Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] SlimNAS 1.4.99 for SqueezeboxServer 7.4 / FreeNAS 0.7

2009-10-01 Thread davemal

Try renaming the file to squeezecenter-noCPAN.tgz if you havent already
done so

There has been a squeezecenter name change to squeezeserver with the
release of 7.4 and I am not sure if slimnas has taken this into account
(yet).

one idea in that case. How about saying 'no matching tracks available'

Well, not everyone is as lucky as you. I tried through the WebUI - then
I get a constant message about restarting the server every time I went
to the plugins page. Sugarcube would not run.
But yesterday, I finally made it: Installed through WebUI, then copied
the Gamma to the plugins folder under the user profile, restated the
server and TAT! the Sugarcube plugin settings are there. And it
finally works.

If you edit the XML/SQL manually for the menu, and it's acceptable to

The Dance playlist seems to not have the "Include unrated" checkbox set,
which results in that it won't include unrated tracks. If you look at
the Rock playlist it has this checkbox checked which would explain why
it worked also without ratings.

Could this be the issue ?

Yes, it's the same problem, TrackStat runs a refresh operation at
startup to synchronize it's table with the Squeezebox Server database
tables. At the moment there is a SQL statement in that refresh operation
that's not optimized for some setups. I think the major problem is if
you have a larger library because it works pretty good in my own setup.

2009-10-01 Thread erland

I think it's a bug in TrackStat but I haven't had the time to look at it
yet. As a temporary solution you can disable the refresh operations in
TrackStat after rescans and startup, this is controlled by the "Startup
refresh" and "Rescan refresh" options in the TrackStat settings page.

The effect of this is that if a file is moved or renamed, you will
loose the TrackStat statistics for that particular track. As long as you
don't move or rename tracks you should be fine.

Very nice screensaver. I find the animation of the icons on the right a
little annoying, but no big deal. Here's a real simple question/request:
would it be possible to add an option to put the time of day on the
screen somewhere? My choice would be the bottom, because I don't care
that much whether it's been 14 minutes or 53 minutes since the weather
forecast was updated.

Also an option for displaying temp in Fahrenheit would be nice for
those living in technologically backwards places that aren't used to
thinking in celsius, particularly before the first cup of coffee in the
morning.

I suspect this has more to do with the folks who maintain the 3rd party
XM plugin than anything else. Logitech has had 7.4 in beta for ages, and
they've answered questions from us 3rd party developers as we've tried
to update our code to work with the new release. Logitech isn't
purposely breaking anything; they're making changes that are needed or
seen to be valuable, and sometimes those changes break 3rd party code.

That's not to say that it's always easy or fun to update code for new
releases; I certainly would have had more fun last weekend if I hadn't
been trying so hard to get my 16 plugins working in 7.4 before Radio
shipped. But I can't blame Logitech for my procrastination.

First off, thank so much for writing this plugin. A huge part of my

I do have an error with the install, though. "There's no Squeezebox

SlimNAS installation folder using your preferred method (Windows share,

directory with the file name as well, but I still get the error.

Thanks again for the work.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SBS 7.4/Trackstat 2.9

2009-10-01 Thread AladdinSane

Hi guys,

This to report about a weird issue I am having with SBS 7.4 and
Trackstat (2.9). I’ll try to be as brief as I can (!).

I upgraded from 7.3.3 to 7.4. SBS rescanned the library… all fine. I
checked my prefs… all there. Then I noticed additional plugins were off
(I use several by Erland plus other stuff). I installed them, rebooted
the server and… it wouldn’t boot up and the PC would stop responding.
Checked Resource Manager and noticed that mysqld.exe had spiked up to
100% usage and got stuck there (first time I left it hanging there for
about 15 minutes… so I guess it was just stuck in a loop). So I killed
mysqld.exe and the server aborted. Then I started it safe mode, disabled
trackstat and everything went back to normal. I tried many, many
different things but to make this short let’s just say I went radical on
the problem.

I uninstalled everything, erased all prefs, erased all folders (so yes,
I had to reconfigure all my devices from scratch!). Re-installed 7.4. I
launched it but aborted first scan of the library (as default library is
not the right one). I configured all the parameters, re-installed all
the additional plug-ins (including trackstat), rebooted and… everything
was fine. All the plugins were there, everything was working.

So I launch the main scan. While it’s scanning (I have about 23k songs
so it takes a bit), I check and reconfigure all the plugins and prefs...
no problems. But then, as soon as the scan is over, everything goes
south again: mysqld.exe kicks in (as, I guess it should, after a
rescan?) but gets stuck again at 100%. Stays there indefinitely (let’s
say more than 20 minutes). So I kill it, but this time the server
doesn’t shut down. I check the plugin setting page and trackstat is
installed. I try using and it works! (I restored my old stats as well as
trying inputting new ones).

At that’s pretty much where I am now. Whenever I perform any kind of
rescan on the library or reboot SBS while trackstat is installed, Mysqld
gets stuck and freezes the machine but now killing it doesn’t prevent
SBS from starting up successfully (and trackstat from working).

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Headphone Switcher for Squeezebox Duet

2009-10-01 Thread bluegaspode

As some might have noticed, with the 7.4.0-firmware audio-stuttering
really spoils listening to music on the controller.

I updated my Headphone-Pluging to ease the pain A LOT :)
If you reinstall it (version 0.2) you will find a third option 'Improve
Audio Playback'.
On my controller now I only have very rare stutters (once every second
song or so)

What is happening behind the scenes ?
Well - the plugins finds the process responsible for audio-playback and
just increases its priority. UI effects like scrolling text etc. thus
can't interfere with playback that much.
Please note that I don't know what other sideeffects this could have,
if unsure just restart your controller to revert to the original state.
Testing about two hours now - couldn't notice anything bad.

Thanks to bhaagensen for giving me the idea
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68815)

As a sidenote: logitech improved the playback with 7.4.1 which you can
download as a beta (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.4).
The effect is roughly the same - some stutters left as well but in very
good shape to enjoy music.
The Audio playback process got 'realtime' priority there, my
plugin-option then won't improve anything anymore (the changes are just
ignored)

I don't know why some of you are copying manually. If you use SB Server

It's under settings now and it works for me. You can promote it to the
home menu, but it won't have an icon like everything else.

O.K., I've done the following:

1. Set up MusicIP Headless Mode on Vista
2. Set up the Replacement MusicIP Interface
3. Set up Sugarcube
4. Validated 12,000+ songs
5. Complete re-scan in Sueezecenter 7.3.3
6. Read every post in this thread.

Can someone provide some basic instructions on what I need to do now,

Do I need to have the replacement MusicIP Interface open at all times?

Do I need to have the original MusicIP Interface open at all times?

Thanks.

Well...

The basic idea is that the Song Info menu opens a normal browse tree.
There are Squeezebox users who do almost all of their browsing through
that feature so I decided I want the normal main menu to be shown.

So you will not be able to move the screen as on other NowPlaying
pages, think of it as leaving the NowPlaying context. You also see the
penguin on the top right.

Swiping right should do a "back" operation similar to pressing the
top-left button.

Holding an item should open a context menu but at least in 7.4 a lot of
the context menus you get here are broken, resulting in the same one
being loaded again. That said: most context menus are NOT supposed to
have direct context menus so in this case the correct behavior would be
to do nothing at all.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-10-01 Thread vagskal

Great update! Thanks pippin!

If I touch & hold on the now playing cover art or a song in the
playlist to get to the song info screen (great feature btw.), it seems
that I in that song info screen only occasionally succeed in wiping to
get back to the originating screen. Is wiping supposed to work in the
song info screen in those instances (there are no small dots at the
bottom of the page indicating that you can wipe to other screens)? What
is touching & holding an item in such song info screens supposed to do?
Sometimes such a gesture produced no result, sometimes it forced a
reload of the same page and sometimes it took me back to the originating
screen. A touch & hold _and_ a wipe lets you "wipe" to the same page. Is
that the intended behaviour?

In the song info screen in those instances I also got somewhat
surprised that the player controls disappeared from the bottom of the
screen (being replaced by the artist list etc. icons) so that I could no
longer pause or control the volume while reading the album review.

Perhaps all will be explained in the upcoming new manual... In that
case, sorry for my impatience.

During 7.4 development there were two versions of 7.4. The release
version of 7.4 has many of the changes that required 2.6 to be
developed.

However since 2.6 was developed between there was BBC changes and
BBCiPlayer plugin improvements there is little reason for a user to use
AlienBBC as BBCiPlayer plugin provides the same programs and at better
quality for both UK and non UK users.

Ah. Yes, that may need a bit of explaining.
iPeng remembers the order when, and only when you change the menu
manually.
If it doesn't find some of the items you put on the bar it fills them
up with the top items on the menu.

And I believe some of the items on MySB have different IDs (Radios, for
example) so the menu might change when you switch back.

This may be worth a ticket for a server dependent tab bar
configuration, would probably make sense together with server dependent
caching which is planned for a later release.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate this, after all
that's what I need to make iPeng better.
One thing, with the trac I use you have to add your e-mail address to
"CC" manually to get updates when the status of a ticket changes... Or
you have to check back manually.
Be prepared that I close one or two because some are duplicates of
tickets that are already present and I will merge these.

No, this probably has to do with the fact that on mysqueezebox the
default menu items are not available, like "Albums", "Artists", etc.

Just tried 1.2 for a little while, it looks great but I have some

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom tag mapping help

2009-10-01 Thread Daverz

I'd like to create a custom tag with a format like

ARTIST/CONDUCTOR/BAND

I've tried

ALLARTISTS=combine
ARTIST|ARTIST(text=/)|CONDUCTOR|CONDUCTOR(text=/)|BAND

But this results in a trailing slash if there is no CONDUCTOR or BAND.
Is there a better way to do this?

I'd also like to add another custom tag to disambiguate multiple
recordings with the same artists. Can I do something like this?

ALLARTISTS=combine
ARTIST|ARTIST(text=/)|CONDUCTOR|CONDUCTOR(text=/)|BAND,DESCRIPTION=oneof
SHORT_DESCRIPTION|ALLARTISTS

where MOREINFO is a custom tag and ALLARTISTS and DESCRIPTION are
virtual tags. So if a tag SHORT_DESCRIPTION is non-empty it is used,
else the ALLARTISTS virtual tag is used.

I've just upgraded to iPeng 1.2 on my iPod.

One word : GREAT !

It is closer to the app I was dreaming about when buying iPeng a few

It is more complete, with the possibility to have all informations on a

Not yet perfect - does perfection exists ? ;-) - but really fine to

I will tell you about my suggestions soon on trac.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alienbbc - Empty Podcasts

2009-10-01 Thread bpa

Looks like a bad install of AlienBBC. AlienBBC 2.6b1-7.3 should be
installed using Extension Downloader only.

AlienBBC plugin should be considered "end of life" and your should move
onto the replacement plugins.

To play BBC programs you should be using BBCiPlayer plugin as BBC have
been shutting down some RealAudio support.

I don't think it is worth updating the BBC podcast page as the
resulting list from new format web site will not be much different from
the OPML list.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Beta: Weather-Screensafer for Controller/Radio/Touch

2009-10-01 Thread bluegaspode

Some updates:

- font is resized to fit better on the available space.
The font thus will be a bit bigger for better visibility.
Also the font should now show correctly on Squeezebox Radio.
- started to parse the actual weather-string (instead just the
icon-names, that come from wunderground) for the current weather -
this makes it possible to have more exact icons, for instance 3 levels
of rain (ligth/normal/heavy) instead just one - see example icons
  below.
- localization for english+german. If you speak any other language
please look at the attached 'strings.txt'-file, extend it and post it
  back here !

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom scan errors

2009-10-01 Thread Daverz

I'm getting a ton of errors like these in my server log:

[09-09-30 20:06:13.1282] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::scanTrack (1702)
CustomScan: Failed to call scanTrack on module
Plugins::CustomScan::Modules::CustomTag: Can't use string
("Vishnevskaya") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/CustomScan/Modules/CustomTag.pm
line 482.

Sure enough, the "offending" tracks do not show up in my menu. This
particular one has a full ARTIST tag of "Vishnevskaya; Pears;
Fischer-Dieskau".

Here's what my menu is supposed to look like (based on the Composers by
Work menu):

COMPOSER
WORK
ALLARTISTS

Where ALLARTISTS is a virtual tag

ALLARTISTS=combine
ARTIST|ARTIST(text=/)|CONDUCTOR|CONDUCTOR(text=/)|BAND

This seems to work fairly well except for the errors above which cause
tracks to be left out of the menu.

Hi Michael and thanks for the wonderful slimnas,

I recently upgraded freenas to .7RC1 and hence used your latest slimnas

However, the playing and scanning are constantly terminated unexpectedly
on different files. In play mode SC claiming that "file is not find". I
cleared all logs, restarted the system, encountered same behavior.
Following errors I find in logs:

Progress bar was the wrong word. Meant was the loading bar of the
browser. It runs for a minute and then the typical page not found
webpage appears.

Btw it works now. Reinstalled the plugin, rebooted the computer and
used an older backup, one of this did it.
Thanks for your help.

Put back mplayer. Had to run slimnas-install.sh command again. Removed
custome-convert.conf and restarted slimserver. Apple lossless files
won't play. Noticed everytime I restart slimserver constom-convert.conf
is restored to original file. Had a look at slimnas.tgz - Sox not
included.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I am still using the workaround suggested successfully. However I
updated to the latest AlienBBC test version when I installed 7.4 - and I
still have the same issue. Is this to be expected or it a local issue on
my setup?

Many Thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XM radio plugin with 7.4?

2009-10-01 Thread allanweinman

I guess I jumped the gun too fast as well. It would have been nice if
logitech would have included the xmradio functionality like they did for
so many other 3rd party plugins. It almost seems each time logitech
comes out with a new version of slimserver they purposely break xmradio
plugin.

Back to the last version of slimserver and I'll wait it out.

I am also having problems with restore (although no progress bar). I
have located daily backups of trakstat data. These look OK in text
editor. When attempting to restore from backup file I get egg timer for
a while, then "Oops this link appears to be broken" I am using Google
Chrome as browser by the way.
Have tried this several times with different backup files but always
with same result.

Not yet. Working on it but will be end of the week I believe.
Saving a playlist works by going to the playlist and pressing the
"edit" button in the top right corner. You then get a toolbar that also
has a "save" icon.
So little space on that screen...

Hi erland,

did you get anywhere with this? I have now got ratings back using a
backup but I would like to sync iTunes and TrackStat every night to
import new music ratings. If you need any further information or have
any ideas of things to try let me know

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Some Dynamic Playlists Failed: Help Needed

2009-10-01 Thread Chunkywizard

Hi erland,

I've fixed this but I can't explain why the playlists were failing in
the first place. My fix was to get back ratings on my songs using an old
backup. When all songs are rated then the Dance playlist worked.
However, both Dance and Rock playlists have a >3* element to them so I
am at a loss as to why one worked and the other one didn't.

You have to copy it under:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\plugins

It will then end up after restart under the other directory. BUT it
does not work! There is no Extras menu anymore, so you can't switch
