2021-06-19 Thread Grumpy Bob

Just to note that I've not seen any disruption or lack of response with
my server (Pi4, pCP 7.0.1, LMS Version: 8.1.2 - 1622353561) with Spotty
4.5. Starting playback of Spotty albums integrated in my collection is
pretty much the same as for local files, and navigating within the
Spotty app is a bit laggy but not (I think) any worse than before.

is purely with albums in my Spotty Album list. They take 5 seconds to
open (42 seconds with debug logging). Albums found by searching in
Spotty open in 2 seconds. There is also no problem selecting albums via
the Spotty Artist list.

While that should not be the issue for the plugin, I'd be rather
surprised if the current directory was in your $PATH. Normally, to run a
file from the current directory, you'd call it like "./spotty-hf"

But that tells as something new. It would seem that your system's
hardware architecture is not the same as that of the installed binaries.

There has been a problem running the Spotty helper application. You
might want to give the additional "Spotty Legacy Helper for ARM" plugin
a try.

Error After legacy helper is installed

Running. /Spotty in legacy folder reports not found

Looks like something has gone wrong with your LMS, it can't open a
socket to call out to the internet.
Have you tried rebooting your server?Hopefully its as simple as
that, however it may be something has got corrupt and you need to
reinstall LMS

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-06-19 Thread slartibartfast

Does nobody else see an issue with Spotify Connect where if you pause a
track in the Spotify app the track progress indicator jumps to the end
of the track? Restarting the track causes the track timer to increase
beyond the track end time.

I don't get it. So this is the standard pCP7, no 64 bit, no audio

you, except:

Maybe one of the pCP guys can chime in. We seem to be running a slightly

There's no "file" in pCP. But here's what it says for me:

2021-06-19 Thread Michael Herger

I just tried my laptop with Spotty 4.4.9 and that also takes 5 seconds
to open an album in the Spotty library and debug logging slows
everything down even more. So I have no idea what is going on. Does
debug logging work correctly for anyone else?

How much is "even more"? The only difference between debug logging and
not is the amout of information written to the server.log file (and the
time needed to process that action). But really, this should be
franctions of seconds, not dozens of them. Unless you have a problem on
your file system, or an otherwise super slow IO system which takes a
long time to write the additional data.

All that said you still haven't told me where (according to the log)
Spotty was spending all that time. Feel free to share your
server.log.zip with me:

No, currently not.
You should still be able to play 192kHz material through iPeng as long
as you allow the server to transcode it (that works by default), but
iPeng's output will be limited to 96kHz sample rates

Good to know then. In this case it was probably related to the
transcoding or something. I really need to get the native OGG/Vorbis
with Spotify to run on iPeng again, I just don't have the slightest idea
as to why it doesn't work, so right now the transcoding is required.

castalla - can you double check your Pi model? Greg just told me that
the difference between our two kernels is that one would be for v7 (four
core, introduced with 2B), the other for single core. For whatever
reason your Pi is running a Pi1/0 kernel.

Please enable "beta" mode in pCP and go to

http://your-ip/cgi-bin/xtras_test.cgi

This should tell you what model you're using.

I do, I can test a bit later this morning. But the 2b is armv7, so it
should be fine. When I looked at the elf info, it was built for armv7.

Make sure you are loading just the spotty plugin, no need to use any of

I doubt it. What problem are you trying to solve? And it would only
eliminate the traffic for that one instance of Squeezelite. If you have

Sorry to be a dunce - but (in a few words) how do I reboot my server? If
that doesn´t do it - then how do I reinstall LMS?
I am using iPeng, Raspberrypi/piCorePlayer with SQB Radio.

The big question of course, is just how did I get into this problem in
the first place? Closed down normally one day and got the 'connect timed
out' on restart the following day. The only 'happening' between these
events was a general power shut down for a few minutes during the night
(- this I only know from my burglar alarm messaging service) which has
had no effect otherwise.

All help, comments etc. will be gratefully received.

in my current setup of rpi/allo, when i play spotty,
it often stops after some number of tracks and i have to manually
kick-start it
by either next or previous function. rpi/allo is now hardwired
ethernet, so internet connection is pretty solid.

so, i'm considering getting another streamer in addition to rpi/allo
combo:
som-200 neo and lumin u1 mini.
som is more like rpi/allo in that it has sqlite/lms support whereas
lumin has built-in spotify.
so, besides hardware quality, i was evaluating the software setup
advantages.
if you have any more thoughts, please...

As far as I know, the reboot function does an orderly shutdown of LMS

Thanks for the last update of the app. Looks more modern now, especially
with the music notification option, to bring it in the correct place.

One thing about that music notification. When I swipe down on my phone,
I get the notification panel. The music notification is collapsed. Only
the pause/play is visible. On the second swipe down I see a lot more
options. Would it be possible, to add at least a skip forward and maybe
backwards control in the collapsed notification? Just like Spotify. See
the attached screenshots.

That has been the case for as long as I recall. The program producer
&/or engineer will decide what the recording gain should be. Apparent
lower volume can also be a result of deliberately not using
dynamic-range compression. While I still used get-iplayer I adjusted the
file volume with aacgain as part of my download script. I'll trade
occasionally needing to turn up my amp for the overall convenience of
the Sounds plugin.

info for "reboot" on the piCorePlayer webGUI (ver 7.0.1) indicates a
"graceful" shutdown. (And I've never had an issue using this, without
stopping LMS first):

- Shutdown piCorePlayer gracefully.
- Boot piCorePlayer using the latest settings.

There has been a messy disagreement regarding the instruction set to be
supported and AFAIR, when the first Pi came out, the processor they
where using (an 1160) was missing one instruction. I would have to
reread things from the past, but in general I think the 1160 needs the
arm5el, not the hf and even then, the IS used by standard gcc does not
work. I’ve painfully experienced that when doing cross-compiling for my
apps. You’d need to compile using the gcc provided for that cpu. That’s
also why I don’t support old pi’s, I don’t want to do native
compilation.

Any idea why the redundant controls in the Favorites menu?

Clicking on the three dots gives
35021

Clicking on the icon gives
35022

Perhaps clean up the icon by removing the Append to Queue and Play now
buttons and move the Play now action to clicking the icon instead. This
gives a much larger area to click for phone, tablet users and reduces
redundancy.

Because the pi0 uses the same single core armv6 processor.

More than you need really depends on what you want out of your system.
There is only one reason to use older pi models..if you need low
power requirements if you want to run from a battery. (okay the cost of
the pi0 is a reason) Otherwise, get the latest pi4. The pi4 is really
getting all of the MFG time at their plants, and often due to supply and
demand, the older pi3's can cost more. If you do go for a pi3xx, then
go for the pi3b+

Apart from the fact of junking 2 previously working pi's, there appear
to be 2 different pi 3 B+ (526 and 1gb). A 4 will need a new case with
cooling and a new power supply.

What advantages does 4.5 have over 4.9?

Maybe I could just switch to Tidal as an alternative?

Must say I'm a bit miffed.9

If you want the latest and greatest options, then sometimes you have to
keep up with the hardware. The compilers and libraries being used are
just dropping support for ancient platforms.

AFAIK, you can install Spotty and Spotty Legacy Helper App for Arm6/7
and you should be able to use spotty on the older systems.

Otherwise, get the pi3B+, it only comes in one flavor.

The legacy helper makes no difference - still produces an error.

I've taken the path of least resistance and switched to Tidal... Working
fine.

Such a pity that this update messes up the earlier models.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-06-19 Thread Michael Herger

Apart from the fact of junking 2 previously working pi's, there appear
to be 2 different pi 3 B+ (526 and 1gb). A 4 will need a new case with
cooling and a new power supply.

I totally understand your frustration. But I don't understand why you
don't help us help you... It's still not clear to me what devices you
have. The first you mentioned in your initial posting seemed to be a
recent model (armv8 based). Then you said it was a 2, but actually it
was a 1st generation B. Now you mention two previously working devices.
I'd be more than surprised if 4.4.9 was working on the B. And what's the
second one?

I think castalla mentioned trying with a Zero.

Yep.

The first gen pi (I always thought it was a 2) and a pi zero.

The zero produces the same red error message.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.5 - improved Ogg direct, Autoplay, multi-user setup

2021-06-19 Thread Michael Herger

I just uploaded server.log
I restarted LMS navigated to Spotty/Albums, turned on debug logging then
opened the album Everything Now by Arcade Fire. The tracks were
displayed after around 40 seconds.

I'm pretty sure this is IO related. You could watch "top" while you're
running these test, to see whether it's waiting every now and then. What
I see is that even though the responses to the albums query are served
from cache, they take more than 10 seconds to log. It's admittedly about
130'000 lines of log statements for 50 albums, so these sum up for your
full list. Reading this data from cache and writing to the log is moving
around several megabytes in a few files. If you were using a slow SD
card, this could take some time. Or if there was an IO problem of some kind.

All that said: this should not have changed with the update.

Well 4.4.9 did work (slowly) on the B... And 4.4.9 also worked on the
zero.

Both now produce the red warning message.

This is at least the third time I'm going to ask this question, as
you've still not answered it: what's wrong with the first device you
mentioned, which from what I saw should be perfectly fine running
Spotty? Why don't you want to update it?

Anyone else had this experience with normalisation and transcoding to
flac. I've reversed to the previous spotty-hf helper and it works as it
did before.
If I'm alone in this it might be time to start from scratch and
reinstall LMS.
Running LMS 8.1.1 from a Pi4 to a touch and PcP synced together.

My first post raising the issue was using the B. I've no idea why the
first info I posted refers to ARMv8... If I check now it's showing armv7
(see below).. I resurrected the zero to see if it would work. Sorry
for the confusion.

2021-06-19 Thread paul-

There is some confusion as to what “osArch” or “Platform Architecture”.
Those come from the Perl configuration, and is not a true representation
of the base os/kernel running. I’m pretty sure that just shows what
system compiled Perl…….which we typically build on a armv7 processor,
but the binaries are set to run on the armv6 boards.

The kernel uname is always better to identify the rpi.

You're not alone!

Terrible distortion and unusually loud! Other stream services work
fine, and my music works fine.
