Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.56

I have a similar problem on another machine where if i open the library
it says moose.moo does not exist would you like to create on, to which
i click yes, then the scan bar pops up and immediately vanishes. I've
removed moose and deleted the reg key, and started from scratch but it
still does it.

Ps, is there a way to completely remove moose, as when i delete the
folder containing the exe and the .moo file, then extract a new copy,
the server info is already there.

Along with the .exe, .moo file and thumbs folder, Moose also uses the
following registry key for its settings:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Moose

It should be safe to just delete this key in regedit, although, as
with all things
registry, be careful..

I keep meaning to add a 'reset to defaults' option in the preferences which
deletes the key.

This could be the IP number / name issue. If you've entered an IP number
in Moose's server address, try switching it to the pc's name. or vice versa.
I'm hoping this is fixed in the next build, but I've not been able to repeat
it myself.

Also try turning off the fast scan option in moose's settings.

I have ruled out the firewall, but have upgraded slimserver to the

If i delete the moose.moo file, and run moose then open the library,
moose does not complain at all, which before, moose used to prompt to

When you select the fullscreen window icon, Moose ends up saving space
on the wrong vertical side of the screen, so I end up with Moose
reserving a taskbar-width area of screen real estate up and down the
right side of the screen when in fact my taskbar is running up the
left side of the screen, and thus covering/overlapping the Moose
display. (this may be a windows quirk and nothing in your code)

I'm also having problems with Moose not maximizing properly. I'm
running my taskbar at the top of the screen (more convenient on a

Otherwise, thanks for a great application!

links to other albums by the same artist.. Also I guess the popup menu
could list an album's tracks pretty easily, and allow playing/adding.
The panel would be particularly handy for touchscreen mode I guess.
Touch the cover, panel appears with tracklist and options to play whole

I'll check this out over the weekend - possibly a bug's crept in.. I want to

Yes, you should be able to copy moo files around. I've started sharing
a central one at home now and have a few moose's using it, although
there are issues when it gets updated.

When Slimserver rescans or adds stuff to its database, all its IDs can
change, so Moose has to do a total rescan to be safe. Moose checks
when slimserver last changed the database and suggests you rescan
if it was later than its own last rescan. You should only get this warning
if Slimserver's done something with its database though.

I keep meaning to improve the thumbnail re-caching a bit.. Currently it
re-fetches and replaces lots of perfectly happy thumbnails.. This should
help speed rescans up quite a bit hopefully..

 3) Do we still need to vote for bug 4595 (to browse folder...)

Ah, no, the browse folder stuff's in there now I think, although it'll only
work on recent SS7's.. I intend to improve support for it beyond the
tree-view at some point..

1) What I used to do with CDs when wandering (instead of precise idea)
2) Browse the covers...
3) Stop on one...
4) Flip it to read the track list
5) Start with one song and the rest random (I use to choose my CD
players if they allowed 1st song random)

Well how about adding some extra horns to the Moose, especially the
cover chooser :
1) As it is
2) Humm, i stay (hover mouse) a bit longer on one album
3) Display track list
4) Right click : start with Random (actually can be set @ player
level)

Well what I mean is that I would love to acces tracks from Cover

2. Firewall issues.. Try temporarily disabling windows firewall and all other

On my second monitor, it seemed impossible, had to kill moose.

Either F11 or Esc should exit fullscreen mode. It probably should
have a button or something at the top.

Not a huge fan of the yellow/green buttons though!

I use a black desktop which means the menu bar kinda disappears when it
 has focus.

Ah, the next version will have a different titlebar again.. It's currently
dark blue, but if I get time I'll add an option to customise it.
I keep messing about with the buttons too..

That was it! I switched to the flat setting and the CPU cycles went to
near-zero when the music stopped. It must of been there with .55 but I
hadn't noticed it.

Thanks for your help.

The 'flat' setting turns off a lot of the graphical stuff if it's that
 that's causing
problems, and the 2 bitmap styles are fairly speedy.

Hmmm, shouldnt be using that much.. Possibly the new buttons are
causing problems, although that wouldnt explain the SB3 behaviour.
Did 0.55 exhibit the same behaviour, or is this something new ?

Moose does poll the server, but it shouldnt be using much CPU in doing
so. If setting the background to flat doesnt help, maybe send me a log via
private mail and I'll see if I can spot anything..

Hi Bruce..

The scanning code's (theoretically) not changed since 0.55.. Did 0.55 work ok ?

Other than firewalls and mysql being locked-down, the only other vista issue
I'm aware of is a slight quirk in the hostname/ip address system.

What do you have in your preferences-server-ip address field ? If it's
an IP address, try changing it to a hostname, and if it's a hostname, try
changing it to an IP address..

I've been unable to repeat this problem myself, so let me know if this fixes
things and I'll pop it on the site.

Thanks,

Yes .55 worked.

I am on a clean vista install. I shut both computers off last night.
Booted them up this morning and tried to scan again. I got the moose
(not responding) for about ten seconds but no other error message and
then all of a sudden it started to scan. (and did so successfully)

I made NO setting changes. So it is fixed. We just don't know WHY :)

Musta been my expert computer skills :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.56

2007-05-21 Thread Dr Lovegrove
Ok, just uploaded Moose 0.56 to both the group and the site..

Briefly, the new stuff:

* New look and feel - custom title-bar, menus, transparent buttons, etc..
* New touchscreen, party and fullscreen modes (still in development but usable)
* Mono support - semi-usable under Mono 1.2.4 - seriously ugly though
* Amazon similar albums implemented in library dropdown button menu
* Amazon coverart lookup now implemented
* New popup menu on covertart image
* 'Remove Album' and 'Remove Artist' added to playlist menus
* Multi-screen positioning fixes (let me know if ive broken this again)
* Bugfixes and other stuff which my mind's misplaced..

Enjoy,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.56

2007-05-21 Thread Phil Meyer
Good work - looks great.

I have a few small issues with the cover chooser though:

1. I have artwork bouncing around the screen. However, quite a few albums
appear to be dancing off the top of the screen; I can just see the very bottom
of the artwork in the top-right hand corner of the window.

2. I have albums with missing artwork (displayed as grey circles). In previous
releases there was an option to not display albums with missing artwork, but I
can't find it now. Nb. This would be nice as an option in the Moose
preferences, as I always only want to show albums with artwork in the cover
chooser.

3. If I Repopulate, I get several covers in huge size. If I mouse-over these
huge covers, they return to a normal size, or I can select Tools-Resize to fix
them all. Also once I got really small ones (one or two pixels wide/high),
when I was messing about with Layout and Moving options.

4. I can click-and-drag to move covers anymore - that was useful if you wanted
to get access to some covers underneath the most visible ones.

5. Is there a way to get a random set of cover albums moving around the screen?
I think the Sorting method Default means that I only get the first 100
albums in my collection (maybe add a sorting method Random?).

6. If I use the Alpha bar to select J and change to Artists, it takes the
artist name, not artistsort, so I see Johannes Schmoelling, but not Norah Jones.

Sorry - just found the option within Search-Colours-Only albums with known
cover art.

Ahh, possibly some issues with the non-layout cover chooser mode..
The cover chooser's very much in development still.. I'll check the bounds
problems - sounds like an issue..

Yup.. I think the non-layout code gets a bit confused by all the stuff I
added to make the layout mode paged.. I'll sort the sizing out..

 5. Is there a way to get a random set of cover albums moving around

Yeah, sorting's coming next hopefully.. Good idea with the random too..
I've been meaning to add random tabs to the library list chooser for a while..

 6. If I use the Alpha bar to select J and change to Artists, it takes
the artist name, not artistsort, so I see Johannes Schmoelling, but not
 Norah Jones.

Yup, good point.. Currently I dont read or use artistsort at all, so I'll add
that to the scanning code..

2007-05-21 Thread brucegrr

I am having problem scanning mysql. I have been using Moose for quite
awhileno problems. I edited the my.tt file. Re-read the setup
page.

Mysql resides on a XP computer. I am using Moose from a Vista laptop
(with uac turned off, firewall turned off)

Moose plays the music files fine, it is just the mysql I am having
problem with. I did scan using the folder method and that works fine
but I prefer to use mysql.

My settings in moose are: slimserver port 9092 usr root (I also tried
slimserver) no password

First I get a moose (not responding)

and then problem connecting to mysql server. unable to connect to any
of the specified mysql hosts

Suggestions?

Bruce
