Re: New Body vs. New Lens
> So what's more likely for you next: new body or new lenses? While I would REALLY like to say I'll be getting one of the new items, the fact is that I probably can't afford any of them. However, if I could, my first move would be to sell my M* 300mm f4 and apply that money toward the DA*300. Close second would be the DA35 Limited, since I could really use a wider macro lens. Third option would be the K20D. I love the camera and all the wonderful improvements, but I'm going against my very nature and deciding I'll have to sit out this generation. A friend of mine religiously watches America's Next Top Model, and says that nearly every time they have someone taking photos, they're using a Hasselblad digital. I would be willing to bet that most of the Hassy digitals in use are in the glamour industry, where they need to be able to blow things up to HUGE sizes. Just a guess, though. My dad got one of the very first Saturn coupes in California, and for the rest of the '90s my little brothers and I were big Saturn fans (we were young and impressionable, what can I say). Every year we went to the San Francisco International Auto Show, and I saw the evolution of the Saturn brand from the beginning. When GM started drawing them in closer, they just went downhill. Quality, looks, everything. The only interesting & unique thing Saturn has put out this decade was the 2001 special edition yellow coupe, which I thought was just beautiful, especially with the black & yellow leather interior. My mom got one, but with plain black cloth interior (boring). The other product of theirs that I like is the Sky roadster, but it's just another GM clone, like the rest of Saturn's cars now. I was very sad when my dad sold his little red Saturn, but it was getting old and he needed something he could haul gardening supplies with. Now he's driving a Honda CR-V, and I suspect future car purchases that my parents make will be Japanese as well. My parents just don't trust the American car companies anymore. Me, I'd give anything for a new Dodge Challenger. John Celio The Saturn Score: Dad: original '91 SC-1 Coupe, now drives a Honda CR-V Mom: 2001 yellow special edition SC-2 Bro 1: 2000 (?) Re: Holy crap, Pentax repair is fast
Well, if your camera shop is anything like the one I worked at, the fact that you're sending it off through them means it's probably going to a Pentax- authorized repair center, and not Pentax themselves. The place it's sent to may or may not be as fast as Pentax at fixing cameras, but I'd bet they handle cameras from all brands and thus have a bigger backlog of work to do. Don't give up hope, but don't hold your breath either. :( John Celio Quoting Charles Robinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > On Dec 19, 2007, at 0:26, John Celio wrote: > > Thankfully, they fixed the problems under warranty, and because of > > that the > > turn-around was incredibly fast. Re: Why not have another Survey? K10 shutter count
Last photo I took (and kept) before sending my K10D off for repair was number 2580. I've owned the camera for one year now, but I'm something of a conservative photographer: I don't like shooting a dozen shots of one subject, unless there's a lot of action. This is probably because of two things: 1. Not being able to afford to shoot a whole lot back when I was in college and learning photography. 2. Only having one 1gb card when I had the *istD. Now I've got two 2gb and one 4gb, so I've started loosening up a bit the last few months, but I still try to make every shot count. Back at Reed's, I got to play with many professional and otherwise super-expensive cameras. The entire Hasselblad and Leica M lines are a good example of cameras I lusted after. I once got to borrow an M4 for a weekend, and a Hassy 501 (I think) for a week, and was immediately in love with them both. There are plenty of other cameras I've lusted after, but the only one I really ever wanted more than others was the Pentax LX, and really this is only because of the legendary status the camera holds amongst us Pentax fans. Re: Interesting turn of events on www.pentaximaging.com
I saw a ZX-M (MZ-M) and an *ist in a San Francisco Ritz Camera last summer. Before Reed's closed, we still had some ZX-M kits in stock, though I think a local school was going to buy them all. We sold quite a few ZX-M bodies to a couple local schools over the years, actually. Damn kids kept fucking 'em up, too. Fingers through the shutter, knobs pulled off, broken battery door, etc. If I ran a school, I'd require the kids to get their own damn cameras. I certainly can, walking down any old street, in any city, USA, > zip > code goes here. I think you are missing something. In my opinion (as a person with an art degree), Godfrey's photo is an example of Photography as Fine Art. I can assume from your comments that you are not a fan of abstract art, which is how I see Godfrey's work from this particular series. You see a photo and want it to tell you a story, but it does not have to. There are no rules in art. This means that, yes, a child could take similar photos, hang them and call them art. However, if you take a closer look at Godfrey's series, I think you will see a lot more skill involved than you think. Composition is a huge part of his photos, and it's almost always very good (I realize "good" is subjective, but I'm writing from work and don't have enough time to be less so). A child is not going to know how to take abstract photos of everyday objects and make the composition visually appealing, or notice colors or forms that contrast or compliment each other and capture them in a similarly appealing way. Skill is as much involved in photographing abstract shapes as it is in painting a portrait or taking a landscape photograph. The child could call their photos art and they would be, but it takes skill to make that art look good to more than just their parents. Ok to post PESO theme idea?
I have an idea for a fun PESO theme (for anyone who is interested), but I'm unsure if such a thing is allowed. It does not conflict with current PUG themes, as far as I can tell. The point for anyone who wants to participate would be to post an image they've already taken that fits the theme. It's the same concept as a PUG theme, but on the list instead of the PUG site. So, is that okay, or not allowed outside of the PUG?
