Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-01-18 Thread Paul_B

Sorry to ask such a trivial question (I did search this thread first).
Where in the Windows version does the log file get created?

I'm having problems with the plugin and suspect it is a policy or user
permission issue. I'm running Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate in a domain
environment. Running the commands of scpowertool interactively works
fine. My SC is running as a service as a specific user that has local
admin over the box.

I do have a large playlist - 700 odd tracks. But have no problem
accessing it elsewhere on my network.

When choosing an album to listen to by going through the artists route,
I can be playing a track on the squeezebox through the normal remote in
a matter of seconds.

iPeng takes 2-3 minutes just to show me my artist list. I even have to
reactivate the iPhone as it turns itself off whilst waiting, iPeng takes
so long :(

but I still get the message "this is not an internal comand, external
comand, program or comand file",
which is really such a pitty as the combination SPOTIFY and SQ should
have been perfect. I really hope the Logitec will set up a cooperation
with SPOTIFY so we could have it incl. in SC in the same way as e.g the
existing Live Musich Archive.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-01-18 Thread pippin

Well,
That's the price for some of the features.
Fetching the current playlist from SC takes long, your IR remote only
shows you 3 tracks at a time, whith iPeng you have access to the whole
thing.
It will improve with the next version but long playlists will probably
proceed to be an issue on startup. iPeng should readct much faster when
that's loaded. You did have a fast server, didn't you?

On the other lists: those are being cached on the device so it should
only take long to load them the first time. Try Squidgy for comparison,
there you are probably in for a several minute wait before you even get
access to the browse menus.

Again: how big is your database?

While it is of course possible to adjust almost anything altering the

I just tested my Ipeng on a 500 long playlist and it loaded in about
5-8 seconds. Something isn't right about your setup I think. It's
been real fast for me and I really like it so I hope you get it sorted

"Well, that's the price for some of the features?" Sorry, and with all
respect, perhaps a warning along the lines of "don't spend £5.99 on this
if you have a large playlist in your library" might be in order then.

I shall just put this down as a bad purchase then if that's your
attitude to support :(

WeatherTime is working nicely on SC7.4 for me.

However, one minor observation is that whenever I restart SC and my players
reconnect, the WeatherTime screensaver runs but doesn't get the latest weather
- I get the WeatherTime loading... message. If I power-on to idle mode, and
then power-off back to the screensaver, it loads and displays fine.

Last try.

Download the attached file runwav.bat.txt into the directory
C:\Documents and Settings\owner

Check the file is there and rename it to runwav.bat

Open the command prompt window (i.e. run cmd) and you should have the
prompt C:\Documents and Settings\owner>

Type runwav.bat followed by enter/return.

This batch file should run the wavin2cmd with the command option. It
will first display a banner "running wavin2cmd"

copy output to a post.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-01-18 Thread BigG123

I upgraded to the latest version of Squeeze Centre yesterday and the
latest version of Alien BBC.

I can listen to live and listen again streams fine thru my Squeezebox
and SoftSqueeze, but on my Slimp3 no joy. On the Slimp3 it seems to
connect and the time starts counting, but no sound. If I go through to
the properties on the slim it is saying that it is converting to a
320kbps mp3 stream.

The conversion to Mp3 from Flac works fine on the Slimp3, so with that
I'm assuming that lame is ok,

Any thoughts advice would be welcome,

Thanks in advance,

2009-01-18 Thread Jimsngc

Guys,

I finally figured this out although I don't know that I fully
understand what each of the fields is supposed to do here.

This is what I put in the Player settings for the SDT plugin:
ON/ON
%e %H %j <*Blank - does not seem to matter what I put here
%z Rise %s %1__
PREC %x Set %S

At first nothing would display on the right hand side but eventually it
began to show. it may simply have been that I was not giving the plugin
enough time to update - I had to wait 30 seconds or so after hitting
Save Settings for the changes to reflect on the player.

* A question about this field - where should fields included here
display on the player? I was hoping I could force the display on my
SB3 to have 3 Lines on the left and 2 lines on the right but try as I
might I can only get 1 Line on the right of the display? Any ideas on
that?

Hi Neil-

If you're using the Default SC skin, click the 'Settings' link on the
lower right hand corner. Then click on the 'Player' tab. Select the
player name you wish to configure from the dropdown. On the second
dropdown, which probably shows 'Basic Settings' choose 'SuperDateTime'.
Make your changes and hit 'Apply'.

Hope this helps

Hi Jim-

You should have had default values set to begin with... but regardless
let me explain. First yes/no is if you want a weather icon. Second
yes/no is if you want the 3line text fields. The 3 vertically stacked
fields are what goes in each of the 3lines if you have 3line text
enabled. The 3line text uses a small custom font. The next two lines
refer to two vertically stacked fields. The plugin will attempt to
space these fields so they don't overlap the 3line text. There's a lot
of special logic in that. These two lines behave in a manner parallel
to other text displays used throughout your squeezebox. Basically if
you're using a 2line enabled font you'll see two lines of text. If you
hit the size button until you're displaying the large font, then only
the bottom of the two text fields will be displayed. However, there
are special cases where the plugin will apply special logic to what is
displayed when using the large font to make the plugin more useful.

Yes, changes to a display setting will be slightly lagged. The plugin
waits x seconds whenever a change is made before refreshing its data.
This is to allow the user time to make any addition changes to sports,
etc. before it goes refreshing the data again. The refreshing process
takes some time as web parsing can be processing intensive and since
most of SC is single threaded I include some waits to help prevent SC
from short freezes. During the refresh process the plugin also 'draws'
all the possible icon/3line text screens for all the players and caches
them. These draws are done at the pixel level and are also processor
intensive.

I probably told you more than you wanted to hear... but regardless hope
it helps you and others understand...

-Greg

Sorry, I AM trying to help here. Read this thread and you will know my
attitude to support.
I was trying to find out if there's something else I can do to help you
and you don't even answer my questions.

All I was saying is that there are technical differences between how
iPeng handles things and the way the IR remote does.
iPeng usually is very responsive. The problem is NOT if you have and
long playlists in your collection, it's if you have a _current_
playlist that is long. iPeng is not able to guess what's in there and
SC sometimes doesn't deliver data quick. Future versions will improve
on that but that's how it is today.

Please PM me a paypal account or something similar and I will refund
your purchase. I'm sorry to see that you are unhappy with the product,
many others like it well. I cannot help you if you don't let me
approach you, I don't think this leads anywhere.

Playlists with up to several hundred items CAN load fast. But if you
have a slow server or connection and iPeng is still synchronizing the
database and the database is large and maybe you play that 700 item
playlist shuffled so that it has to be reloaded every track change
and...

He didn't give me any more details about his database or setup even
after asking twice so it will be hard to figure out what exactly the
issue here is.

Right clicking saves a file, but it isn't a valid zip file, it's just a
html file with some information about a 404 error.

The link that starts with "mesh.dl" works perfectly but that's not what
the repository xml file points to at the moment.

SrvrPowerCtrl logs in a couple of different places:

For the plugin itself, if you turn logging on via SC
Settings->Advanced->Logging->SrvrPowerCtrl->debug, the plugin posts
messages to SC's server.log. You can see the log via web interface
using the links at SC Settings->Information->Squeeze Center Log File.
On linux systems, that link shows the location of the log file on disk.
Presumably, it will on a Vista box too.

SCPowerTool.exe, by default, posts it's log to SCPowerTool.log which
will be located in the same directory as the exe. I'm not sure if
Vista will interfere with that if SCPowerTool.exe is located in a
protected directory.

I also included a "--log=logfilepath.log" option. Using that, you
ought to be able to put SCPowerTools' log anywhere you like. One
caveat: SC's prefs system doesn't seem to support storing string data
with quotes in it. So, the path to the log file either can't contain
any spaces or you need to use the short path, e.g.:

--log=C:\temp\DIRONE~1\DIRTWO~1\SCPOWE~1.LOG instead of
"--log=C:\temp\Dir one\Dir two\SCPowerTool.log"

I haven't tried to compile and link a 64b version of the exe. Do you
think a 64b version of SCPowerTool.exe would make the difference here?

I do have a copy of Vista 64 business installed on one of my machines.
But it's been well over a year since I booted from that partition and
I'm very fearful of the nasty things it's likely to say to me for
having ignored it for so long. Eventually, I imagine that the DSM will
contain a specific diagnostic term to describe "fear of an operating
system." OSophobia?

If you manage to sort this out, (if, e.g. you need to make changes to
local group policies or something) please post your findings here and
I'll incorporate them into the readme.

Thanks!

I appreciate your response, and sorry if I came across a bit arsey.
But some of the comments in your response did seem a little dismissive.
No hard feelings though.

I don't want a refund, as I am aware that a lot of people ARE happy and
also I am aware that you are still developing it and that future
versions MIGHT work for me.

I don't know if you are aware of Simplify Media? The early versions of
that just wouldn't work at all for me (and a lot of others) but after
the fifth or sixth revision it is now my most used app and is simply
superb.

I have hopes that iPeng will work for me eventually.

I don't know about the speed of my server by the way. My music is
installed on an external hard disc which is networked. Squeeze center
is installed on a laptop along with my itunes data.

I currently have an album rather than the large playlist playing on my
squeezebox so going to load up ipeng and see if it is a caching issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Should custom skip work when shuffle by song is on?

I have it enabled for all playlists and percentage 100%. It is working
most of the time. It doesn't skip if the song right before it was
manually skipped, so I think the problem is just that my manual
skipping is interfering.

For normal playlists, I am now just clicking that artist's name and
using the X in the left of the WebUI to take them all out at once.

I'm just trying to get through rating my last few hundred tracks, which
is going GREAT thanks to your new Trackstat Playlists plugin! Once
that's done I should not need to be skipping so much all the time.

OK. Let's see.
Did you see the comments in previous posts on how caching works?
iPeng will load Albums, Artist, Genres and Playlists in the backgroud.
On a resonably fast server, that should take around 1 min for a 1.000
album library. The required time increases with database size more than
proportionally, the largest library I used so far had 14.400 Albums and
took 8-10 min for synchronization.

BUT: iPeng SHOULD stay responsive during that time!

If you have any lags that are similar to what you described before,
this has to be something else, I would guess something with your
network setup.
An XP server SHOULD be fast enough, the data source does not really
matter.
What DOES sometimes slow down my XP installation is the iTunes
integration, but that'S only true while the server is scanning the
library but then can drag down performance a lot.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-01-18 Thread BigG123

Thankyou both,

I'm using the latest public release:
- Version: 7.3.1 - 24372 @ Fri Dec 19 17:56:44 PST 2008
- Alien BBC (v2.4a4-7.3)
- This is running on Windows (2k3 Server SP2)

I've just tried bitrate limiting on the Squeezebox, same problem as the
Slimp3.

However, having had a look at suggested at the custom-convert.conf file
and after a bit of fiddling the following solves the problem:
edit the lame part of the mp3 line to the following:
[lame] --silent -r -x -q $QUALITY$ $RESAMPLE$ -v $BITRATE$ - -

This solves the problem for both the Slimp3 and the bitrate limiting on
the squeezebox.

Thanks again for the pointers,

G

There is a problem in the xml, it refers to:
http://spicefly.f-snet.com/SpiceflyWeather1.1.1.zip/SugarCube1.8.3.zip

Where it should refer to:
http://spicefly.f-snet.com/SugarCube1.8.3.zip

Google Code works perfectly but I think you will need to use its svn
repository, not the file download mechanism. If you look at several of
the other repositories, you can see that they use Google Code, for
example mine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [LINUX] How to start squeezeslave automaticly on startup

I've added an additional startup parameter to squeezeslave (--daemonize
or -M) to daemonize the process. This way, you can use it in your
startup scripts.

I've attached squeezeslave.c (based on 0.8.24 from sourceforge), and a
startup script as it works on fedora core. It's not a patch because I
don't have the actual repository branch checked out...

The code could be cleaned up a bit though (the INTERACTIVE stuff could
be moved to a seperate file to keep it readable, with a plugin-like
model).

Kind regards,
Ivor

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] faulty softsqueeze startup with linux (kubuntu)

2009-01-18 Thread ivy

Hi,

.jnlp files are indeed Java web start related. I'm sure some of the
readers could make educated guesses about what goes wrong if you
provide:

- the OS you're working on (i.e. Windows XP or linux ubuntu 8.0.4)
- the Java version you're working with (try "java -version" on the
command line)
- any (error) messages the system produces
- whether you have other processes using the soundcard (mostly
important on linux with alsa)

Without some info it will become a long list of guesses.

Good luck,
Ivor

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Playlist Generator, easy way to generate initial static playlists

2009-01-18 Thread teeitup

I too will use this plugin. I have been playing around with it this
weekend.

There isn't a predefined definition that does everything I want. The
features I want are in separate definitions but not together. I looks
as if I could create my own Custom SQL but I'm not sure how to do it.
I've saved off two custom queries and will try and piece them
together.

I would like to have the include/exclude genres as well as no
duplicates in existing playlists together.

My questions are...

If I make a mistake in my SQL query can I damage the database?

What does "Generate order (1-100)" do?

Are people sharing custom templates? The download link seems to
indicate there is.

When I click on the "Download more playlist templates" link it says I
need a templates directory, where should I put this?

Thanks alot,

Thanks for the idea. Though I already have a stereo connection from my
computer seperate from the SB. I will check it out anyway. It is just
too bad that I cannot remote control XM Radio anylonger. Hopefully
someone else besides logitech gets the itch to fix it.

I'm not sure I understand what you want, do you want a playlist that
doesn't contain tracks which you already have in other saved playlists
?

If this is the case you can do it in two step:
1. Create a new playlist based on one of the "Advanced..." templates
that uses the include/exclude genres
2. Create a second playlist using the "Dependent playlist" template
that includes the playlist generated in step 1 but excludes all your
other playlists.

The playlist created in step 2 should get you what you want if I
interpret you correctly.

Not as long as your playlist start with the word "select". If you
create a SQL that uses words like "drop", "delete", "update" or
"create" there is always a risk that you destroy something if you don't
know what you are doing.

If you select to generate all playlists using the Custom Scan
interface, they will be generated in this order. The playlists with a
low number will be generated first, the playlists with a high number
later. Usually you just want to make sure that playlists that are
dependent on other playlists are generated later by entering a high
number of these.

None has been shared so far, so you may be the first. The main purpose
of the download links is to make it easy for me to publish fixes on
pre-defined template without making a completely new release of the
plugin.

There is a setting in "SqueezeCenter Settings/Plugins/Playlist
Generator" where you should specify this directory. It's used when you
download templates from Internet. You'll need to create the directory
in advance and then specify it here. It can be placed anywhere where
the user running the SqueezeCenter software has write access.

Ever figure out a fix for this? I for the life of me can't figure out
why it isn't displaying now.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Playlist Generator, easy way to generate initial static playlists

2009-01-18 Thread teeitup

Thank you for the replay and information.

You did understand what I was to accomplish.

You've written quite a few plugins. I have a hard time understanding
all of the capabilities of each.

Generating playlists is a lot of work. This plugin can sure make them
easier to create.

My hangup is I want variety without repeats. I use the random mix
option a lot but random is random and it's surprising how many repeats
I get.

I've settled on the arbitrary number of 100 songs in a playlist.
(100 X 3 min.)/60 = 5 hours give or take.

I would like each one to be completely unique. I'm just looking for a
fast and easy way to make them. This plugin is a big help.
