I'm in the UK and get this issue with a BT router. Its a minor nuisance
and I would like to remedy it if possible. Any recommendation for a
router that will keep the connection open..?

world service icon is displayed but there's no sound. I can look into

Nothing is synced that I can see. But I notice that iPhone playback has
an oddity whereby it always reverts to 100% volume as soon as the
iPhone's home key is pressed. The same thing does not happen with iPad
playback. With iPad, the volume is unchanged on exit and on re-entry.

I wonder if the iPhone playback oddity is related to the volume increase
problems when using it to control other players?

Re-entry after any time increases the volume. If done immediately, the
increment is 5. A longer interval can cause an increase which is a
multiple of 5. You see the volume slider move to the right shortly after
re-entry (as well as hearing the volume increase, of course).
No Bluetooth speakers, Airplay or other external audio component that I
can think of. There are a couple of iPads though, at least one of which
has playback enabled in iPeng. I haven't tested whether the same thing
happens with either of them but can do so tonight if it might help with
diagnosis...

With iPeng 8.2.1 on an iPhone 6, if I exit the iPeng screen by pressing
the home key and then immediately access it again by touching the
penguin icon, the digital volume control nudges up by 5. This is
repeatable behaviour and happens without using any other app in the
interval or touching any other buttons. Leaving a longer interval before
accessing iPeng again can result in larger increments, but always
multiples of 5. Any idea what would cause this, and how to fix it..?

Fumbling to turn the Radio on this morning, I was immediately struck by
how quickly 5 Live started to play. Since the streams switched to HLS,
there has always been a hiatus of several seconds before a stream was
audible. Now it is back to how it used to be: no more than a second or
two for any of the BBC stations that I tried.

Thanks for some great plugins - much appreciated.

Just tried the changed order. With Musixmatch first in the list I got a
searching for lyrics screen for each of three songs I tried. I gave up
after a minute or so. For the record the songs were:

Dealer (John Martyn) from One World
Tin Angel (Joni Mitchell) from Clouds
Made For You (OneRepublic) from Waking Up.

LyricsFly got lyrics for them all (though it got the wrong lyrics for
the last one!)

I've reverted to the original ordering.

Yes it does, but just tags not the music itself. It writes an Analysis

The reason I ask is that I think I've read a post somewhere someone
complains that MusicIP has buggered up the tags on their music
 collection...

It's harmless IME, and can be removed at any time.

Also Squeezebox seems to have two settings for MusicIP :

Only read mixable status from MusicIP (faster)
Import all song data from MusicIP (slower)

Is the second one worth bothering with?

Dunno, I have always stuck with the first option. :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP Mixer - curious behaviour

2009-11-03 Thread Peter314

In an idle moment I tried a MusicIP Mix of a track from Van Der Graaf
Generator#8217;s Live At The Paradiso. The MusicIP mix settings in my
system are quite conservative, so it wasn#8217;t a total surprise when
the next track was from the same album, and the third and fourth tracks
too.

At this point it had obviously hit some sort of limit and reluctantly
shifted to Mars, from Holst#8217;s The Planets, and then something from
Ton Koopman#8217;s Bach Organ Spectacular. After this interlude it was
back to VDGG live before blossoming with a bunch of tracks from King
Crimson, ELP, Yes, The Doors, Mike Oldfield, and quite a few songs from
the HDTracks World#8217;s Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings.

While there are clearly some genre linkages between a number of the
selections, other seemed pretty far apart #8211; more so than generally
results from a MusicIP mix. The penny dropped when I realised that what
every single track had in common was that it is -a 24 bit recording-.

A quick test with other 24 bit tracks confirmed this. Seeding a MusicIP
mix with a 24 bit recording produces a playlist of exclusively 24-bit
tracks. Clearly, MusicIP Mixer sees bit depth as the single most
important criterion by far.

I am reluctant to liberalise the mix parameters lest the mix become too
random. Anyone know of a way to make MusicIP Mixer #8220;bit-depth
blind#8221;?

Thanks Andy, that's useful to know. I don't know whether iPlayer has
the same behaviour from the iPlayer website because all my home
listening is via SB Classic. It's not a major problem - streams will
often play for hours without a hitch - but it is annoying when it
happens because it is not self-correcting.

Although I don't listen to the radio via the iPlayer website, I have
watched BBC TV programmes this way without any problem.

No, both SBs are wired (one via Homeplugs). They play all local flac

streaming radio.

Have you tried using Pause - wait a about 10 secs and then play ?

I haven't, although the process I follow (into and out of standby, then

Ok, I listened patiently to Radio 4 until the problem recurred, then

He went on to say that he has made a change so that there is now no
traffic shaping going on (and implying - but not explicitly stating -
that there had been traffic shaping). I was told that some value (didn't
catch which one, I'm afraid) had now been turned up 'to 110%'.

So, we'll see. Radio 2 has been streaming fine for the last 20 mins...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer and The 5% of Doom

2009-10-06 Thread Peter314

From time to time iPlayer pauses briefly to rebuffer and then carries on
fine.

However, on other occasions it hangs at 5% rebuffering and needs
fixing. The quickest fix is to put the SB into and out of standby, and
then return to the program. Buffering then proceeds normally.

This happens on each of two wired SB Classics and is known in our house
as The 5% of Doom. Just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this
and/or knows a way of preventing it.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Can't resolve IP addresses after MusicIP Install

2009-07-03 Thread Peter314

Did that. Everything now works perfectly, thank you.

It belatedly occurs to me that I might have tried those things before
posting...

*blushes*

Now, about this mip 1.9b6...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Listen Again

2009-03-07 Thread Peter314

Running SC 7.1, Alien BBC Listen Again has not found any programmes for
some time now. Is there a fix for this without moving to a later
version of SC?

Alternatively, can anyone tell me whether the Alien BBC and iPlayer
plugins work with the latest nightly of 7.4?

Thanks for any help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Listen Again

2009-03-07 Thread Peter314

Thanks, I'll try that then.

One more question, if I may. Is it recommended to install a new version
over an existing version, or should the entire SC folder and cache be
deleted and a fresh installation performed?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Can't Install Last FM

2007-11-18 Thread Peter314

Yes, Plugin.pm is present in:

C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Plugins\LastFM213\LastFM

A file of the same name is also in:

C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\Plugins\SlimScrobbler0372\SlimScrobbler

I tried downloading the zip files and reinstalling but nothing
changed.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Can't Install Last FM

2007-11-17 Thread Peter314

Hi, complete newbie here, so please be gentle...

I have been trying to install last FM but without success.

I downloaded the Lastfm213 and Slimscrobbler0372 zip files into the
Slimserver plugins subdirectory and unzipped them into their own
subdirectories. They came from http://www.jamescraig.co.uk/SlimServer.

Closing Slimserver and re-opening it doesn't let it 'find' Last FM
under plugins or internet radio. This all worked fine for alienbbc so
I'm at a loss to know what to do next.

Grateful for any advice.

Running Windows XP Professional and ver. 6.5.4 - 12568 of Slimserver.
