Tan, I do the same thing too. Three of my grandchildren were here for the last two days, and taking shots of them dancing you have to be quick, no time to muck about with menus and buttons. The alternative is manual focussing, pre-set usually to where the action point will be - a technique I used when there was a sack-race for the kids at another grandchild's birthday recently. I have to say that I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to some of the fancy features on today's digital cameras: it's sometimes hard to see the point (pun intended!). I think it was Weegee who said that the secret of his success in photography was "F8 and be there" - I go along with that. Re: For those who wants spec sheets before announcement
I think you would benefit from choosing a focus point in situations where DOF is minimal. Repositioning after locking in focus slightly alters the distance from lens to subject. It can be a significant difference when shooting a tight portrait, for example, with a lens of moderate focal length -- say a 40 mm lens. When shooting moving kids I usually go for the center spot on top or in the second row. That comes closer to the eye level than does the center spot. Changing focal points is quick and easy once you get used to it. My thumb now does it automatically, and my brain nows that if I'm on the top spot and want to go to the left spot in the second row from the bottom, it's three clicks down and one left. If you're shooting action you often are very constrained as to which shutter speeds you can use; shoot race cars (or cyclists) at too fast a shutter speed and you lose all of the sense of motion. I used to do almost all my race photography at ISO 100 (Provia 100F, in the film days); ISO 200 was faster than I really wanted. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: For those who wants spec sheets before announcement
If the native sensibility of the Sony sensor is iso200 as it often is (with Sony), iso 100 is already less than nominal sensitivity. iso80 is surprising IMO. Less would be too harmful I believe. I expect everything below 200 to be in extended mode only as well as 25600 and 51200iso. There's no replacement for ND filter but as Mark Roberts said, it is good to be there, just we need to know we are losing using that setting. 2010/9/19 Adam Maas : > On Sun, Sep 19, 2010 at 10:56 AM, Ann Sanfedele wrote: >> Mark Roberts wrote: >> >>> Thibouille wrote: >>> >>> http://www.priyantha.nl/GoT/Pentax_K-5/K5_specs_pg1_verkleind.jpg 7fps, HDR with auto align, 80-51200iso (!!) >>> >>> I'm more interested in the ISO going down to 80 than up to 51200. Cheers, Mike I have -6 diopters in each of my (weary) eyes. As a matter of course I use both Pentax eye cap magnifier and Katz Eye focusing screen. I feel considerable eye strain after more than 1-2 hours of shooting with A 50/1.2 even in bright Mediterranean light. Since it would seem that K-5 and K-7 would have the same viewfinder, you don't necessarily have to shell out for K-5. Though of course these cameras offer great many additional advantages of your K100D. In fact, if it is the manual lenses that you're using, you might be better off with applying Pentax K to Canon EOS adapter to their full frame bodies, such as Canon 5D...
