Miy 15mm does feature the 4 feet mark and the front lens diameter is 69 mm
(measured with a caliper). It's a K SMC PENTAX 1:3.5/15, sn 5068171.

24-90 or 28-105?

2003-07-18 Thread talampaya
Hi all,
A friend of mine has bought a MZ-3 body, and now he does desire to buy a FA
zoom. He asked me to help him to choose between the FA 28-105 f/3.2 - 4.5 IF
AL and the FA 24-90 f/3.5 - 4.5 IF AL. I'm a Pentax user and collector, but
my interest is only in manual focus bodies anf prime lenses, so I cannot be
very useful in this task.
Maybe someone in the list can help my friend? Which are the plus and minus
of these two zooms? Which does perform better in terms of sharpness,
contrast, distortion, light fall-off, building quality, handling..
Thank you,

SMC 1:3.5 15mm and 28 shift on auction

2002-06-10 Thread talampaya

About three weeks ago I could touch a SMCP 1:3,5 15mm and a SMCP Shift 1:3.5
28mm, in a shop here in Rome. They let me mount the 15mm on my MX,
unfortunately unloaded. Now both lenses are on auction in ebay italy. I
presume they are the same specimens I saw, as the seller told me he
regularly sells items tru ebay, and the auctioneer is based in Rome.
This is the 15mm:
http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1358347201
Maybe it could be useful for bidders to know that the shop prices were:
1.000 euro for 15mm and 950 euro for the shift.

My web page

2002-06-01 Thread talampaya

Sometime ago someone (Dan?) underlined how this list is too much
"gear-oriented", and very few posts did concern our pictures. All we
PUGsters are eagerly waiting for Cotty's monthly review, and I do praise all
the fellow pdml-ers who devote their time to comment our submissions (and I
do quite envy their English; I'd like to send comments, too, but I think you
must master the language to do properly a criticism, and I don't...).
So, sometimes we do receive good comments for our pictures, but...
But it should be better, IMHO, to receive comments for our mistakes, too. As
someone pointed out (William Robb?) we can improve our results by studying
our errors. I know there are a lot of fine photographers in the list (some
of them - Shel - do seldom submit in the PUG - why???), and they could
help me to improve!
So I planned to build my web page, where I could upload some pics to receive
your comments and criticism. Obviously, I do like the pictures I put in the
site, but I wonder how another photographer would have shot or cropped the
same image.
As I'm a quite authentic html illiterate, I did use the Tripod's webbuilder,
so - please - criticize the pictures, not the web page's layout!
The url is: http://utenti.lycos.it/tucuman
TIA to all of you who will devote a little time for me.

Price of ME F

2002-03-17 Thread talampaya

Hi all,

I have a chance to buy a ME F with the SMC Pentax AF Zoom 1:2.8 35-70 mm.
Both seem to be in excellent conditions.
The seller asked me 300 Euro (265 US$). It seems to me not very cheap, but I
don't know if it is actually high.
I'm collectioning the K and M bodies (well, I' m using them, too), and the
ME F is not too easy to find, so consider I'm set to pay something more than
the average price.
Could anyone of you tell me what is a fair price?

Thanks, Sid.
I forgot to mention I used a linear polarizer filter; forgive me, the shot
was taken almost eight years ago, on May '94 - southern fall.

Either the slide and the Cibachrome print do show the same saturation of the
jpeg version. To get this, however, I had to use Photoshop, as the scanned
image was quite greyish (expecially for the water, emerald green in the
slide, unfortunately not well reproduced in the Cibachrome print). I
slightly cropped the original picture on the left end, too.

Happy new year to all of you!

Spanish and pretends to be an Argentinian
I was luckier than you, a day I had the odd idea to take some shots in Boca
(real Boca, not Caminito...) : two guys kindly told me the children around
didn't like to be portraited. There was neither a child around. "Which
children? I was shooting old houses...". My girl-friend (Argentinian) knew
what was coming, said thanks boys, please buy some candies to these nice
kids, and gave them five pesos. We could leave the area with the gear Of
course, it would have been happened in Rome, too, but; I guess; in a less
surrealistic way, and without any chance to save the gear!
Great and unlucky Country, beloved Argentina!

I hope that among the data there wasn't your address!

Albano, you're lucky the shop was in Capital Federal: if the policeman was a
Bonaerense one,
you know, he would have stolen the gear from you just out of the shop...

Bravo!

SMC K mount lenses: year of introduction

2001-11-04 Thread talampaya

Last thursday I was looking for a UV filter, but I had no time to go to my
usual seller, so I went into a little shop, the first one I found. While
asking for the filter, on a shelf I spotted an old Pentax lens box (the one
white in the upper part, red in the middle and black below). I cannot trust my
poor sight, but it looked like that in the little rectangular white label down
on the left, it was written "35 mm F3.5". My old 35!, after 21 years!
(Flashback: when I bought my first camera, a MX, I chose a 35 mm as standard
lens, and the K f/3,5 was far cheaper than the then (1978) new M series' f/2
or f 2.8. I was very happy with this lens, and then added a used K 200 f/4. A
odd pair of lens, but I loved both, and, I had no money to buy any other one
(I was 18). Two years later they robbed me of all the gear. When I managed to
buy another MX, one more year later, the tiny budget allowed me to get a M 50
f/1.7. Since then, I have been regretting the lost of both 35 and 200. Yes, I
got a A 35 f/2.8 and a M 200 f/4, but I always missed the old pair).
I asked for the price, and it was 260 euros (about $ 230). "Not a bargain for
used stuff" I said. "Used? It's brand new!". It *WAS BRAND NEW*! Possibly it
had been sleeping 25 years on that shelf!! The box needed a sprinkling, but
the lens, and its case & strap, were mint. There were both the sheet with
serial number and feet/meters conversion tablewere and the booklet "SMC PENTAX
LENSES K ", too.
Back at home, the lens mounted on the MX, I enjoyed the reading of the
booklet. Whew, it is the 200 f/4 which is displayed in the cover, mounted on a
silver K2
Now the questions:
At pages 32-33 ("Specifications") are listed the K series lenses, with their
features. Some K lenses are missing in this list:
18 / 3,5
24 / 2.8
28 / 2
28 / 3.5 Shift
30 / 2.8
55 / 2
100 / 4 Bellows
200 / 2.5
1000 / 11 Reflex
2000 / 13,5 Reflex
Zoom 28 - 50 / 3.5 - 4.5
Zoom 85 - 210 / 3.5
Zoom 400 - 600 / 8 - 12 Reflex
The question is: When were theese lenses released? According to B.Dimitrov's
site the most of the K lenses was introduced in 1975, but he includes in this
first issue the 18 mm, the 24mm/2,8, the 30 mm and the 100 mm Bellows. Were
they introduced in the same year, but in a second time (after the bookled was
issued)?
OTOH, Bozhidar states that the 28 / 3.5 and the 150 / 4 were introduced,
respectively, in 1976 and 1977. But they actually are present in the booklet's
list!
Can anyone of you give me the right answer?
Another related question: when did the indication on the lens' front ring
change? In the oldest K lenses, the focal lenght does not include "mm"
(millimeters), and the lettering is different (thiner types, more space
between two letters).
Thank you
Fabio (very happy with his 35/3.5, and still hoping to come across a K
200/4).

R: MX manual and/or brochure

I could scan my MX user's manual... but it's the Italian edition. I'm afraid
it could be useful just to three or four PDMLers...
Let me know.
