photos in both collections have been edited.

Here is what I am trying to achieve:
A collection that is a sum of both collections above (i.e. the superset, not
subset [overlap]).

I want to preserve the edits of the photos, and in case some photo was
edited in both catalogs, I'd prefer to get both versions (if possible), as
virtual copies.
With that, I don't want to get the virtual copies just because the keywords
are slightly different between the two collections.

I have a few thoughts of how to do this, but neither is what I would call an
elegant solution.

One possibility I thought about was to save metadata to file
(Am I correct that it would write the changes to the file itself?) in one
catalog for all the files, and then read metadata from file in another
catalog.

So, here is the first question:
1. Would this transfer all the changes to the file?

Now, these steps by themselves don't take into account whether the file has
been edited or not. I know that it is possible to enable showing the badge
edited, but I am not sure how I can select edited in the filter.
(And I am not sure if with that I can distinguish changes to the image from
adding keywords.)

2. Is that possible?

Any other suggesitons?

Thank you,

Igor

If I don't get a confirmed space, I get 'em to put me on the waiting

I think it used to be done by telephone at midnight until the last
several years when they switched to on-line registration. They tried to
get that live at midnight, but for some reason the servers just wouldn't
cooperate. You couldn't get registered until somebody came to work in
the morning to straighten on-line registration problems out.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who suggested that if their
internet support staff wouldn't come in special to fix registration

until the staff got to work in the morning.

Looks like that's what they're doing this year.

Fascinating, and dome very familiar places well photographed. I love the old

Especially to the attention, Rick and Dan - who a close enough to get
there..

I announced this on facebook earlier today

Save the date! Saturday, April 4th - Opening of my new photo exhibit
Around Here with the here essentially being The Lower East Side.
Both black and white and color photos from 1970's to now. Where? It is
at THE COMFORT at 399 Grand St (In L.E.S. of course), Ira Freehof's
sister restaurant to his midtown Comfort Diner. Bring your glasses and
your appetite - the restaurant will be open for business that day. Hope
you can get there for the opening, but if not, it will be running
through May 17th.

Among the photos you will find many you have seen before - including
Old Salt. I was asked by Ira to show 16 images. The last show I did
for him was Yesterdays Cafes at a different venue. The photos from
that are a gallery on my web page.

As all but a few of you are likely to be able to get to my opening,
These are the photos that will be in the show. They are 11 x 17
prints in 16 x 20 mats and frames.

http://annsan.smugmug.com/On-the-Road-or-On-Foot/Grand-Pix-my-choices/

The around here title came from Ira asking me if I had any photos
from around here - when we were talking in his restaurant which is
in what we call LES - the lower east side)

It would be super cool to see any of you there -- and if there are
any of you I haven't yet met in person in the area or visiting here
and you come to the opening day, make sure you introduce yourself
to me...

I went through a couple of days of saying what am I doing? so much
work - but I couldn't refuse Mr. Comfort Diner. This will make my
5th exhibit at one of his restaurants.

If I don't get a confirmed space, I get 'em to put me on the waiting
list. The two times I've had to do that, I eventually got in.

I think it used to be done by telephone at midnight until the last
several years when they switched to on-line registration. They tried to
get that live at midnight, but for some reason the servers just wouldn't
cooperate. You couldn't get registered until somebody came to work in
the morning to straighten on-line registration problems out.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who suggested that if their
internet support staff wouldn't come in special to fix registration
problems at midnight they should just delay the start of registration
until the staff got to work in the morning.

Looks like that's what they're doing this year.

On 22/3/15, Daniel J. Matyola, discombobulated, unleashed:

Before my first trip to Europe, I had always heard that Germans were
disciplined, regimented, militaristic and jingoistic, while the Swiss
were independent, individualistic, health conscious and politically
neutral. In my first border crossings (back in those days we had to
stop and show our passports), the German border guards were extremely
casual, and had shed much of their uniforms in the summer warmth.
They saw the color of our passport covers, saw we were Americans, and
waved us through with a cigarette in hand. Almost no German flags
were evident anywhere. The Swiss border guards, however, behaved with
military precision, carefully examined our passports page by page, and
questioned us about our purpose and intentions. Swiss patriotism was
always on display with the Swiss, Cantonal and City flags flying on
every structure. Expecting muesli for breakfast every morning, I was
greeted with a huge selection of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, jams and
butter, with as many calories as the notorious full Irish breakfast.

Fascinating! Love these recollections.

tomato relish at a braaivleis (barbeque to you Westerners!). Commercial
maize meal is finely ground but the rural variety is hand ground quite
coarse by comparison - truly gritty! Oh, our maize is the white
 variety
although some yellow is imported, especially in drought years like 2015.

Re: Geso: my trip to England 1982

2015-03-23 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Despite my comment about England's grey reputation, the weather was
quite nicer both time I visited. In fact, the week we spent in London
in February was warmer and sunnier than the week we spent in Paris in
April of the following year. I was amazed by the places that had
flowers still in bloom in flower boxes that time of year.

Which reminds me of another of my favorite travel stories. We arrived
in Paris the day before Easter. It rained almost every day. We
attended Easter mass in Notre Dame, which was packed and a bit smelly
with all the damp clothes. The next day, the rain stopped for a few
hours and we were walking in the Tuileries Gardens. My wife was
admiring the tall trees lining the path, and she commented on all the
white blossoms on the trees. The asked me what kind of trees they
were. I said I didn't know. She asked again. I repeated that I
didn't know. when we stopped for tea, she asked a third time, and I
got a little annoyed, probably because I was still a bit damp. Look,
I said, I'm just a tourist here as well. How the hell should I know
what trees bloom in Paris in April? Then, of course we both started
to laugh, and sing. April in Paris, chestnuts in blossom.

and The Lakes District. I was shooting Kodachrome and the developing bill
when I returned to the states was almost as high as the trip. These are some
imperfect scans of the slides. My technique was not too good but I like some
of the compositions. Oh the redhead with the bushy hair is my wife.

So if you have a moment peruse these and see if I have improved any since
then. Comments always welcomed.

I think it used to be done by telephone at midnight until the last
several years when they switched to on-line registration. They tried to
get that live at midnight, but for some reason the servers just wouldn't
cooperate. You couldn't get registered until somebody came to work in
the morning to straighten on-line registration problems out.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who suggested that if their

until the staff got to work in the morning.

Looks like that's what they're doing this year.

I just had to replace one on an Altima, and despite to what some people
wrote on the net (nightmares like removing a bumper..), it didn't require
anything to be removed... There was a YouTube video that showed how that
should be done relatively easily.
It took me only about half an hour, but that's because I couldn't get the
bulb to stay in place... If I had to do it the second time, it would've
taken me no more than 10 minutes.

Well I got a wake-up call yesterday.
I haven't used the mirrorless Fuji A-1 since my cataract surgeries.
Now both eyes are 'fixed', but I can't see close-up or read newspapers,
without reading glasses!

The Fuji A-1 still works fine, but has no viewfinder.
You do all your composition (and any manual focusing) on the rear screen.
Unfortunately, my arms need to be about 6 inches longer to put the
rear screen in focus.
Not a problem with the K-3, but now I need glasses for the Fuji!
I don't think I'm gonna keep the Fuji A-1 or the Pentax K-01 (also no
viewfinder).
And chimping will be a problem on the K-3...

Some of the people in my wife's office have computer glasses, which have
a slightly closer diopter for the main part of the lens, and a
conventional bifocal diopter for the bottom. Apparently you lose
infinity focus, but for around the house or office they are great.
I suspect that studio photographers would find them more useful than
landscape photographers.

a couple of you recently said they couldn't view my page - smugmug
showed up at the top , text showed, but not the thumbnail links to my
galleries or the link I sent..

This happened again with a friend of mine in Canada who has an older Mac
and has not updated his Safari at all - I blame the latest Smugmug
changes not supporting older browsers.

If you have recently updated your Safari browser can you let me know
if you can load this ? Just using the recent gallery link for my show
as that is what my friend in Toronto couldn't load.

thanks!

I've never had a problem with Smugmug and your link seems to be working fine
for me. I'm running the latest Safari.

Cheers,
Dave
