I've got a horrible cold. Every time I start coughing it feels like my

A gin gimlet (with Bombay gin Rose's lime juice works for me) so I doubt
it is the tonic water!

I only wish I could get a doctors prescription for the stuff.

I have to say, eating more veggies will likely make you feel better soon, but
my feeling is that the consequential lowered meat consumption will help you

That doesn't help you feel better today though.

Hope you feel better soon!

I've been doing the more veggies thing for about a year now. I used to
eat out all the time and when I did I got plenty of veggies. I'd start
at the salad end of the buffet graze my way down toward the veggies.
I'd usually get full up before I even got to the meats. I seldom ate red
meat anyway, relying on fish or chicken for my protein, although I do
still have to have my bacon 'n eggs at least once a week.

That's actually been going on for several years, because as I got older
beef just seems harder to digest. I can go for months without it and not
be bothered at all.

But preparing most of my meals at home I didn't get as many choices.
Cooking is fun sometimes, a PITA at others ... and I hate washing
dishes, so for a while there I was living on sandwiches microwave
meals (and *COOKIES!!*).

I've been trying to follow instructions and cut back on sweets for
several months. That's turning out to be like Since I gave up wine and
women, I don't feel much like singing anymore. And I've kind of had the
blues since finishing school. Got to find a new purpose for life I
haven't found work yet. I don't have to give up sweets completely (yet),
but I am having to restrict them a lot more than I want to.

Taking up daily exercise again is a recent addition. I used to be fairly
active until I had surgery a year ago and have been too sedentary since
then.

I've been meaning to become more active, but recently I noticed more and
more of my trousers are too tight around the waist, so I figured now's
the time to do something more than just think about it. The guy on the
bicycle really was more insult than injury. My pride and my dignity
suffered most. The bruises are already fading.

Anyway, I appreciate all the good wishes from everyone. I was grumpy
about it, but I had a place to vent, so I feel better already. Cold's
almost gone too.

Back in the early or so 1970s, there was one of those pen-and-ink
cartoons in Playboy. A guy is sitting on the examining table in a
doctor's office, talking to the doctor.

Doctor: You've got to stop smoking, drinking, and womanizing.
Patient: If I do all that, will I live longer?
Doctor: Maybe, maybe not. But it'll sure /seem/ longer.

Then, a year or two later, another pen-and-ink cartoon, by the same
artist. In a doctor's examining room, a guy sits on the examining
table. He looks like Methuselah's grandfather, just decrepit as heck.

Patient: Well, I quit smoking, drinking, and womanizing, just like you
 said.
Doctor: That's great. You remember that I told you you'd live longer
if you did all that?
Patient: Yep!
Doctor: Well, welcome to those extra years.
