If the sales person was truly perceived as "making fun" (ridiculing) the
camera, he either picked the wrong shopper or his routine needs work.
He must to be aware that precise language and inflections could easily be lost

a bad idea to make fun of something a customer is carrying ... at least

I guess it depends where you are.

A week or so back I spent half of the day (my wife's birthday, no less!)
at an R/C model aircraft meet.  There weren't a whole lot of cameras around;
apart from one guy with a Canon+400/2.8 on a Wimberley rig I only saw a few
other DSLRs there. I did, however, see two guys toting K1000s.
I was trying (and mostly failing) to track small objects, some of which were
flying at over 150mph*, with my 300+1.7x, and even then most of the time all
I could see was a small object in the middle of a large expanse of sky. One
of the K1000 shooters was standing fairly near me, trying to shoot the same
subjects with a 135mm (some third-party brand I didn't even recognise), so
I let him use my 80-200 for a couple of rolls of film.

* Scale model jet aircraft, with real jet engines, burning around a gallon
of kerosene in a five-minute flight.

I had some soccer mom tell me the other day that I should ditch all my
film gear and get a "digital", all the while waving her little Kodak
in my face or holding it at arm's length for shaky snapshots of her
ugly kids standing in front of something passably touristy.
Unfortunately, this not an uncommon occurrence. I briefly considered
the camera as weapon approach, but then told her in words loud enough
for her brats to hear that no one interested in actually looking at
the photos later on would be caught dead with that piece of shit.

I've been cranky lately.

Re: How to lose a sale

2009-07-23 Thread Xavier Cremaschi

make him understand how misplaced were his words.

Then just leave (without buying anything of course)
