Re: ???: Soligor 90/2,5 Macro
Kiron mae a lot of lenses for Vivitar so it wouldn't surprise me. Well, that was my first thought, and I bought the lens because I thought that it might be the Vivitar which is reputed to be on par with the A100/2.8 Macro. But the Vivitar is a 1:2 Macro, and goes to 1:1 with an extension tube. The f/2,8 Lens is the 1:1, at least at Vivitar. Tamron has a 1:1 90/2,5 Macro, but the lenses look too different from each other. Now I am thinking Kiron or something like that... Cheers, Boz - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Camera backpacks
Another pack that has not been mentioned in the Beseler Sedona 920. I use one for my Kiev88 gear. I like the upper compartment as I can keep the prism and 250mm lens mounted on the body and it fits with no problem. The lower will hold several lenses and other items. For my 35mm, I have a Lowepro MiniTreker. A good bag but I never could get the medium format equipment to fit. The biggest problem I have with the Photo Trekker is the tendency to pack way more equipment than I actually need to bring, since it has so much usable space. Re: First shot at inkjet prints...
that there are a couple spots on the print where some highlights are blown out -- small part of a cheek (or was it a forehead), and small portion of the baby's very light-colored pajamas. Also, the dark background seems to have some very subtle granularity to it (banding is maybe the right term?) which is not present in the midtones or highlights. Almost like printing on a conventional paper with too little latitude -- too contrasty. I was just using the automatic printer settings and did not adjust the printer's gamma, and I set the paper selection to heavyweight matte (which I believe prints at the highest resolution of the printer -- 2880x720?). Anything in particular I should be adjusting here to optimize the appearance of the Bill the default setting on my 870 for the matte is 720 instead of the max 1440. I have had similar problems with the banding but solved them two ways. #1. Run an alignment check on the head. Sometimes they do get out of adjustment after they leave the factory. #2. Look at /www.computer-darkroom.co.uk/ for specific instructions on how to change the print driver settings. They are talking about ICM settings at first but get to the drivers later in the article. Might help. BTW, the matte heavyweight is one of my favorite papers. I just don't use the default settings. Best, JeffW. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: ricoh rikenon lenses
Beside this, I also suspect the metering is not quite right either. I can put aperture on, say 8, on both Ricoh and Pentax lenses, and the cameras give different light meter readings. These lead to me to see the Ricoh, at least this lens I have, as compatible with Pentax bodies only for the mount. Also, on the aperture ring one has a P mark and other has a (A)P mark. What do they mean ? Is that the same as the pentax-A lenses? The lenses with only the P label will not work correctly with auto setting on Pentax cameras. The ones with the (A)P should as they normally have the connections for both. Any Ricoh P or third party (A)P mount lens should be used with caution (or not used) on Pentax AF bodies. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Rikenon 50mm matchup?
Ricoh had their P to equal the Pentax A. However, the P was activated by a small pin that falls about where the Pentax AF connector falls. So, unless the lens is a third party that has Pentax contacts and the Ricoh pin, it won't work on Pentax bodies in any modes requireing the A setting. And be very careful using this on ANY Pentax AF body as the pin can get stuck in the AF connection and be difficult (or impossible) to remove. Bad a very bad experience with this. I just switched to an MZ-M from my trusty K-1000 a few months ago and have been VERY slow in reading the manual. Tonight I just got to the automatic aperture adjustment on the lens. While my Ricoh Rikenon 50mm lens has no A setting on the aperture ring it does have a P which I assume is for Program. I set it to P but nothing happened, it is still acting like I should be setting the aperture by hand. Re: Photo printers
If I was buying an A4 printer now I'd go for the Epson C80, which has individual carts for the inks (a major bugbear in 6 colour printers like the 1290) and the inks are pigmented and shouldn't fade for many years. Yes, IMO it has become much easier to get a nice print. But your particular interpretation of a decent print will determine whether the improvement is good enough. Printing of colour images still seems much better than trying to print BW - BW images tend to end up with colour casts. Two things. I find that the amount of ink left in the different colors in an ink cartridge to be about equal when the printer indicates the cart. is empty. I dissected a couple of used 870 carts and decided not to worry anymore. I find I get my best BW prints on the matte papers. I don't know why but they seem to show the color cast less and be easier to get to a neutral tone. JeffW. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Nenad, As a US citizen with many friends in the military, I wish sending in ground troops would not be needed but in this case you are correct. The ONLY way to be positive the job is done and not cause indiscriminate death is with ground troops. This will still entail loss of life on both side. The loss of American military lives is what our leaders have been unwilling to risk for fear it would not be taken by the average citizen. In the long run, US military casualties might outnumber terrorist deaths. But if it is not done, then the US civilian casualties will continue to occur. And the US must, as we have historically done, help restore the country afterward so there is something for people to return to and build from. I have a silly question. If the guidelines, in place for at least a couple of years, stated that Themed submissions required Pentax lens or body and Open could be any K or M42, why is there even a problem? A submission that didn't meet the existing guidelines should have been politely refused and everyone could get on with their lives. No offence to anyone (since I'm not sure who is doing the gallery) but it sounds like a screw-up at the Gallery end and doesn't require a major arguement about what is/isn't Pentax equipment. Just so people know, I have 2 Pentax bodies, 2 other K-mount bodies, 6 M42 bodies (no Pentax) and three medium format bodies. I have lenses that are Pentax, Vivitar and many other brands. I can meet whatever guidelines are set if I choose to submit anything again. But why change the rules? JeffW. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. The results are good, I can have it developed anywhere and it scans better in my Minolta Scan Dual than regular BW. The grain apperance is different than say, Tri-X or T-Max but I like the look. My local lab even manages to print it out with a slight warm-brown cast instead of green or blue I other get. But since I mostly scan this isn't a problem. JeffW. P.S. Re: 'Light panels', flatbeds and film
Clive, As the user of both an older Minolta Scan Dual (35mm) and an Epson 1640SU Photo flatbed scanner I would have to say I don't think it will work very well. To me, even when the 1640 is used with the film holder and transparency adapter I don't like the quality on 35mm. I use it for scans of 6x6 and old 6x7 negatives and save the 35mm for the film scanner. The other potential problem is the way the 1640 seems to work. When scanning film, the regular bulb is off and only the transparency adapter is providing light. I guess to do this with another scanner you would have to disable the bulb. JeffW. I've seen recently some small, low-profile lightboxes - just like ordinary lightboxes, really, only thinner. There's a suggestion from SNIP extra, I'm thinking of giving it a try, but before I do, has anyone here tried it, and if so, with what degree of success? - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. If you can afford a little more, get the Perfection 1640 SU Photo with transparency adapter: it outperforms scanners costing several thousand dollars. Been reading all kinds of reviews, and right now it boils down to the ZX-7 or ZX-5N. I have never used the -7 but have a -5n and have had PZ-1 -1p cameras and have never noticed a big difference in AF speed when the same lens is used on the same type subjects. I prefer the control layout and features of the -5n best. I think the big question is how much will you be using the various program settings. If you shoot and want lots of manual control and a traditional layout then go with the -5n. If you want to shoot mainly in the program modes and prefer buttons over dials then go with the -7. For faster/better AF under less than perfect conditions, go with the fastest glass you can afford (or are willing buy/carry). The speed of the lens and the available light always seem to affect the AF speed more than the differences between bodies. JeffW. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
