Jeff, One more thing to keep in mind is that Pentax has, at times, replaced a body fairly soon after its release. The PZ-1 turned PZ-1p and ZX-5 turned ZX-5n. That works well for me...especially there is no way I can afford the product now. :) As I read more, it sounds as if the additional focusing areas would be cool if the autofocus mechanism was faster/more accurate. I would spring for the $$$ eventually for that. You are comparing a ten year old camera sold at discount price with a brand new one. Some of us bought the Z-1p before Pentax decided to dump it in order to clear stock. Hence, I paid the same for the Z-1p as I now pay for the MZ-S. If the Z-1p is all you need in a camera theres no point in buying an MZ-S or any other camera on the planet. RE: MZ-S (Please help me understand)
Well, I'm sure you'll get a lot of good reasons from folks telling you why the MZ-S is worth the difference in price. I haven't seen that much money's worth in feature differences, myself, but that's only *my* opinion. At current PZ-1p prices, you could pretty much buy two of them for the price of an MZ-S. Is an MZ-S worth twice as much as a PZ-1p? I haven't seen anything that would convince me of that, so far. I do, however, plan to give one a test drive to see if I will buy one or not. RE: MZ-S (Please help me understand)
For me it starts with the question of comfort. I did not get the PZ-1 because after about ten minutes I could not hold the camera. It was uncomfortable to me. The MZ-S is totally different. It reminds me of the LX in terms of comfort. Ultimately, I have to enjoy carrying the camera so that it is with me to take pictures. I will not address any other points because I am sure they will come up. But you do always owe it to yourself to handle a camera before buying it.
