The PDML List Demographic and JCO

2007-04-03 Thread Mark Erickson
JC,

I believe that the PDML list consists of photo enthusiasts with a specific
interest in Pentax equipment.

I believe that the PDML list consists largely of intelligent, thoughtful
participants.

I believe that PDML list participants use the list to share information and
images with each other.

I believe that most PDML list members look for messages that include
information, links to galleries, and the odd witty interchange involving
Cotty.

I believe that most PDML list members do not appreciate ALL CAPS RANTS.

I believe that most PDML list members do not appreciate being lectured about
what kind of audio, visual, or computer hardware they should own, in
particular when the lecture comes in the form of an ALL CAPS RANT.

Do you believe that your ALL CAPS RANTS and aggressive message add any value
at all to the PDML? IF so, can you explain why without resorting to an ALL
CAPS RANT?

ALL CAPS MEANS I AM PISSED OFF.
If you actually read what is being said
in the posts I am replying to
you would understand. I dont
start these things but people
simply refuse to not get personal
when they dont have to and they
do it FIRST. I just reply in kind.
Like calling me elitest schmuck because
I use and recommend a much better
screen setup even AFTER I told
them it cost less than $200 NEW.
Thats really not making any sense
whatsoever. Its a personal attack
to attempt to win a losing argument,
plain and simple...

John, please. Take a chill pill and come back when you're less
emotionally invested. You have good points to make. But they get lost
in the argumentation. Take an anti-lesson from our politicians ...
present your position and let the world accept or ignore you at its
whim. That's life. Even when you're right, factually, you can be
wrong, emotionally. And vice versa.

Bottom line, we're all individuals. You have lots to contribute to the
PDML, but it's getting lost in the vitriol. Please do yourself and all
of us a favor and take a "debate team pill" ... one need not get
emotionally invested in a debate ... even when the topic cuts close to home.

screw you, I dont seek anything but the truth
and the truth is anyone using old display
resolutions shouldnt be complaining to me about
how they find 1200 pixel images "frustrating",
they should be fixing the "problem"
on their end if their system is not up
to the task of displaying these... My system
which is neither state of art, nor expensive
displays them fine...Reducing them in size is not
the answer in my opinion because the COST
in reduced image quality is too high..

RE: The PDML List Demographic and JCO

2007-04-06 Thread Bob W
I really think you should go back to the beginning of the thread about
resolution, and read it again. What you will see is John reacting
perfectly reasonably to a few initially friendly comments about the
size of the photos he posted. He explained that it was a quick & dirty
gallery, and explained why he didn't want to make the pictures
smaller. Later he also explained that if he was putting up a more
professional gallery he would include smaller overview-type pictures
linking to the larger ones.

What you will also see is that people started to include increasingly
sarcastic unprovoked and snippy personal comments and nasty little
insults intended to goad him. When that was successful people
immediately launched into full scale bullying and criticism of him.

If people hadn't started to snipe at him the thread would have petered
out like any other. But this list has developed a nasty little habit
of picking on John at every little opportunity. It's ugly and it's
time it stopped.

RE: The PDML List Demographic and JCO

2007-04-06 Thread Tim Øsleby
My post was written in a context, and was intended read in the same context.

The context was that John claimed a tactic of responding to others
aggression. As I read him, the tactic is to scare people off from attacking
him again.
Based on the results of this tactic so far, I humbly suggested another
tactic.

Based on the reactions I've said more than enough on this, so now I'm
shutting up ;-)
