Help! Can't get k-5 past 6400 iso...
Ok, I feel like a dummy here, there must be something obvious I'm missing... and I routinely shoot my k-5 at higher ISOs, just yesterday I was shooting at 8000, last Saturday at 16,000, so I'm not even sure how I got into this jam, but here it is: In manual, I cannot adjust my iso beyond the range of 100 - 6400. In the Custom menu, 3. expanded sensitivity, is set to "on", but it describes this option as enabling sensitivity up to iso 6400. In the Record menu, ISO sensitivity Auto setting, same thing. I cannot adjust to lower than 100, nor higher than 6400. What am I missing here? I have a dim recollection of this happening to me once before... and there was another setting I missed... but can't for the life of me recall, and I have rtfm several times, to no avail. Thoughts? Thanks in advance... :) -c -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I'm a bit far away from my K-5 just now, but I believe there is a separate setting that limits the range for Auto ISO. Thanks, Jostein... you are very kind to reply to my plea, but... Just when I thought I couldn't feel any dumber... I check the firmware & discover I'm running "k-7 ver 1.02". Yup, I had grabbed the wrong camera. So... nevermind. Sigh. Just to clarify -- I'm not blonde. Re: Help! Can't get k-5 past 6400 iso...
You did, but the biggest DUH is for me... I thought I was using the k-5, but had really grabbed the k-7! It was early this morning, we were rushing out to my son's track meet, I picked up the camera on my desk, and off we went, forgetting that the k-5 was set up on the tripod across the room, and not noting the different color strap... Imagine my aggravation/surprise/dismay when setting up for a few shots at the indoor track, and not being able to dial in 16,000 iso, as usual. I should have tried some panning shots. I should have taken video with my iPhone, for that matter. Arg. He ran his best mile time yet this year, too. (I won't even mention how much time I spent poring through the manual, clicking through the menus, googling the "problem" and mentally drafting my next email to Pentax Service... 'cuz then you'd all know what an idiot I am.) So, thanks for asking, but "never mind" is the answer, I'm afraid. And, just so this is not all for nothing... Emily Litella said it best. The menus are different in the k-5. I always notice that when i use my k-7 as i am more used to the k-5 now. My k-7 looks like its been used on a battlefield so there is no mistaking it. The focusing screen is a lot more filthy too. :) Pentax sure makes their gear tough. Both cameras have survived rough falls. I do baby my k-5 a lot more though. Both of my cameras have relatively the same amount of wear at this point... and they do have different colored straps, which should have prevented this, uh, firmware problem. Re: Help! Can't get k-5 past 6400 iso...
Years ago, while on a business trip to San Antonio, Texas, I picked up a rental car, got to my inspection site, finished my job, got to my hotel and turned in for the night. In the morning I told the doorman I needed my car, told him what it was and waited for him to bring it to the door. I got in and was half way to the airport before I realized that it was the same make & model as my rental - but it wasn't my car. I immediately returned to the hotel and retrieved my rental vehicle. When I got to the rental car return facility, I mentioned my incident to the attendant and he said it happens all the time - someone tries to return a different vehicle then they rented. He mentioned, in fact they have had people trying to return other rental company's cars.
