Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [HOW TO] Squeezelite player on Windows 8 step by step

2018-04-05 Thread Zn0rt

Just a little feedback;

This works exactly as described on Windows 10 Creators Update.

Used nssm (64bit prelease build 2.2.4-101) and a batch file (used latest
libmpg123-0.dll, also works fine).
Syncs perfectly.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [HOW TO] Squeezelite player on Windows 8 step by step

2017-05-09 Thread marflao

Thanks for this tutorial and Ralphy for pointing me here ;-)

I successfully followed the steps described in post #1 to set up
Squeezelite via the command line.

In my case I installed Squeezelite on a WIN 8 notebook (LMS runs on my
NAS) and chose the ASIO driver of my external USB DAC (LHL GO2ASE).
All good so far... even dsf files are played smoothly and synching
between Squeezelite and my other player (a Pi2 w. PicorePlayer) works
like a charm, too.

I also tried the batch file approach but wasn´t able to "get a sound"
via Squeezelite (either using the win32 or win64 binaries) therefore I
removed nssm and went back to the "cmd" approach.

Just one question from my side:
is my understanding correct that once i started Squeezelite via the
corresponding command that the command line window has to stay open as
long as I intend to play something via Squeezelite?
Or in other words: once the command line window is closed Squeezelite
will be shut down as a player in LMS, correct?

Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem on the latest Windows 10 builds. It
worked without problems on older builds. I'm using Windows 10, version
1607, build 15025.1000 (rs_prerelease.170127-1750)

Hi there,
Thanks for your tutorials... the first one worked great for me, but this
one, when I reboot windows, the squeezelite is not showing in LMS. When
I go to Windows Services, I see Squeezelite is PAUSED. When I try to
start it, I get an error message saying
"Unable to start service
The operation could not be completed
An instance of the service is already running"

Which is odd, since there is no "instance of the service" running! I do
have SqueezePlay installed, but it is not running...

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark.

Hello.
I have installed windows 10 on a mac mini (bootcamp partion), and lms
server and Local player is working. Problem is that the volume control
is not controling the volume of the soundcard, just the "soft" volume of
the player, eg. if the soundcard volume is low, i only get low volume
from the player even at max volume.
Is there a way to get the players volume control to change the output
volume from the soundcard ?

Best regards, and thanks for any help !

...or at least in my testing the past few days it has not
I have a habit of sorting out new stuff on VMs before i install /
configure it on my primary PC, and run Hyper-V on Windows 10 for this
purpose.. This is a very reliable process and I can't recall not being
able to make something work on a VM. BUT... I spent a couple of days
trying to get Squeezelite running as a service using NSSM and could not
get it to work.
VMs I tried:
Windows 10 64-bit
Windows 7 64-bit
Windows 8 32-bit
Things I tried:
- unblock the executable and all DLLs
- various compatibility modes for the exe
- various command options in NSSM (different than what was recommended)

In every case the service would start and go immediately to a paused
state. Turned on debug logging for Squeezlite and redirected to a file
and found that on startup the log output was:

squeezelite.exe -o 2 -n SL_Mockingbird -s 192.168.0.15 -d all=debug -f
c:\squeezelite\debug.txt
[14:19:03.943] stream_init:290 init stream
[14:19:03.943] stream_init:291 streambuf size: 2097152
[14:19:03.943] output_init_pa:393 init output
[14:19:03.943] output_init_pa:405 requested latency: 0
[14:19:03.943] output_init_common:342 outputbuf size: 3528000

...and stopped there. Log output for a working interactive desktop
instance was much more complete.

Anyway, this evening I finally gave it a go on my physical W10 64-bit
machine. Installed as a service and started up fine on the first
attempt. Go figure.

Thanks for the great instructions. Worked well on my Win 7 system.

Is is possible to update the first post with newer info?

- The Google code gives a v1.5 archived program, but development seems
to have been moved to Github.
- A Github page provides v1.7.
- Forum user Ralphy provides newer, more comprehensive builds in his
mediafire page but I can't post a link (maybe the forum will let me
  edit this later)

Ralph's build already contains mp3 support.

For the other builds, I copied the later version of libmpg123 (v 1.22.0)
and saw no problems.

I decided to remove the manual install of Squeezelite and installed the
'Local Player' plug-in via LMS. Can't believe I didn't know that was an
option. From the Settings page I can change drivers easily. That side of
thing seems OK now but I still can't get MP3 or Spotify working using
either the MME or ASIO driver.

I know this issue has been flogged but haven't found a straight forward
answer. I understood the Local Player plug-in had MP3 support built in?

I have unpacked MAD MPEG decoder on the player machine but don't know
whether it needs to sit in a certain directory.

Perhaps I am better taking discussion 'here'
seeing I will stick with the plug-in installation.

Not that I know of - I had changed file type settings previously but
have reverted to standard. Below are the directory and LMS file type
settings I have. I've also since had an issue with the Audio Output
changing mid-use. E.g. splaying local FLAC files OK, then Tidal OK, then
go to change back to play local file and no output. LMS is functioning
but no sound. Checking the output list the DAC ASIO output I was using
(#6) has changed to #5 ?

What happens if you switch squeezelite to the ASIO Out corresponding to
your DAC by command?

cmd
squeezelite-win.exe -o x

x = number of ASIO driver

You find good explanation for squeezelite commands at the Internet.

2015-12-31 Thread adamg

Thanks for instructions @sp1976

I have installed Squeezelite on the Mini PC (MPC) I've been playing with
and everything is working well except Spotify and MP3 files.

Playback is from the MPC connected to a Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 via USB
using proprietary ASIO driver. Control is via iPeng. When synced to my
SBT the screen shows an an error with the file type when attempting to
play Spotify, or MP3s from my local library.

I am using the 'Official' Spotify plug-in. I have extracted the MP3
playback support as recommended / instructed but had to manually copy
the libmpg123-0.dll into the squeezelite-win folder to achieve the same
file list as shown in original post.

I would appreciate advice to get Spotify functioning. I am yet to try a
different audio output as I would prefer to use ASIO.

Nothing happened when I tried this on my PC.
Squeezelite-win only hangs with out any output or response what so ever

I assume this may have to do with the fact that may LMS is remote

[SlimDevices: Plugins] [HOW TO] Squeezelite player on Windows 8 step by step

2014-02-04 Thread sp1976

[HOW TO] Squeezelite player on Windows 8 step by step

This is my first step by step, written to help non-techy people to setup
squeezelite player (all kudos to Triode for this great little friend of
our Squeezebox environment).
Prequisitions:
I. You have LMS already installed (either on the same machine or
separate)
II. This tutorial is based on Windows 8 environment
III.You have basic knowledge about Squeezebox and LMS behavior

1. Download squeezelite for windows from here
https://code.google.com/p/squeezelite/downloads/list

2. Unzip it squeezelite-win.zip to your final destination for example
native Windows download folder. If you want you can rename this folder
to “Squeezelite” and squeezelite-win.exe to squeezelite.exe as well (not
mandatory).

3. Do not try to run squeezelite-win.exe stored in your unzipped folder.
You need to run it via cmd.exe (command line). I’ll show you how in next
steps.

4. To add mp3 playback support, install either libmad-0.dll or
libmpg123-0.dll in the same directory as this file. Suggested by Triode
source:
- download http://www.mpg123.de/download/win32/mpg123-1.14.4-x86.zip
from MPG123
- extract mpg123-1.14.4-x86/libmpg123-0.dll into this directory (the
file is approx ~282k when extracted).

Now your Squeezelite folder should look like this:

15558

5. In the address toolbar write “cmd” (without quotes) and press enter

15559

6. Now Command Line should open

15560

7. Your first step now will be to determine your audio output. In the
command line write:
-squeezebox-win.exe –l-
TIP: if you want to copy commands and paste into command line dialog box
just use your mouse: copy desired text and using your mouse right button
choose from context menu “Paste”.

This will list all your audio outputs and should look like this:

15561

8. Ok, now very important thing – we have to determine what audio output
is your “squeezelite audio output”. Write down the numbers of your audio
outputs; we’ll need it later.
TIP: If you are going to use external DAC, especially USB DAC you have
to connect it BEFORE running –l command for listing your audio outputs.

9. The easiest way to find out which output to choose is to follow these
steps:

9a. Run your Logitech Media Server and if you have another Squeezebox
player play any music. This will tell us that we have audio signal
coming from your LMS. Now go to next step.

10. Now you should understand basic squeezelite commands (all without
quotes!!!):
“-o” – this command tells squeezelite what audio output to choose
“-n” – after this command you can specify name of your squeezelite
player
“-s” – this is command for telling your squeezelite player what’s your
LMS ip
11. Now we’ll write command to start squeezelite:
squeezelite-win.exe -o 7 -n SqueezeliteWIN -s 192.168.0.122
where:
“7” is my audio output (in my case these are speakers connected to
headphones output)
“SqueezeliteWIN” is my squeezelite player name
“192.168.0.122” is my LMS IP address
12. After running this command go back to LMS, best way is to open it
via web browser. Now you should see your newly started squeezelite
player.

15562

Now you should sync your squeezebox players.
If you can hear music form both of your players – good for you.
No? Don’t panic. You have to choose different audio output.
Close the command line dialog box, and open it again (just like in the
step 5).
Now type (or paste) this command:
-squeezelite-win.exe -o 7 -n SqueezeliteWIN -s 192.168.0.122-
but now change the audio output number after “-o” command. Repeat, until
you here music from your squeezelte player.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [HOW TO] Squeezelite player on Windows 8 step by step

2014-02-04 Thread sp1976

Now I’ll show you how to start your squeezelite player as a service (no
longer command line needed to start squeezelite).

STEP 1: Create .bat file
1. Open new text file using your Text editor.

2. In your newly created text file we have to place the path to where
your squeezelite player is stored and the parameters you already know if
you have followed the steps in previous parts of my tutorial. My
squeezelite player is stored in default windows download folder so I
need to put in my text file the following line:

C:\Users\sptak\Downloads\squeezelite-win\squeezelite-win.exe -o 7 -n
SqueezeliteWIN -s 192.168.5.172

3. Now we will save this file as .bat file.

15563

Save as - All files - Squeezelite.bat

IMPORTANT: Do not forget to name your bat file with “.bat” extension
#61514;

Now we have .bat file we will use in the next step

STEP 2: Run squeezelite player as a service
1. Please download NSSM http://nssm.cc/download . This tool will help us
to run squuezelite as a service.
Download current NSSM version and unzip it.
VERY IMPORTANT: You cannot move this folder after running squeezelite as
a service. I strongly suggest to place this folder in the place where it
can stay forever or to the next Windows reinstallation #61514;

2. Now copy the path to the right NSSM folder (win32 or win64 depending
on your operating system). For me the path is:
C:\Users\sptak\Downloads\nssm-2.21.1\win32
Write it down.

3. Now you have to open Command line with administrator privileges in
the right folder. Here is how to do it:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2754-elevated-command-prompt-open-windows-8-a.html

You should see something like this:

15564

4. Now write
-nssm install-

5. New popup window will appear:

15565

6. Now choose in the Path line .bat file created in step above. Name
your service (Squeezlite or other name of your choice) and click
“Install service”.

That’s it. To be sure restart windows and you should see in your LMS
squeezelite running.
