But you may have missed my point slightly -- my suggestion was not for
SBS/Whitebear to play -to- an AirPort Express, but to for it to enable
Squeezeboxes to appear to -be- AirPort Expresses.

i.e. So one could stream from iTunes to a Squeezebox. We have both
Squeezeboxes and an AirPort Express in out house. It tends to be that I
use the Squeezeboxes, and my girlfriend uses the AirPort Express (with
 iTunes on her Mac).

AE isn't dlna/upnp. its some proprietary mac crap, like daap or
something like that. its not at all similar, is my understanding.

Depends what you mean by not at all similar — it's still for streaming

ok, so let me get this straight...

you want to know if you can use whitebear, or if it can easily

instead of DLNA?

is that right? if it could do all along with what it does already than

Ha. Sort of. I do not think it can be easily modified, nor do I expect
it to, as it's not on Andrew's list of things to do for Whitebear, but
my ideal situation would be this:

To use my Squeezeboxes with iTunes.

See the attached image — this is what you get with iTunes when there
are AirPlay devices like AirPort Expresses on the network, you can
select them as output devices just like choosing a DLNA/UPnP renderer
in whatever DLNA/UPnP control point you like to use. Except it's not
DLNA/UPnP, it's AirPlay, hence my Squeezeboxes (or any other DLNA/UPnP
render) do not appear in this list in iTunes. I would like them to. Or,
more to the point, my girlfriend would like them to. The
best/easiest/analogous way to do this, I asked/suggested, is for
Whitebear to implement the AirPlay protocol and expose the Squeezeboxes
as AirPlay speakers (actually the -best- way to do this is for Apple to
implement DLNA/UPnP in iTunes, but I think we know that's not going to
happen). The fact that this involves a 'closed, proprietary Apple
protocol' is something the iTunes user doesn't really care about...

Now, as you say, if Whitebear did this along with what it already does,
it would indeed be a massive pile of Awesomeness!

Perhaps this is old news...but just in case.

If I navigate to an artist that only contains one album, when I click
on the artist's name, it jumps past the next screen right to the track
listing for the album.

This isn't too big of a deal, but it is confusing when building up a
playlist - in these cases you have to go back to the artist and add the
artist rather than the album.

Not sure if this is by design or not.

Just restart the App.
Under iOS4 it's not enough to send it to the background using the
home button, you need to really restart it by quitting it from the
task bar (double-click the home button to get to the task bar, hold the
app icon until it wobbles and then press the red -).

If you have been using WOL you also have to disable that, servers using
WOL are always being remembered because they need to show up even when
they are not active.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-01-14 Thread holkoz

I have a problem with my Ipod Touch(3g) and iPeng. It is related to
battery consumption. If I shut down iPeng before letting the Touch
enter the screensaver the battery can last several days without a
problem.

If I keep iPeng running the battery is sometimes drained within hours,
but sometimes it seems to last just as long without quiting Ipeng. I
have tried to understand why this is happening.

Last couple of days I stopped the music(paused) via iPeng before
letting it enter the screensaver. This procedure seems to make the
battery last longer. Normally I stop music via the IR remote or the
touch screen. I am not entirely confident I have found a workaround,
but the first test turned out positive. I will try some more the
following days.

I have tried all other battery saving tips mentioned in this
thread(turning off notifications etc) with no success.

I assume that the last line is the sign of the problem. The computer

Here's the entry from squeezecenter's log preceding this, which seems

I'm not entirely sure what these do, though they fixed my waking from

Sorry to take so long to respond to this. I've been in Tucson at a

A couple of questions:

I'm not sure I've stated this in the ReallyPreventStandby
documentation, but I think gsession-inhibit will only work if there is
an active gnome user session..i.e. a user needs to be logged in to a
gnome session. In your case, was the user ca (as indicated in the
log) logged in?

Does gsession-inhibit work for you from a terminal session?

Try this:

Open a gnome terminal window and paste the following into the window:

Code:

  cat ~/Desktop/check-inhibit.sh EOF;
  #!/bin/bash

  for i in {0..1000..1}
  do
  INHIBIT=\`dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager
/org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.IsInhibited uint32:-1\`
  if [[ $INHIBIT =~ true ]]
  then
  echo Inhibited..
  else
  echo Not inhibited..
  fi

  #echo $?
  sleep 1
  done
  sleep 30
  EOF
  chmod 755 ~/Desktop/check-inhibit.sh

That will create a small script file, check-inhibit.sh on your desktop.
Double click on check-inhibit.sh and select Run in terminal... This
should result in a new terminal window opening and the message Not
inhibited.. appearing every second.

Now, in your original terminal window, paste in this command:

Code:

  #
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/ReallyPreventStandby/bin/unix/gsession-inhibit
 -l -d 60

Does the check-inhibit.sh terminal message change to Inhibited..?

Thanks..

there you should find a Song Lyrics entry.

In the SBS web interface, you should be able to click on a Song to see

I've thought about that and that also happens on iPeng on iPad which
have a larger screen. However, I'm not sure how good it will work on
the single line Boom display without also supporting synchronization
with the music.

Unfortunately only one of the lyrics sources I use (Musixmatch.com)
have synchronization data with the lyrics. That's also a reason why I
earlier this week wanted help to see how good the Musixmatch.com lyrics
are, if they work good enough it might be worth to also implement
synchronization with the music.

Could you file a ticket for this. I'm currently redesigning the main

I will.

You mean even larger than full screen??? I could add a 4th scale there,
 of course Another ticket?

Yes, I said that I was looking for more high res cover art. New CDs
ripped I now scan in about 1,400/1,400 resolution. Zooming would be
better than another image size on the NP screen. Or could the 4th scale
show the image in full resolution, as much as will fit the screen with
the possibility to move the visible area around?

I will add a ticket.

There is a version 1.8, you can find it on my site. There is a tweak
required which you may or may not need;

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-01-14 Thread JerryS

I know this has been asked in pre-ipad days, but the problem is still
here even with the large ipad screen. 21 Teil II-Fur Er...lento
espressio in a play list is lacking in elegance and detracts from the
otherwise aesthetically pleasing functionality of the product. I seem
to remember you said you had difficulties in getting scrolling to work
with i-phone, any success with ipad?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] The Spicers repository

2011-01-14 Thread Phil Meyer
I had added a repository for Max Spicers third-party plugins:
http://www.thespicers.net/slim/repo.xml

This doesn't exist on the server any more, but the plugins are still hosted on
that server. Is this because the plugins are referenced from some other
repository file?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Cannot play radio or BBC iPlayer

2011-01-14 Thread avatarlucas

Hi,

I have the following installed: Squeezebox 7.5.2 using a ReadyNAS NV+
and Radiator 4.1.7

Everytime I try the URL of a radio station which I can send no problem
to my squeezebox duet/boom I get the following error to my
Squeezeplay/Softsqueeze:
Problem: Can't open file for:
mms://

I have installed BBC iPlayer and none of those channels work either. It
seems to only be mms or .asx which I assume is the perennial wma
problem?

Thanks
