PESO: Little Frog

2020-07-27 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
A few weeks ago, we had a huge bullfrog in our swimming pool. I posted an
image of that critter in a PESO here.

More recently, we have had a group of small frogs visiting our pool. Over
the past week, we have fished out 2 dead ones, 2 live ones, and one that I
thought was dead but revived as I was examining it.

The one pictured below was the friendliest, and the most cooperative with
my photographic efforts. After our photo session, I took him to a nearby
stream, and released him there.

The second image is solely to illustrate the size of these frogs; it is
posed alongside a US quarter.

Thanks, John!   I'm happy with mine as well... one disappointment - all
the detailed info that is on the listing is only on line.. (and the
email I listed the details in here a while ago) - I thought it would be
in with the product.  It is worth reading for care instructions.

Also - cafepress is always offering coupons having sales.. in the
marketplace.. check those out before you buy - at the moment there is a
slightly reduced price for a mask , but there is a big shipping discount
(they say)..

Of course the more they cost you the more I gat LOL!  not that it is
very much money - if a couple more people buy masks this month I'll
likely get my cut sooner.

A flip out screen is extremely useful in taking pictures of flowers and

I also value a flip-out screen. But on top of that I prefer a fully
articulating screen that flips out, then can rotate in both directions, and
even fully close again with the screen facing inwards and not visible at all.
I have it on an Olympus Pen F and love it. So much so that I'm considering an
OM-D EM-1 mark II camera as another body with the same feature. (The original
OM-D EM-1 just has a flip-up screen.)

I'm really enjoying the M43 concept. I can easily get my head around the
lenses and their angle of acceptance, and there's some big bonuses,
particular at the long end. My A*85/1.4 is awesome on M43 and with the 5 axis
IS, is so usable handheld.

Actually I don't have any Oly lenses. The A*85 is joined by a 24/2.8 and a
50/1.4 - love using these lenses - they all have adapters on them for easy
swapping out.

The other two are Samyang 12/2 and Voigtlander 15/4.5

Enjoying the mirrorless life!

I really like the way the flip-out screen on the K-1 works.

I rarely use Live View, but the few times I have used it the articulating screen
on the K-1 has been a treat. I'm also impressed by how sturdy it is.

I thought I had all the lenses I was ever going to want after scoring the
FA600/4, but somehow the D FA 85/1.4 has managed to insinuate itself into my
Christmas wish list.

Too bad I'm too poor to have Christmas in July.

I frequently use the K-1’s articulated screen. All magazine art directors want
the long lens ground level front 3/4 shot of race cars, exotics and muscle
cars. With the flip up screen I no longer have to get down on the ground, a
maneuver that grows more difficult with every passing year.

Interesting. We have a similar thing here where the Diadem female & one

are several Acraea species which mimic the African Monarch too but they
are toxic anyway.

I also own a Ref Con A , but it is of no value for shooting small
flowers or mushrooms with the camera near the ground unless you lay down.
Last time I used this angle viewer,  the plastic holder of the glass of
the viewfinder of my MZ-S was damaged so since then  I never take off
the rubber protection piece.
Many times for mushrooms I either use a bean bag or a wooden plate with
an Arca-Swiss clamp screwed on top, so the viewfinder is too low.

A flip out screen is extremely useful in taking pictures of flowers and

tripod.
For me this is one of the most valued features of my K-1.

I don't know, I think I'd buy it, a flippy screen is just something else
to break, though I can see it's usefulness in some circumstances.

The new Prism looks like it could be duplicated by just using a O-ME53
which I've been using since I got my *ist-Ds.  It's not perfect but it
does give a view pretty close to an LX with a standard prism finder.
Probably not the highest viewfinder magnification, but good enough.

I'm just glad that they haven't abandoned the high end APS-C DSLR segment.

Re: What PENTAX Values Most in Future Cameras - more info on new APS-C flagship

2020-07-27 Thread Henk Terhell
I wouldn't mind mirrorless with its inherent light weight, but with all
my Pentax lenses I'm hesitant to change brands.
And it is so useful now to be able to switch lenses of FF and APS-C in
the Pentax system without any converters.
The K-1 is a perfect camera but not for carrying on long walks if
combined with a tele.
As a walk-around camera I much like my K-5 with a small lens as the DA
21/3.2,  but the fixed back screen is sometimes a handicap.
A compact APS-C with improved sensor and flip-out screen would therefore
be on my wish list for Santa Claus.
In fact both K-70 and KP are good choices and we haven't seen yet what
the new flagship has more to offer than a better prisma and two card slots.

What's the general consensus on the longevity of flip-out screens on

I suspect that W10 might use the Edge mechanicals for various UI things. The
reason that you can't choose to not install it is because then without it your
file viewer or suchlike won't work.

When it comes down to it, a browser is just a means of looking at files, and
it's arguably a lot more efficient to have everything in one place rather than
having a bunch of different programs with overlapping functionality.
