Re: What does everyone now use?
I already told the story that I now have a Canon digital slr. My other photography items: an infrared wildlife camera that I sometimes set up in the backyard. I've captured foxes, raccoons, opossums and deer with it. No coyotes yet though I have heard them howl in the woods behind the house. a helmet cam video camera that I sometimes use when I'm riding. the videos are fun to watch for maybe a minute then they get boring. a digital tape video camera that I mostly use for filming my grandchildren. Occasionally for filming my golf swing and bowling form. On Mon, Mar 23, 2015 at 6:54 AM, Jan van Wijk pen...@dfsee.com wrote: On Sat, 21 Mar 2015 11:26:20 -0400 P.J. Alling wrote: Currently? Re: Help needed - how to sync changes in LR from two catalogs
Thank you, Stan for the ideas. I might use some of those. I wish there were some more automated steps... I am surprised that there is no filter (or at least I cannot find) edited photos in LR. Igor Stanley Halpin Wed, 18 Mar 2015 10:24:06 -0700 wrote: My suggestion for a brute force (i.e., not elegant) solution: 1. In catalog B, select all images in collection x2 and do a batch rename where img1234 - img1234-X2 3. Import the X1 images into catalog B, (or the X2 images into catalog A, or do both). 4. Assuming you are working now with catalog B. a. add your Recent Import -X1 files to your collection. b. sort by capture time c. flip through the 1000. images in the collection. d. Wherever you have twins, inspect to see if they are identical twins. If they are identical, delete the X-1 version and move on. e. If not identical, then adjust for keyword discrepancies. Choose to keep different versions or choose one over the other and delete the least preferred. f. select all surviving images, batch add a Keeper keyword. 5. Now export this revised collection as a catalog. Go back to catalog A, import from this collection catalog export. 6. Add the Recent Import images to your collection. 7. In the collection, select all those without keyword Keeper and delete. I think my logic is sound, but you might want to create a test collection of a few throw-away images to test the process before committing your 300-500 images. stan On Tue, 17 Mar 2015, Igor PDML-StR wrote: Hi All! I have the following situation: I have two large(!) catalogs. As it turned out, each of them has its own collection of files selected from a bunch of files selected from the same large bunch (roughly 300-some photos out of 500-some). [Note that these two collections are not identical, - I did those selections on separate occasions, not realizing I've done it in the other catalog.] Some photos in both collections have been edited. Here is what I am trying to achieve: A collection that is a sum of both collections above (i.e. the superset, not subset [overlap]). I want to preserve the edits of the photos, and in case some photo was edited in both catalogs, I'd prefer to get both versions (if possible), as virtual copies. With that, I don't want to get the virtual copies just because the keywords are slightly different between the two collections. I have a few thoughts of how to do this, but neither is what I would call an elegant solution. One possibility I thought about was to save metadata to file (Am I correct that it would write the changes to the file itself?) in one catalog for all the files, and then read metadata from file in another catalog. So, here is the first question: 1. Would this transfer all the changes to the file? Now, these steps by themselves don't take into account whether the file has been edited or not. I know that it is possible to enable showing the badge edited, but I am not sure how I can select edited in the filter. (And I am not sure if with that I can distinguish changes to the image from adding keywords.) 2. Is that possible? Any other suggesitons? They tried to get that live at midnight, but for some reason the servers just wouldn't cooperate. You couldn't get registered until somebody came to work in the morning to straighten on-line registration problems out. Re: Geso: my trip to England 1982
On 22/3/15, Daniel J. Matyola, discombobulated, unleashed: Before my first trip to Europe, I had always heard that Germans were disciplined, regimented, militaristic and jingoistic, while the Swiss were independent, individualistic, health conscious and politically neutral. In my first border crossings (back in those days we had to stop and show our passports), the German border guards were extremely casual, and had shed much of their uniforms in the summer warmth. They saw the color of our passport covers, saw we were Americans, and waved us through with a cigarette in hand. Almost no German flags were evident anywhere. The Swiss border guards, however, behaved with military precision, carefully examined our passports page by page, and questioned us about our purpose and intentions. Swiss patriotism was always on display with the Swiss, Cantonal and City flags flying on every structure. Expecting muesli for breakfast every morning, I was greeted with a huge selection of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, jams and butter, with as many calories as the notorious full Irish breakfast. Fascinating! Love these recollections. -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__Broadcast, Corporate, || (O) |Web Video Production --www.seeingeye.tv _ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Geso: my trip to England 1982
Despite my comment about England's grey reputation, the weather was quite nicer both time I visited. In fact, the week we spent in London in February was warmer and sunnier than the week we spent in Paris in April of the following year. I was amazed by the places that had flowers still in bloom in flower boxes that time of year. Which reminds me of another of my favorite travel stories. We arrived in Paris the day before Easter. It rained almost every day. We attended Easter mass in Notre Dame, which was packed and a bit smelly with all the damp clothes. The next day, the rain stopped for a few hours and we were walking in the Tuileries Gardens. My wife was admiring the tall trees lining the path, and she commented on all the white blossoms on the trees. The asked me what kind of trees they were. I said I didn't know. She asked again. I repeated that I didn't know. when we stopped for tea, she asked a third time, and I got a little annoyed, probably because I was still a bit damp. Look, I said, I'm just a tourist here as well. How the hell should I know what trees bloom in Paris in April? Then, of course we both started to laugh, and sing. April in Paris, chestnuts in blossom. But I live in Raleigh, NC, so it's not a big journey for me, plus there's always a big contingent from the Carolinas' Nature Photography Association that I belong to. Here's the program: http://www.grandfather.com/events/nature-photography-weekend-2/ The only one I'm familiar with is Vinnie. OT: Days of Yore.
I just had to replace one on an Altima, and despite to what some people wrote on the net (nightmares like removing a bumper..), it didn't require anything to be removed... There was a YouTube video that showed how that should be done relatively easily. It took me only about half an hour, but that's because I couldn't get the bulb to stay in place... If I had to do it the second time, it would've taken me no more than 10 minutes. Well I got a wake-up call yesterday. I haven't used the mirrorless Fuji A-1 since my cataract surgeries. Now both eyes are 'fixed', but I can't see close-up or read newspapers, without reading glasses! The Fuji A-1 still works fine, but has no viewfinder. You do all your composition (and any manual focusing) on the rear screen. Unfortunately, my arms need to be about 6 inches longer to put the rear screen in focus. Not a problem with the K-3, but now I need glasses for the Fuji! I don't think I'm gonna keep the Fuji A-1 or the Pentax K-01 (also no viewfinder). And chimping will be a problem on the K-3... Just using the recent gallery link for my show as that is what my friend in Toronto couldn't load. http://annsan.smugmug.com/On-the-Road-or-On-Foot/Grand-Pix-my-choices/ thanks! ann -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

thanks for specifying version - My friend Fred's computer is a few years old - a bit worried that will prevent him from loading most recent version - but not being MAC savvy I'm not much help to him ann On 3/24/2015 00:13, Stanley Halpin wrote: No problems. Re: What does everyone now use?
I was thinking more of the opposite and just putting the reading glasses on and using the screen instead of having to take the reading glasses on and off constantly to go between the viewfinder and review screen. But I do understand the short arm issue very well. -- Bruce On March 23, 2015 4:46:25 PM PDT, Bob Sullivan rf.sulli...@gmail.com wrote: Well I got a wake-up call yesterday. Regards, Bob S. I had some minimal experience with my Dad's Kodak Retina IIIc and fell in love with 35mm slides. I started with a new Pentax ME and got sucked into LBA by the line-up of M lenses. This list provided much enablement over the years and helped explained how my Super Program worked. PZ-1, PZ-1p, ME Super, LX'en, then Pentax digital because I couldn't leave the lenses behind. The Fuji A-1 is a lovely LITTLE camera that I tried based on Brewer's and Cotty's testimonials. But I still can't leave my Pentax lenses behind. Regards, Bob S. From 1977 to 2014 I used almost exclusively Pentax equipment, although I had a brief and disappointing fling with an Olympus in the early 90s. I still use Pentax *most* of the time, but I now have a Canon camera as well, which serves a different purpose. Some of the people in my wife's office have computer glasses, which have a slightly closer diopter for the main part of the lens, and a conventional bifocal diopter for the bottom. Apparently you lose infinity focus, but for around the house or office they are great. I suspect that studio photographers would find them more useful than landscape photographers. bill -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I've never had a problem with Smugmug and your link seems to be working fine for me. I'm running the latest Safari.
