Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: SlimRemote - a remote control application for PC and PDA
I am anxious to see if I can get this running on my ePods (http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/index.html), which runs WinCE V2.11 (very old) on a MIPS CPU. Currently, I run a version of the What's the ePods' screen resolution? handheld skin (you developed that, didn't you?) No, I didn't, I only re-worked it. And I do care about it as I'm using it more than any other skin. but Internet Explorer (V4) performance on the ePods is very poor ... I am curious to see how this compares. I'd be interested, too. There's a big difference between my Pentium M 1.5GHz and the Zaurus. But it's mainly the GUI that is redrawn slowly. As most of the search and browsing logic is done on the server, speed in navigating through the music collection mainly depends on the latter, not the client. I experienced big improvements when I moved from SQLite to MySQL (about 30% faster response times on a Via C3/1GHz). I've posted a question on the Ewe forum to see if I might be able to get this working. If I do, I'll let you know how it looks/works! Thanks for doing so. Michael (Ewe's author, not me ;-)) usually is pretty quick in answering questions. Does SlimRemote use the SlimServer settings for album/artist/compilation behavior? I don't know... I'm using the CLI, just telling the server to give me the list of albums, or the list of tracks for a given album etc. It's the server which decides what I'm getting. I tried it out on my PC, it worked fine but seemed to be showing me all artists on compilation albums even though I have SlimServer set to group compilation albums together and list albums by band (and have the "compilation" tag set in my WMA files). I don't quite follow. I think it's time I'm buying a compilation album of some sort... Could you give me an example, the way how you navigate in the web interface and in SlimRemote, what you expect, what you get etc. Thanks for the feedback! -- Michael --- Help translate SlimServer by using the SlimString Translation Helper (http://www.herger.net/slim/) ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I can't get anything but the exit key to work on my windows smartphone and the window size is a bit too big. Otherwise it updates correctly and displays a portion of the album cover. I'm switching to a pocketpc soon so its not a big deal but I saw this on the EWE forum and it might apply. Not sure if this is something you want to tackle but here it is... ..."you will have to change you GUI to be Smartphone aware. Smartphones do not generally have touch screens so if you are in a situation where the cursor key cannot navigate to a button, then the Smartphone user will not be able to activate it. Remember you can simpulate a smartphone on your desktop by using the /s option with the VM and in your code you can use Gui.isSmartphone value to determine if the application is running on a smartphone. Basically in the code that is creating the forms look at the variable Gui.isSmartPhone. If it is true then you should re-arrange your Form so that it fits better on the small screen - probably double line your input fields and don't put multi-line text inputs (since they capture the up/down keys and won't let you switch to another field). Also you would then want to use the softkey menu system instead of a menu bar or a set of buttons to accept commands. Actually - generally the way you would write smartphone applications is so different (in terms of UI) that you may want to have two versions of the application to cut down on the size of the application classes (otherwise half the UI code would be used on one platform and the other half on the other platform). Also - if the user says that he can't get the cursor keys to work even though they do work using the '/s' options - then send me the .ewe file and I'll confirm on my smartphone and maybe find out why it may be working differently - I've always found it to work the same on my smartphone as with the '/s' option. " Maybe I am doing something wrong but it appears that smartphone support is someting you have to code differently. Correct me if I am wrong. Looks really cool..nice work! I'm glad it's working - I did not have the chance yet to test it on a PocketPC. I mainly developped on Windows and tested on Linux (SlimCD :-)) and Zaurus. Considering this the first public release, I think you've done excellent work. Thanks. It does not have much logic besides the GUI and relies heavily on the CLI (thanks Fred and Jeff!). This allows to easily browse large lists even on a PDA. There's a "now playing" screen with cover art, a clickable progress bar to jump within songs etc. It is implemented in a javaish language called Ewe (http://www.ewesoft.com/). If both the browser w/ plugin and the AlienBBC run on the same PC then it is possible they are using different URLs as there a number of RealAudio and WMA ones. That is the point I was pursuing. The broadcast rights between UK and Rep.ofIre. are managed very tightly esp with N. Ireland being part of UK and spillover as there are many vested interests (e.g. Sky, BBC, ITV, RTE, Setanta) and shared events (rugby, soccer, horse racing, golf) and the internet access to ireland are well defined through a small number of interconnects so it is easy to detect routing to an irish end point. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22056 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

The closest I know of is when you're playing an album that has a name the same as another album, as SlimServer will assume the tracks from both albums actually belong to the same album. Is that what you're getting? If not, read on... Which version are you using? I'm not sure that would be relevant unless it's a really old one, but it might help me. Can you describe the steps you go through to get this problem? Ie something like: select "album/track/artist" search, enter three search characters, wait two seconds, see x results, scroll down, press play. Assuming it's a track search, when you play that track is the one you get one with the same name (or very similar), or totally different?
