Just to add to the just to join, I've got an ME-F and the weird AF
lens that Pentax produced. Mostly useless, but a good show and tell
for any PDML gathering.

Re: B developing problem Any ideas?

2016-05-24 Thread Chris Mitchell
Thanks everyone for the replies. Confirms what I thought it was.

There's a young chap at work who's into film in a big way and I lent
him some of my equipment to get started on developing. He's been at it
for a year now and, having seen his work, I thought it would be low
risk to take up his offer of processing. This was the first time he's
had such a problem and I put the loss of 6 frames down to a learning
experience for him! They were architectural shots so I can go back and
redo them if I feel the urge.

He uses a Leica M5 mostly, but he's got an MX and an ME Super so he's one of us.

tandem tricycles. They are all ages, sizes, and both sexes (more men than
women) It is a different route each year and many ride year after year. Some
of them start the ride by biking the route from east to west and then
joining the others for the return. They eat a lot of carbs drink lots of
beer and profess to have a great time. Many find out that Iowa is not as
 flat as they had heard.

I rode a very short way with them. BTW my brother dubbed the ride Tour de

the ride with the slogan and original artwork by his wife.

This year they stopped in my hometown and here is small gallery of their
stop. Some Pentax; some not. CC as always.

Yes, I use an Ortlieb bar bag - this one:

It has a flip top lid with a magnetic closure and it's easy to get to
the camera. I don't have a specific camera insert for it but it comes
with adjustable dividers which can be configured to separate camera
bits. I wouldn't want to put a DSLR and heavy lenses in it though -
mainly because of the effect on stability of the bike. Even with just
a light load I have to be careful when parking up as the front swings
round and the bike can get away if I'm not careful. On our recent trip
with Bob I had a Fuji X-E1 and a couple of lightweight prime lenses in
the bar bag. For the airshow I carried the heavy 55-200 in a pannier.

Actually, I think I’m going to be able to work something out with a local

“excursions,” since I won’t have a week to give to one of their usual
 “tours,”
but I imagine it will be just as enjoyable.

Won’t be the same as a walk, though. I really enjoyed my walk in England.
Except for the first day, when Bob and Chris and Chris’s wife walked with

 which I enjoyed very much.

Likewise. What part of Italy will you be in?

park. It was a crazy weekend with the holiday, The Taste, and Grateful Dead
concert. Great day for people watching.

It’s been ions since I’ve done any sort of street photography, but was able
to do some; I’m rusty. A street artist was doing free portraits. That’s
not something Darrel likes to do, but he agreed. Darrel thinks the artist
rendered him too cheerful and didn’t “catch my sparkle.” I actually like the
portrait. There’s a shot of it in the gallery.

The shot of the guy staring at the shrubbery reminds me of a shot our Bob W.
would take—I call it “Homage to Bob. W.”

The weather has been amazing here in Chicago. It’s been three consecutive
temperate summers; many say it’s because our winters have been so cold—polar
vortex and all—causing the lake to stay cooler longer making for cooler
summers. Not sure if it’s true, but we’ll take these cooler summers. No
doubt, we’ll have some warmer days in July and August, but so far it’s been
 great!

Re: OT: Storage management question

2015-06-25 Thread Chris Mitchell
I had a drive fail on my Synology NAS just a couple of weeks ago and
took the opportunity of expanding capacity during the replacement.
Synology uses a hybrid raid 1 configuration so I don't know whether
it's a generic capability or just for Synology. The NAS had 2 x 2TB
drives and I bought 2 x 3TB WD Red NAS drives. I removed the failed
drive and replaced it with a new one and after a few hours it
synchronised and I had 2TB of storage available to me. After letting
it settle down for a few days I replaced the 2nd drive and after a few
hours of synchronisation had 3TB of storage space. Couldn't have been
more straightforward.

Re: PESO - Glastonbury Abbey

2015-06-17 Thread Chris Mitchell
Oliver can't take the rap for this one. He came later. This Cromwell
was Thomas, Henry VIII's chief minister and architect of the programme
to dissolve the monasteries and a distant relative to Oliver.

Olly was partly responsible for the other piece of cultural vandalism
in Rick's picture of the West front of Wells Cathedral, being a
leading light in the puritan movement that destroyed many works of art
in its campaign to remove idolatry from churches.

thrived until Cromwell had it destroyed, and had the Abbott hanged,
drawn, and quartered in 1539; it then fell into ruin.

The floor is no longer present, hence the slightly unusual composition.

I announced this on facebook earlier today

Save the date! Saturday, April 4th - Opening of my new photo exhibit
Around Here with the here essentially being The Lower East Side. Both
black and white and color photos from 1970's to now. Where? It is at THE
COMFORT at 399 Grand St (In L.E.S. of course), Ira Freehof's sister
restaurant to his midtown Comfort Diner. Bring your glasses and your
appetite - the restaurant will be open for business that day. Hope you can
get there for the opening, but if not, it will be running through May 17th.

Among the photos you will find many you have seen before - including
Old Salt. I was asked by Ira to show 16 images. The last show I did for
him was Yesterdays Cafes at a different venue. The photos from that are a
 gallery on my web page.

As all but a few of you are likely to be able to get to my opening,
These are the photos that will be in the show. They are 11 x 17
prints in 16 x 20 mats and frames.

 http://annsan.smugmug.com/On-the-Road-or-On-Foot/Grand-Pix-my-choices/

The around here title came from Ira asking me if I had any photos
from around here - when we were talking in his restaurant which is
in what we call LES - the lower east side)

It would be super cool to see any of you there -- and if there are
any of you I haven't yet met in person in the area or visiting here
and you come to the opening day, make sure you introduce yourself
 to me...

I went through a couple of days of saying what am I doing? so much
work - but I couldn't refuse Mr. Comfort Diner. This will make my
5th exhibit at one of his restaurants.
