Actually, as of now, upgrades on the App Store are always free, if you

Any thought to this or development?

I have already put it in my repository, which is in the list of repositories in
the wiki (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories).

That doesn't make it any easier to find, because the wiki is ridiculously slow,

I find that whenever I use pause on a listen again I nearly always end
up back at the start of the program. When unpausing it seems to carry
on playing for a while then it jsut flips back the start of the whole
program. I think that the time it continues playing relate to the
duration of the pause (not really measured). I had the same issue when
I used Alien as well.

Haven't seen any reference to this elsewhere, but whenever I press
pause while listening to a listen again source (as opposed to live) the
player seems to lose it's position, and acts more like a mute function.

So at the moment I end up having to download stuff I want to be sure to
listen to by using get_iplayer, which is a pity.

I haven't done any serious measurements, but it certainly seems to lose
position after just a few minutes.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Anyways, thanks for a very nice plugin.

Which ISP are you with? I suspect it may have nothing to do with your
home network at all, but is possibly something to do with your internet
supplier blocking or shaping the feeds. I have read reports of some
ISPs struggling with the bandwidth used by iPlayer and reducing its
priority on their systems. I have, very occasionally, had problems at
peak times with iPlayer on both Be* before I migrated and O2 since.
The symptoms are rebuffering or the feed just stopping and going back
to the beginning of the program. I have not had the problem for a
couple of weeks now though, and generally I find it reliable for
play-it-again feeds.

However, like you, I can no longer hear any of the live feeds. But as
I have both DAB and FM I use those for live radio.

 MC

I note what you say about the laptop, but I still would not entirely
discount the internet connection. It depends how deep the buffer is
on each device and how good the WAN/LAN connection is generally.

I used to be on PlusNet myself (actually Metronet - when they were
taken over by PlusNet) and left because of the shaping they applied
to my connection. PN were the first UK ISP to introduce QOS
prioritising on their internet services (even boasted about it!) and I
would imagine they are still up to their old tricks. The following
suggests they may be...

http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/quality_broadband/traffic_prioritisation.shtml

http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/quality_broadband/load.shtml

I think it will depend a lot on which package you are on.

Most UK local loop unbundled services do not mess with the connection
at all. Be* and O2 (esp. if you have an O2 phone) are probably the best
of the bunch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm: Love this track

2009-03-09 Thread fistagon

I'm having similar issues with the 'Love this track' feature so I'd like
to second this request for a change in its implementation.

It's usually after I've had a Squeezebox-powered party of an evening I
find a bunch of new loved tracks the next day, curiously often tracks I
wouldn't love in a million years! As the original poster said, it's the
fact that this is the first option on the menu to the right of Now
Playing that's the issue; if the option was moved further down that
menu or into the 'On Last.fm...' submenu that'd probably mitigate it.

Manually removing the loved tracks later isn't really an option - even
if you do this the list of erroneously loved tracks stays in the
'Recent Events' feed on the website and cannot be deleted.

You are probably right. However, worth checking on this site:

There are a few (smaller) ISPs that definitely don't shape the

The one I was with before I went LLU, and that I would recommend to

http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/home.php

Not the cheapest, but they absolutely do not shape or manage their

problem if all your other streaming services are working OK.

The odd thing is that I was streaming play-it-again iPlayer streams
most of yesterday evening from around 8pm to midnight without a hitch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 Linux no longer transcoding WMA (other work though)

2009-03-09 Thread eschurig

bpa,

I'm trying to figure out how to install the softsqueeze update you
posted. The file I downloaded shows up as a zip file so I unzipped it
but I'm not sure where to put the file structure that was unzipped.

I've normally installed softsqueeze on my pc by bringing up
squeezecenter on a browser and clicking on the softsqueeze icon in
extras. Thus, I was assuming there must be some files (maybe a .jar)
on the server machine that was being extracted and installed on the pc
by this process but I haven't been able to locate anything. The nice
softsqueeze install automation has left me ignorant of what really
happens. If I put the zip file you sent in the correct location, can I
do my install the same way?

* Note current version of SoftSqueeze as detailed in SoftSqueeze
preferences.

Where is the preferences file?

* Download this patched version of SoftSqueeze.jar

Done, except that it is a zip file not a jar file which as I understand
is pretty much the same thing.

* Backup you current version of SoftSqueeze.jar in case you need to
revert.
* Replace current version of SoftSqueeze.jar by downloaded version.

I don't know where the current jar resides. I've done file searches
but can't find one on the pc where softsqueeze will run or linux server
where squeezecenter runs.

* Run new version of SoftSqueeze - make sure by checking version in
preferences.
and see if it fixes your problem.

How do I run the new version? I think I need to execute this through
java somehow and need to tell it how to find squeezecenter. Sorry for
my ignorance and thanks for your help.

As a side note, I installed your NPR plugin. Very nice! I can drive my
wife crazy with Car talk now.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse: browse by album artist

2009-03-09 Thread erland

It should work to create a Artists menu and just check the Album
Artist role. I suppose you have already tried this and this is what
gives you the empty menu ?

Two things to check:
1. If you look at the Song Info page of a song, does it show the
artist as Album Artist, Artist or Track Artist ? If it shows up
as Artist or Track Artist that's the reason why the menu is empty.

2. Do you get any errors in the SqueezeCenter log found through
SqueezeCenter Settings/Advanced/Logging when you enter the menu ?

If the above doesn't solve your problem could you describe which menu
template you have used and how you have configured the various
parameters ?

2009-03-09 Thread bpa

The Softsqueeze Preferences is the Settings Dialogue box - at the
bottom ir has a build something like 7.3. With my version it will be
something like CVS_BUILD

Softsqueeze.jar is the binary exe for SoftSqueeze which is executed
with the command
java -jar pathnameSoftSqueeze.jar

As it uses libraries relative to the jar file - it is best to replace
your current SoftSqueeze.jart by my one. Otherwise I think a
classpath parameter needs to be added.

Can you not do a find on your system for the file SoftSqueeze.jar ?

2009-03-09 Thread eschurig

I must have been too tired last night when I did the search because I
couldn't find SoftSqueeze.jar anywhere. Today it is easy to find. I
think I must have missed on the case of a letter or something. I now
find the file easily.

I redownloaded your .jar file on my linux machine. This maintained the
.jar extension as I would have expected. When downloading on windows
last night, the filename converted to Softsqueeze.zip which confused
me.

I can't find the version number. In squeezecenter settings under player
or by going through the softsqueeze menus to settings - player
information I find the following:

Player Model: softsqueeze
Firmware: 2
Player IP Address: 192.168.0.3
Player MAC Address: e6:4f:81:8e:8d:27

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Assuming I copy the .jar file into the proper location under
squeezecenter on my linux box, can I run it by accessing squeezecenter
with my browser from my windows pc and clicking on the softsqueeze icon
under extras? Since the jar file is on my linux machine, and I'm
running softsqueeze on my windows xp pc, I don't think I can simply run
the java command you suggested.

2009-03-09 Thread phlegm

Thanks altsim for the tip - works for me now on Windows Home Server.

RichA - I'll throw out some random points that may help:

-I upgraded to SqueezeCenter 7.3.2 first.
-Your plugins folder on WHS (Server 2003) is correct.
-Be sure you are using the .zip file that includes openSSL otherwise
you'll get a dependency error on a Windows box
(mlb-squeezeday...-openssl-0.9.8g.zip).
-I edited the install.xml file as recommended by altsim, restarted
SqueezeCenter and entered my credentials (as you've done)

One funky thing: even though I had previously entered valid credentials
in SqueezeCenter, I had to re-enter the same ones again to get it to
work. (The plugin settings area showed the correct username, but I
had to re-enter it a second time.)

I'm using an SB Boom, so not sure how close my experience is to yours.

Found it. I haven't looked at that in a long time and forgot where it
was. I'm running version 3.7.

I tried substituting your new SoftSqueeze.jar file for the existing one

shown below. Do I need to update the softsqueeze.jnlp file to make
this work? The jnlp file is for version 3.7.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2009-03-09 Thread ModelCitizen

9.15pm. I'm currently trying to listen to Friday's Now Show via iPlayer
plugin. Constant rebuffering, whether using direct or proxied stream
setting. Laptop and PC play the iPlayer stream perfectly. AlienBBC also
plays the Now Show listen again stream perfectly. Last.fm and Shoutcast
streaming is working fine (even with 192k streams)

Plus.net state that their bandwidth shaping treats all streaming the
same and does not differentiate between BBC iPlayer streams and any
other streams.

I'm well stumped.

2009-03-09 Thread raglencross

Not a problem! I can see from your other posts on this forum that you
are a busy man.

I take it that all inputs under the automatic/manual approach will be
done in the settings for Tunerplay and not require going to the VLC GUI
to select the required device every time the plugin is used? If so,
that looks good to me. It might be advisable to put a few lines of
instruction in Tunerplay settings explaining how to determine from VLC
which device to manually input.

I look forward to trying out the changes when you make them available.

Different BBC streams come from different content hosting partners of
the beeb - it could be that your isp doesn't have enough bandwidth to
the content host used for these streams. Afraid there's not much that
can be done other than suggest you use alien. The same xml based menus
are available from the Alternate Listen Again men.

I don't have any tracks with # in the path/filename, but I renamed a

MusicIP and SugarCube and only fails with SugarCube.

As mentioned by Pipedream, lately the MusicIP mixer has not been
updated. I have been running beta 6 for quite some time.

All I want is for SugarCube to recognize the so when SugarCube
tries to fetch tracks in my RB folder the dynamic playlist does not
stop or ignore the content in that folder.

The icing on the cake for me would be if the SugarCube developer was
able to add a key-combo shortcut from the remote to enable/disable the
plugin on the flight. Also the addition of some sort of visual flag
to the MusicInfoSCR plugin so that with one glace one could tell if the
plugin was enabled or disabled.

Hi there,

I have:

Basic Settings: Music Folder: = D:\shares\Music\NEWDESKTOP\D\My Music
iTunes: iTunes Music Folder: = D:\shares\Music\NEWDESKTOP\D\My Music

I thought this is right because they reside on the my home server,
hence use the home server address. iTunes.exe resides on my desktop and
my music folder is mapped to the network drive Z:.

If I look in iTunes_Hist.txt then it says:

Do you think I need to change my settings?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 Linux no longer transcoding WMA (other work though)

2009-03-09 Thread bpa

I don't know where SoftSqueeze.jar is found on your system but on Ubuntu
it is in
/usr/share/squeezecenter/server/HTML/EN/html/softsqueeze/

So you will have backed up the old SoftSqueeze.jar and copied the new
Softsqueeze.jar into this directory making sure permission / ownership
are the same as the old one.

Then run SoftSqueeze using the command
java -jar
/usr/share/squeezecenter/server/HTML/EN/html/softsqueeze/SoftSqueeze.jar

Test this command from a shell prompt and root user to avoid any
permission issues about audio hardware. Make sure audio hardware is
free and there is no other SoftSqueeze running.

2009-03-09 Thread bpa

I uploaded an unsigned version of SoftSqueeze.jar which is causing the
exception. The build process created a signed version but there are
signing warnings about expired certificates so I wouldn't be sure that
it would have no warnings either.

The version I provided is for testing only - if it works for you then
my patches can be checked into SoftSqueeze source code.

The item you want to play. Track, Playlist or Album (don't know if it
works for Artists).
Just like clicking something, but holding your finger down on it for a
second.
In this case, if you hold play playlist it should play the whole
playlist, if you do that for an item, just the item.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AutoRescan and linux

2009-03-09 Thread the_arm

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
I just noticed that autorescan is no longer working on my ubuntu 8.10
linux box. I'm running the latest squeezecenter that has been pushed
out on the stable releases (7.3.2 - 24695)

I get the following in the server.log file:

Slim::Utils::PluginManager::enablePlugins (538) Warning: Couldn't call
Plugins::AutoRescan::Plugin-initPlugin: Can't locate object method
new via package Plugins::AutoRescan::Monitor_Linux at
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/AutoRescan/Plugin.pm
line 123.

I get that error every time I restart squeezecenter.

If I grep through my logs, it looks like I have been getting that error
since 8 February, if that helps...but I don't know if that was
coincident with an upgrade to squeezecenter or anything else on my
system, unfortunately.

I haven't noticed it before because most of my music I scan with
MusicIP first and when I update my MusicIP library that triggers a
rescan. I just added some music without adding the MusicIP analysis
and it didn't add it to the library.

I just did a manual rescan (new and changed) and it picked up the new
music just fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
arm

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC 7.3 Linux no longer transcoding WMA (other work though)

2009-03-09 Thread eschurig

You are correct on the location of the .jar file on my linux music
server machine and that is where I put your new version after renaming
the old one. I don't have any speakers connected to the linux music
server computer and have never played with getting sound working. It
really is mostly dedicated to being a squeezecenter server. As such, I
run softsqueeze on a Windows XP PC. I can try the command you suggest
on the linux box and/or I can try to install softsqueeze on the PC. I
will play with these options more tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help. I am looking forward to seeing if this fix
works.
