Cable looks to be around 10 or 15 feet long - one connector is a 5 pin round
similar to Motor Drive A - the other I have nae ken.

KXmotordrive battery grip question

2004-03-19 Thread Camdir
Folks

I have a 'question for seller' that I am currently unable to answer.

Here goes:

I recently got hold of a Pentax KX Motor Drive camera, and since I'm not
familiar with the drive, and info on it's accessories is scarce, I'm not asking
the right questions.

It seems the two grips, Grip I and Grip II, have a different number of
contacts between the grip and the motor. Grip I has two, and Grip II has three
contacts. There are no identifying numbers. What's not clear to me is how the
battery grip that uses AA batteries, the one you have up for auction, interfaces
with the motor. I believe it works with both Motor Drive I and Motor Drive
II (confused yet?) So unless you know something that I missed, I don't think
there's more you can tell me.

Which grip do I have?

(Unmissable!)

Peter. You got me. Natch the catalog makes no mention of the viewfinder combo

32520 Soft Case for LX w/ Watch data
33919 Blimp Case for LX or M bodies w/finder winder or Motor Drive

2003-12-18 Thread Camdir
n way of a comparison, I work at a reasonably small, family-owned camera
store where the salespeople (well, most of them, anyway g) have a fair
amount of knowledge about cameras and photography. I hate people who buy
cameras from places like Costco or Best Buy to save a few bucks (without
checking to see if we'd match prices), and then come into our store and
expect me to spend an hour showing them how to use their camera. If you
want service, buy from the company you plan on bringing the camera back to
for servicing.

Ok, where did you buy the camera from? This store? Can you bring your receipt
in? No? Oh you bought it at Walmart...I se. I can offer you advice
and assistance, but since you did not even have the common courtesy to ASK us if
we would be your preferred supplier, I will have to charge you the industry
standard rate for advice and assistance. Which is $50/hour.

Spivs. Yep I would go along with Chris on this one. Seems Canon are in spiv overdrive,

chance to outdraw you.

Sales Person Incentive Voucher. Henrys don't seems to have handled this very
sensitively, or their sales personnel are morons. You decide.

The bottom line is, the margins for retailers will be very low. So have to shift much
product to make up for that. My guess is Pentax' incentives and margins fall below
those of Canon.

Don. If you hosted the pix off eBay, the easiest way to do something is
change the original pix to something a little different, and change your URL in the
auction (possible as long as you have no bids currently).

Personally I don't think complaining to eBay is any good; by complaining to
the perp you are just tipping him off to your little ruse.

When you relocate the URL of your pix, make sure you overtype picture author
in a strategic place.

I don't generally bother overtyping on used items unless they are considered
unusual; used is rarely homogenous and the perp will simply be running the
risk of shooting themselves in the foot.

First impressions:

The lens feels nicely put together although appearance does resemble a lot of
the budget eos lenses.

The hood has the polarizer cut-out. At first I thought the hood would just
drop off but then realised there is a detente at which point it clicks into
place.

The manual focus ring is not fantastically useable being only 9mm or so deep,
however the feel is good with imho just the right degree of stiction. There
is no dof scale.

Later today I will post a couple of pix.

Can someone in the US do me a favor?

2003-07-11 Thread Camdir
I need to obtain some English Language manuals for Fuji S1 and Fuji S2, Nikon
D1.

The UK distributors want STUPID prices for these things.

Since the USA distributors probably will not ship outside the US, I was
wondering if someone might devote a few minutes stuck in an automated telephone
system to discover how much these things are and if they can get two or three of
each. And then post them to me. I have a few bucks kicking around in a PP
account.

Preferably new manuals, but photocopies would do at a pinch.

Yes, I know it's not Friday.

Just in:

LX FA1, with LX dial Data. It has sticky mirror, slightly. Obvious signs of

Since I don't have a spare back, if you want the LX Dial Data only, you will
have to supply a back in the deal.

As is the whole shebang £190. With mirror fixed and 12 month gtee £275. Dial

While there, anybody knows if the N*k*n blimp case would fit an LX
 (or an MX with motor)?

Andre. Since CS15 was designed for F3 + MD4, yes it would accept either. The
MX might be a little lost in there. The only problem I can think of is that
there is a little flap on the back which lifts up to access the finder.
Presumably the distance relationship between this flap and the hole for the lens is a
little different with Pentax. Probably less error with the LX?

Would you like me to try to find a #33919 LX blimp case when I in Japan?
Yikes! The old retail of these was over $200!

From my perspective:

A couple of local pjs being harassed into picking something up. (Nikon in
both cases since they already have the lenses). A wannabe pj looking to pick up
some extra income (Nikon again). An art student from the local University (most
likely Nikon again, could be Pentax). A wedding photographer (Fuji this time
but you can pronounce it Nikon). My website guy (Olympus now but could be
persuaded into the Kodak 14mp thing, or maybe a Fuji/Nikon if the price is right).

So I suppose it's ok to say:

We have some more of those elusive SG60 screens. Plus SE60, SC69, and Grip A.

No LX fastener straps but Clive Evans suggested looking at the Op/Tech series
- they have a fastener which looks like it should fit the LX posts - only
fits the Op/Tech straps with the fastex buckle but hey, it's a bouncy strap. And
everyone needs one of those.

Oh, and a couple of new toys:

A nice wooden tripod to hold up the 1000mm, so that is now complete again.

And a gorgeous 24mm F2.8 A lens.

I've heard that in many cases, if they see a lead-lined bag, they
just turn up the power of the (new and more powerful) x-ray scanner
to see through it, which then subjects the film to more radiation

 true?

Paul. I believe you can activate a 'poste restante' facility. However almost

Your meanderings have caused my brain to actually start working.

Canon FD system, at one point, had some tiny plastic part used for manual
diaphragm activation, did they not? Used for reversed lenses, as FD lenses not
mounted revert to F5.6 diaphragm opening.

Why is it not possible to create such a part to mount temporarily in the back
of K mount lenses which are mounted on the *ist line? Obviously the Canon
part did not suffer any particular space limitations, given that it was intended
for reversed lenses.

Am I going mad?

I learned that one can activate a 'poste restante' facility, but all the
paperwork is held by Royal Mail Headquarters, and I have no idea at the moment if
they will send paperwork out ot non UK addresses. I think there is a webform
on the Royal Mail site www.royalmail.com; the response time varies from a
couple of hours to, er , well, still waiting actually.

A lot of dealers won't send stuff to the non-card registered address,
