KXmotordrive battery grip question
Folks I have a 'question for seller' that I am currently unable to answer. Here goes: I recently got hold of a Pentax KX Motor Drive camera, and since I'm not familiar with the drive, and info on it's accessories is scarce, I'm not asking the right questions. It seems the two grips, Grip I and Grip II, have a different number of contacts between the grip and the motor. Grip I has two, and Grip II has three contacts. There are no identifying numbers. What's not clear to me is how the battery grip that uses AA batteries, the one you have up for auction, interfaces with the motor. I believe it works with both Motor Drive I and Motor Drive II (confused yet?) So unless you know something that I missed, I don't think there's more you can tell me. Which grip do I have? (Unmissable!) Peter

Re: *istD North America Warranty
n way of a comparison, I work at a reasonably small, family-owned camera store where the salespeople (well, most of them, anyway g) have a fair amount of knowledge about cameras and photography. I hate people who buy cameras from places like Costco or Best Buy to save a few bucks (without checking to see if we'd match prices), and then come into our store and expect me to spend an hour showing them how to use their camera. If you want service, buy from the company you plan on bringing the camera back to for servicing. Ok, where did you buy the camera from? This store? Can you bring your receipt in? No? Oh you bought it at Walmart...I se. I can offer you advice and assistance, but since you did not even have the common courtesy to ASK us if we would be your preferred supplier, I will have to charge you the industry standard rate for advice and assistance. Which is $50/hour. OR Here is Walmart's 'customer service' number, best of luck sunshine. Have a wonderful Christmas Peter

Re: Henry's Camera very annoying
Spivs. Yep I would go along with Chris on this one. Seems Canon are in spiv overdrive, trying to cancel the opposition from first base. All in raise. Don't give them the chance to outdraw you. Sales Person Incentive Voucher. Henrys don't seems to have handled this very sensitively, or their sales personnel are morons. You decide. The bottom line is, the margins for retailers will be very low. So have to shift much product to make up for that. My guess is Pentax' incentives and margins fall below those of Canon. Re: OT: eBay Plagiarism
Don. If you hosted the pix off eBay, the easiest way to do something is change the original pix to something a little different, and change your URL in the auction (possible as long as you have no bids currently). Personally I don't think complaining to eBay is any good; by complaining to the perp you are just tipping him off to your little ruse. When you relocate the URL of your pix, make sure you overtype picture author in a strategic place. I don't generally bother overtyping on used items unless they are considered unusual; used is rarely homogenous and the perp will simply be running the risk of shooting themselves in the foot. Cheers Peter

Conjures up images of a buffoonish constable singing Hello, Hello, Hello, what's going on here then? in the style of Gilbert Sullivan or Nessun Dorma - in my airport! by some privatised goon. I've only met Mike twice but I have a vision of Harry Secombe. Breastfed on 'Rommel - Gunner who?' and 'AH my part in his downfall'. Toodle pip! Peter
Toys for grabs
In case you had not noticed, I am selling some shiny Pentax toys on ebay. http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItemsinclude=0userid =shatcho%40aol.comsort=2rows=25since=-1rd=1 Most are lovely, one or two are exceptional, best of all they are all very reasonable. Kind regards Peter
Re: Fun Friday: typo awards
Spike was quite a photographer, on the quiet. I seem to remember a series of ads 's [Nikon/Pentax?] where his comparatively new model had had all of the horrible black paint removed (apparently with a nail file or such) to show the lovely brass underneath. Wonder where it is now? Not in my shop. (Sadly). Now that would be a coup. Or is it a coupe? I do have some of Tim Page's gear here though. A 300mm F2.8 (that looks like it went to the Vietnam conflict). Kind regards Peter
Re: Purchasing Film for Holiday in the UK
Oh, they have a sense of humor all right. I has to do with you bending over stark naked and them running fingers into your body cavities. Tom, yes these are the amateur proctologist plod to whom I was referring. Kind regards Peter
Re: OT Paris pics
Paul Thanks for the link. I tried to pick my favourite, but concluded that they were all my favourite. Kind regards Peter
Re: Purchasing Film for Holiday in the UK
My puerile side often considered some extremely high lead content paint (can't buy it any more can we?) marking out an interesting message on the inside of your hardshell hand baggageanswers on a postcard please Kind regards Peter
Re: Purchasing Film for Holiday in the UK
I've heard that in many cases, if they see a lead-lined bag, they just turn up the power of the (new and more powerful) x-ray scanner to see through it, which then subjects the film to more radiation than it would have seen if it had gone through without a bag. Is this true? Joe, I have no idea but can envisage a number of the airport security plods going ha! caught you, you crafty little so so. I'll teach you to upset the apple cart - and turning it up to 11 (because it's 1 more than ten) It's something I've always wanted to ask them but that might be misconstrued and I end up in a cell for a few hours with some laughing amateur proctologist plod. Kind regards Peter
Re: Purchasing Film for Holiday in the UK
I'm wondering if there is some way in the UK to have a letter/package sent to a post office and then pick it up? Because if i order it a couple of days before i leave for the UK, then it should be there by the time i arrive. Paul. I believe you can activate a 'poste restante' facility. However almost certainly there are forms to be filled prior. Whether they need your actual physical presence in the PO I don't know. Since I visit the PO every day I shall ask. www.royalmail.com The other variable to consider is the rather poor record of ontime deliveries that 7DS have, apparently. Kind regards Peter
Re: Some new GFM photos
I've just put up a page of photos from Grandfather Mountain. The first shot is the summit shot of myself Jerome and Cesar on McRae Peak from last year's Camera Clinic Weekend in August. Mark. That was some hike, eh? Some of you are even steaming:) The wet self portrait - yeech -wet rock, don't you just hate it? Much admiration for even thinking about taking your gear out in those conditions. Kind regards Peter
Re: K mount stop-down metering (was: Re: K on *ist D compatible without meterin
Your meanderings have caused my brain to actually start working. Canon FD system, at one point, had some tiny plastic part used for manual diaphragm activation, did they not? Used for reversed lenses, as FD lenses not mounted revert to F5.6 diaphragm opening. Why is it not possible to create such a part to mount temporarily in the back of K mount lenses which are mounted on the *ist line? Obviously the Canon part did not suffer any particular space limitations, given that it was intended for reversed lenses. Am I going mad? Kind regards Peter
Re: Purchasing Film for Holiday in the UK
I learned that one can activate a 'poste restante' facility, but all the paperwork is held by Royal Mail Headquarters, and I have no idea at the moment if they will send paperwork out ot non UK addresses. I think there is a webform on the Royal Mail site www.royalmail.com; the response time varies from a couple of hours to, er , well, still waiting actually. A lot of dealers won't send stuff to the non-card registered address, especially when the card originator is from outside the UK. Mathers seem to be human beings, where others may simply be robots. Kind regards from sunny Brighton Peter

...and this time I was ready and waiting for him... http://www.macads.co.uk/snaps/photoessays/owl.html I was going to suggest a submission of the first one to a nh agency, but these guys usually only accept submissions of 100+ images. Plus publishing it on the web is generally a bad idea for selling, in that any old bod can copy it. Cracking stuff. Eric Hosking watch out! Cotty's about Cheers Peter

I'm not going to play with it as it then won't be new. Hope the -D weighs a little bit more. BTW we don't sell Canon but I know what you mean. Photo Foire Bievres
Mention of the Mir 20mm brings me to relive a particular memory of that hectic weekend: 2 sellers, both of eastern european extraction, both selling the 16mm in Pentax mount. First guy shows me the lens, front element a bit spotty new lens, 2 for 120euro each - ok - what's next, another table new, in case, 180 euro, no discount, only one here - the front element on this one is also covered in grease marks. (Me) new is it? Why's it covered in shit then? What's the French for 'I wasn't born yesterday'? The good thing about this show is you only have to see these people once a year so you can be as obnoxious as you like. Didn't fancy any of these rejects. A real new one for 120 euro, yes. Cheers Peter

Re: 2004 PUG Themes
Ooooh! I could do that one - we have a safari park with all of those just outside town ... I had the misfortune of attending such an 'attraction' recently. In the rain. What's attractive about a bunch of monkeys holding umbrellas and asking each other when the weather will improve? I did 'think' to pack a camera - unfortunately it was a Nikon D1 outfit minus the body - doh! What a jerk Kind regards Peter
