Re: PESO - Lightning Strike, Polzeath, Cornwall 2014
Very nice, especially the way the cloud is lit. I went to the Dennis Hopper exhibition after work today, and cycled home at about 9pm, all the time watching the lightning flashing in the dense black clouds in the east. Felt the occasional fat drop of rain, but no downpour. The whole thing was a magnificent sight, and when I was cycling along the river in Greenwich the walkway was lined with people taking photos of the lightning over the Dome, and each time there was a flash a great cheer went up from the passengers on the pleasure cruisers. I find that image quite effective and pleasing. There is nice contrast between the smoothness of the sand or mud and the rough texture of the large dark rock mass on the right. I also like the way the left-pointing wedge of the rock on the right is complemented by the right-pointing distant land masses and cloud bank in the left distance. It makes for a strong composition, balanced in one sense and unbalanced in another. Cotty, Quoth the Water Rat in Wind in the Willows, 'Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing- absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.' I think that includes photographic boats. This is a very nice gallery that captures the feel of the area well. I particularly like 1,2,7,8 (where the orange bouys along the gunwale really make the shot) and 9. My favorite area of the Cornish coast is up near Tintagel. What an amazing area!
