Partially, I solved the problem. I disabled all plugins and enabled only CustomScan, CustomBrwose, TrackStat, SQLlist, DynamicPlaylist. After that I tried to play a random song playlist on the jazz genre (600 songs) in three different ways: 1. Via the standard Slimserver menu (Genre - Jazz - Play. It took 10 seconds before the first song started to play. Apart from this slow start-up, everything worked smooth. 2. Via DynamicPlaylist. Random by Genre (created as you indicated in one of the previous posts) - Jazz - Play. No problem at all: it took only a second before the first song started to play. No strange interruptions anymore... 3. Via CustomBrowse. Genre (created under CustomBrowse) - Jazz - Play. It takes about 30 seconds before the first song starts to play. After that the remote freezes for minutes or is hardly responsive. I reinstalled CustomBrowse but that didn't help. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlists: random playlists
Erland, Well, to put it in another way: most of the times I am just interested in simply playing random songs within a certain genre (I have created about 50 in my tags). In the standard Slimserver setup this is done in just a few button clicks: Browse-Genre-Latin (for example)-Play. For this, I am not in the specific need of Dynamic Playlists or whatsoever. However, this straight forward way only works fine as long as the total number of songs in the genre is somewhat limited, due to the fact Slimserver, as programmed until now, will generate the full playlist in advance. The Dynamic Playlist / SQL Playlist plugin works smarter/quicker, i.e. it generates the playlist on the run. However, working with Dynamic Playlist in combination with Custom Browse simply means more hassle: Browse-Genre-Latin-Play+hold-Random. The above made me wonder why the standard Slimserver setup could not be programmed such that it always generates playlists on the run, i.e. without the specific need to install full featured plug-ins. (Don't get me wrong: I admire your plugin work and I am a satisfied user of many of them) Additionally, I found something strange in the way my Play+hold Random selection works. Currently I have Dynamic Playlists and SQLPlaylists installed and enabled the four pre-programmed Random Playlists (Random Albums, Random Artists, Random Songs, Random Years). When I press Play+hold in a certain genre and scroll to Random, I cannot select anything more. When I press the right arrow it will start playing a random playlist of 20 selected songs in the genre (after 20 songs it stops). Alternatively, when I press the Play button, it will start a random playlist of all the songs in the genre (i.e. just the way the standard Slimserver does it). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlists: random playlists
Play+Hold - Random in Custom Browse works as you describe, it just plays 20 random songs within the ganre. The number of songs played can be changed in Server Settings/Plugins/Custom Browse. This is not a dynamic playlist, so it will not add new tracks when the 20 songs has been played. To accomplish something that works as you like you need to create a new playlist with SQL Playlist plugin of the type Top rated for genre. To be able to choose this playlist type you also needs the TrackStat plugin installed. When creating the playlist, just change the playlist name to Random for genre or something similar and let the rest of the parameters be the default values. I think you need to go to the Dynamic Playlist plugin once in the web interface after this to make sure the new playlist is activated. After this you should be able to: Browse-Genre-Latin-Play+hold-Dynamic Playlist-Random for genre I think this will work both in the Custom Browse genre menu and the standard SlimServer genre menu. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41152 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Hi, I am used to play random songs by selecting a genre and then press the play button. With an ever growing music collection, system gets slower and slower. The feature of Dynamic Playlists creating a limited playlist (e.g. 10-50 songs) is therefore most welcome. However, if I am right, the Dynamic Playlists and SQLPlaylist plugins, can only be activated via Playlists in the main menu or via play+hold - Random Mixer. If you always want the static playlists to be played in random order through Dynamic Playlist, there is an option in the Dynamic Playlist section of Server Settings/Plugins called RANDOM SAVED PLAYLISTS that does this. Hi, I love how Dynamic Playlists creates just a small playlist that is continuously updated. This is big improvement over the standard behavior if you have lots of songs to be included in the playlist. I have some static playlists, often with lots of tracks, that I'd like to play via Dynamic Playlists. However, I'd also like to select songs randomly from these static playlists. Selecting Shuffle|song doesn't work since that just shuffles the songs in the Now Playing list and doesn't influence what songs DP pulls from the playlist. I don't want to just shuffle the static playlist because then I'll get the same random sequence of songs every time I play the playlist. I tried to use SQLplaylist to create a random songs playlist, but it doesn't seem possible to limit the action of SQLplaylist to a static playlist (which I can understand, since that's basically defeating the purpose of SQLplaylist). So, is it possible to do what I want? Is there any way to use Dynamic Playlist to pull songs randomly from a static playlist? -s -- wnshall wnshall's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5886 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41152 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
