Re: Tamron P/KA adapter

Go from a D to a Ds to a K20 regularly and you'll go slightly crazy.
Once you get used to one everything is in the wrong place on the
others. I expect to get a K-5 in about a year, and use the K20 as a
backup, that should be loads of fun. At least on the Ds the e-wheel is
in the same place as the back wheel on the K20.

If you haven't tried this already, completely remove, clean, and re-mount the

It took me about 10 attempts to figure out just how it attaches and interacts

issue with my Tamron 90mm f/2.5 macro lens, removing that mount and reattaching
it made everything alright (for now).

Tamron P/KA adapter

2010-12-27 Thread Barry Rice
Hey Pentaxians

I do my macro work using a Tamron 90mm 1:1 F2.8 macro, which is a generic
lens that sits on a Pentax P/KA mount. Unfortunately, the lens is starting
to act erratically and I've figured out that it is because of the adaptall
mount.

Unfortunately, I've discovered that the Pentax adaptall mount for automatic
lenses are no longer being made, rumour has it they were unreliable,
although my mount lasted for about 12 years. The regular Pentax P/K mount is
useless for this lens (I know, I have one.)

I've seen references to some other kind of mount, M42 or something like
that. Can someone 'splain to me if this is something I can use to bring my
extremely cherished 90mm back to life? I think it is a generic mount that
needs some kind of Pentax add-on?

Cheers

Barry, few years ago I had Tamron 90/2.5 macro (older one) with PK-A
Adaptall adapter. It worked just fine only occasionally having electric
contact problems due to minute mechanical shift of a lens w.r.t.
adapter. I am thinking that you could find yourself another such adapter
(PK-A) on eBay or other venues that offer second hand gear and in
principle it might solve your problem.

I did not find this little issue anything more than a minor nuisance at
the time. Sold the lens only because I wanted to buy significantly more
expensive FA 31/1.8 Limited and had no money available...

Tamron P/KA adapter

2010-12-27 Thread Barry Rice
Hey Boris

OK, some more back story. I love my 90mm so much, that about 8 years ago I
bought a second one for the day that something happened to my first one. I
even bought an adaptall for it, but for some damnable reason I didn't
assemble the two to make sure they worked.

(I know what you're thinking--this is the exact same reason the problem with
the Hubble Space Telescope wasn't noticed until after launch.)

It turns out the adaptall that I bought was just a P/K, and not a P/KA.

So, now I'm in the market for TWO adapters. I just bought one on eBay--it is
supposedly coming my way from the UK.

But I'm wondering if there's a new technology--that's the source of my
curiosity regarding the M43 mount.

My experience is much the same. I have a Tamron 90mm/2.5 with an
adaptall KA mount. Whenever the mount stops sending info to the camera,
I find just trying to turn the lens slightly clockwise/anti-clockwise
re-establishes contact (it only moves fractionally). You can find these
adapters on EBay but they tend to be a bit pricey these days - you may
have to pay $70 to $100 for one (second hand).

I'm a bit confused when you say you can't use a normal PK adaptall
mount. Are you using the lens on a DSLR? - because the lens with PK
mount should work in the same way as any pre-A series K mount, using the
green button method in Manual mode. Before I got a KA adaptall mount I
used a normal PK mount on the lens very successfully. I just tried it
again and it works fine.

You can get a M42 adaptall mount for the lens and use it with the Pentax
M42/K adapter but I don't see how that would be a better solution than
the PK adapter.

Re: Tamron P/KA adapter

2010-12-27 Thread Boris Liberman
Barry, all Pentax DSLRs allow stop-down metering with K and M lenses.
P/K adapter falls in that category. Depending on your camera you may
have to consult user manual for specifics. Therefore, in principle P/K
adapter is good for you.

Personally, I found metering of /my/ K10D in stop-down mode rather
unreliable and opted not to have any pre KA-mount lenses. Thus, I
haven't had a chance to try K-7 with this regard.

I don't know of there is adaptall m43 (I take it you refer to micro 4/3
system here) adapter, but there might be and surely it is worth the try.
Theoretically, it is known that K-m43 adapter does exist and you may
want to mount your adaptall lens with P/KA adapter on K-m43 adapter for
use with m43 bodies. Theoretically it could work. But I haven't tried it
'cause I've no m43 cameras. May be Godfrey and others on the list who
have these cameras can give more useful insight.
