So I've reinstalled the LMS from scratch and re-added the BBC Sounds
plugin and the problem seems to have disappeared for now. I wonder if
it was something left over from all the complicated PlayHLS and IPlayer
installs that I had to do before BBC Sounds? Anyway, sorry to bother
you all - hopefully it's fixed. If not, I'll be back :-)

OK that was stupid - that's the standard one. But I checked and there's
no custom-convert.conf that I can find anywhere so I guess that's not
the problem.

OK I think you might be on to something. I dug out my old radio and it
doesn't happen on that (at least this time). I don't fully understand
how to check what is transcoding but pretty sure it's flac on the SB3.
I have the "prefer native format" box ticked if that is relevant.

I've attached my convert.conf if that helps. If there's anything
non-standard in there then it is for very old historical reasons and
should be reset.

PS Thanks for all the help so far!

Oh yes sorry. I see this with both a Squeezebox Classic and a Duet
receiver.

I can see on the scrubber the full length of the program. Then as it
gets near the end (say -2:50 or something) it suddenly stops or, if
there is anything in the queue skips to the next programme.

I wonder if this is something to do with any other plugin. But I don't
have many installed:

I might have been listening to the podcast - I just went - BBC Sounds -
Search - "More" and then chose the first option which lists a load of
short programmes all about 9 minutes.

Yes - just checked and it is the 96kbps podcast.

But I think (maybe not) I've experienced the same on programmes from the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce : BBC Sounds Plugin

2021-08-28 Thread bstrulo

I use this plugin all the time for live and rewound radio - it's
brilliant.

However, I have an intermittent problem when I play programmes from the
schedule in that if I play a programme from the start it sometimes ends
early - several minutes early often. I can restart the programme and as
long as I do a skip at some stage, it seems to play right to the end
after that.

I thought it might be the BBC data but the fact that it plays OK after
skip suggests not. I noticed a problem report a few weeks back (from
simoh) that sounded very similar but that one seemed to be fixed and in
any case I don't have uPnPBridge installed.

I just tried a test case (BBC More Or Less - The Rise of Delta). It
started at about 10:42 and stopped just under three minutes from the end
at about 10:47. I had switched on bbc sounds debug logging but my
uninformed eye can't see anything useful in there. I've attached the
log starting from my latest restart.

Should I use different logging settings? Any other trouble-shooting I
can try?

Thanks

Not completely sure why it's fixed but who cares: it's brilliant.

Don't think it's local network - everything else seems to work very
smoothly - and it's actually wired (rather than wifi) which is very
reliable. Could maybe be something CDN related or maybe DNS but I have
a standard setup so not sure what it would be. I'm on BT which is one
of the largest ISPs so my situation is not unusual. Though I am running
a slightly non-standard router. I do have quite fast broadband (about
70 Mbps down) if that could be related.

No, it's only the live streams.

I ran some more tests - changed the buffer fullness threshold to 100.
Then I tried 2 minutes delay - the stream was rebuffering every few
seconds. Then set it back to 5 minutes and the stream is more or less
OK - still rebuffering but far less often: once in 30 minutes of
testing.

Given that it is so easy for me to reproduce, completely solid at low
delays, perhaps I could offer some diagnostic assistance? I'm happy to
run some extra logging or anything that would help.

Mine is probably a rather older processor and i3 not i7 but similar
otherwise.

I get a delay on start (15 sec) but then (at least on my 4 minute
setting) I was getting a "rebuffering" event every few minutes. These
would take 15 seconds (maybe) to restart and then it would get going
again.

It's not impossible that there was something networky going on: but my
server is wired to my router and I have very good broadband, so it
wasn't anything obvious.

I'll run some tests when I get a chance, bearing in mind bpa's caching
information.

Ahh - OK so all I know really is that I changed it from 4 to 5 minutes

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support

2018-12-10 Thread bstrulo

Can I just start by saying how grateful I am to bpa for maintaining the
iPlayer plugin: it makes a huge difference to me, and I'm sure many many
other people.

I recently upgraded to the latest Logitech Media Server (Version: 7.9.2
- 1543258616 @ Mon Nov 26 20:08:12 WEST 2018) from one that was a little
bit older but not very old (a version of 7.9.1 I think). I'm running on
a quite powerful Windows 10 server.

Before, I had an issue with the BBC Radio 4 live streams where they kept
rebuffering. I fixed it by setting the "Seconds to delay start live
stream" to 4 minutes.

With the new version the problem came back. I've changed the setting to
5 minutes and it seems to be OK: rebuffering now fairly rare - though it
still sometimes does a short one. But I'm wondering if there's
something else I can fix? 5 minutes seems quite a long time. Another
oddity: in the web interface (which sometimes (?) shows the delay) the
delay seems to sometimes give numbers less than 5 minutes (maybe 1 or 2
minutes) and a bit variable, which seems odd. The actual delay does
seem to be about 5 minutes - maybe a little bit longer.

Since it's working this is not necessarily a problem - but it would be
nice (if possible) to reduce the delay a little.

As of yesterday, I'm getting occasional short dropouts of a second or so
every 2 or 3 minutes on Radio 4 FM live.

I've tried Radio 4 LW and still saw it. Doesn't seem to be a local

look fine as usual. The PC client doesn't seem to exhibit the problem.

Switching to WMA streams seems to fix it, though I've only just started

Any suggestions for diagnostics/workarounds/fixes?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iPlayer seems to hang SBS

2011-03-27 Thread bstrulo

This morning I was able to reproduce this issue, in the sense that I
caused it to happen twice in a row. Not sure if this will be enough
for anyone to reproduce or fix it, but hopefully so.

I missed the BBC Radio 4 program, Broadcasting House, and tried to play
it on Listen Again. It was only twenty minutes after the end, so I
thought it wouldn't be on the menu yet.

But it was:

Internet Radio > BBC iPlayer > BBC Radio 4FM > Today

led to the menu on which Broadcasting House was last on the list.

But obviously it was "not really" available, or at least it wouldn't
work: pressing Play made SBS hang badly: first my SB3 lost contact.
Then, on the server I could see SqueezeSvr.exe using 20% or so CPU but
not responding to the web controls or the control panel. It would not
even respond to the net service stop command: I had to kill the process
to restart it.

I then updated SBS to the latest nightly: v7.5.4, r32150 and tried
again with the same result.

These are the (possibly) relevant entries in the server log leading up
to the restart:

Hmmm, strangely the stutter has gone away even though I am still on
0.9f

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer 0.9 - with UK and Non UK Support

2009-11-11 Thread bstrulo

- do you use it frequently for live streams?

Most days.

- are you in the UK?

Yes.

- if so does audio stall a couple of seconds after starting a stream
for a second or so while the player "rebuffers"

Yes - usually though not always.

- once it is going do you see any more rebuffering events (well anymore
than you see when using iplayer in a web browser)

Not usually

- would you prefer that the pause was removed if doing so means
delaying how long it takes to start a live stream?

Yes. In fact I was just thinking to look for an obscure buffering
setting that might fix it. I'd definitely prefer it, but it's not like
it's ruining my day...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Bug possibly in KitchenTimer or MusicInfoScr

2009-11-07 Thread bstrulo

You're right! That was the problem - the screensaver had become set to
Kitchen Timer.

Now, I'm going to claim that it was reset to that when I uninstalled
MusicInfoScr (certainly I would never have deliberately chosen it).
Which, you could argue, is a (very minor) bug.

But maybe it was just a case of fat fingers...

Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Bug possibly in KitchenTimer or MusicInfoScr

2009-11-07 Thread bstrulo

I installed both plugins (can't remember the order) using the automatic
install in SBS (I'm running version 7.4.1 - r28913).

Later I decided to get rid of MusicInfoScr and so unchecked it on the
plugin screen and restarted.

I now get "KitchenTimer: No active timers!" popping up on my SB3 every
few minutes. I'm not sure if this is a bug in KitchenTimer or if
MusicInfoSCr is involved or what but it's sure annoying. I'm not even
sure that it started exactly when I uninstalled MusicInfoScr - sorry -
not a brilliant bug report, I know.

Uninstalling KitchenTimer "fixes it" in the sense that the message no
longer pops up, but as soon as I put KitchenTimer back, it starts up
again.

Can I fix it so I can get KitchenTimer back? I could try going back to
factory settings (I don't know how) but I don't want to lose my
TrackStat statistics and I'd rather not lose all my settings (though I
could live with that).

Suggestions, anyone?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

You're probably right but it's a little strange

I can see the download happening in Cache\DownloadedPlugins and it
seems to go to completion before disappearing and then I get the digest
error message.

Anyway, I can't get it to work ...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

I've tried clearing the cache: no difference.

Not only does the box not stay checked, also I still get the message to
restart the server, even after restarting, both via the "restart now"
button and manually.

I can't get the plugin installed at all.

It doesn't seem to be downloading anything...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-10-21 Thread bstrulo

I thought I would switch to 3.9b1 after experiencing the "2 streams"
bug.

So I uninstalled 3.8 and tried to use the plugin to get 3.9b1

I can check the box in the plugins page but once the server restarts
the box is unchecked again and Softsqueeze is not on the Extras menu.

This is on a 7.4.1 nightly.

Am I doing something wrong or should I just download the zip?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Help needed with shutdown.pm for SC

2008-03-29 Thread bstrulo

I've fixed it!

Somehow the install.xml file (and the Plugin.pm file) got translated to
MS-DOS encoding (with cr-lf at the end of the line). Converting back to
unix encoding seems to have fixed the problem.

I used emacs to convert to unix but I'm sure there are other ways.

Not sure how they got converted in the first place. Maybe my unzipper
(I used winrar)?

This doesn't include the PowerCtrl plugin which is (maybe) strange

Yeah, me too.

The linux version has some instructions about deleting the
Cache/plugin-data.yaml file but I can't find this on my Windows
