Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Tidal stutter using LMS
Persistent mode did not solve my stuttering problem, Tidal on a receiver (plays on a touch fine). Doesn't happen that frequently, maybe 10% of the time. Back to the transcode on LMS, can we revisit which settings to alter?... ...or, I can just live with it, skipping to the next selection or a different album usually resolves it. Yes. The problem I had would happen with the CORE32 based LMS (i.e. NXP i.MX6 ARM processor, 512Mb memory, custom RTOS PolyCORE) but not an Ubuntu LMS (i.e. iCore7 processor, 16Gb RAM). So I think memory allocated to network buffering is part of my issue. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I'm pretty sure it NOT hearing the same symptoms. The symptoms I heard 1. Somewhere mid track (usually after 5 mins) - player will skip to next track. 2. Skip a chunk in the middle of a track but not replaced by silence - as if a chunk of music was lost. 3. At end of track usually between last 45-15 secs - silence but time clock counts down at x secs to go, then at zero resets back to x secs to go and counts down again & again. With this issues, occasionally player may eventually progress to next track. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Also on Hifi Trial so no access to MQA. 36968 I think the main issue is the duration - it is 17 mins long. "Persistent Mode" solves similar problems for users with podcast (i.e. long continuous track). A secondary issue is probably encoding - which also affects the memory required for buffering (these are TCP/network buffers). I had problem often shortly after 5mins - perhaps with m4a track it might happen at 10-15mins. If that is the case probably a track longer than 25 mins would be needed. +---+ |Filename: RhapsodyinBlue.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36968| +---+ bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I've just been testing Tidal Flac with new Muse speaker on an CORE32 8.2.0 system (default File Types settings) and I got jumps and other issues with a track (Rhapsody in Blue 17min). Jumps and funny silent loop 45 sec before end. Problems were reproducible (i.e. no clean playback of track) and so I tested with Receiver and Squeezeamp - same sort of problems. Then tested with recent 8.3.0 on Ubuntu - same track - no issue with Receiver or Muse. If the issues was only compression, this shouldn't be the case. I'll try to test with 8.2.* on Ubuntu. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The stuttering seems to happen at the same places(s) in the affected tracks on each play. For example at the start of My Own Soul's Warning by The Killers. This shows as 1059kbps 44.1kHz, FLAC. While the stuttering is happening, the LMS Server (an HP Microserver) shows less than 10% CPU usage. I have tried with wifi and wired connection to both the Booms and the Duet with the same results. The Pi plays great just using its on board wifi. I have tried the custom-convert.conf mod using sox (although I'm not exactly sure what that does) and that fixes the stuttering, but I can't use that because it stops me from being able to fast forward within tracks. bitsubatsu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70679 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Are you playing Tidal AAC streams? Reason for asking is that the Boom and AFAIK also the Duet cannot play AAC streams natively, while piCorePlayer 6.1.0 can. When playing Tidal AAC streams on the Booms and the Duet, transcoding from AAC to FLAC (or MP3) is done on LMS, while pCP does not need transcoding. So the stutter that you experience with Booms and Duet may have something to do with the transcoding. Possible explanations may be that the hardware on which LMS runs is not powerfull enough, or that the bandwidth of the Wifi connection is not sufficient for reliable streaming of FLAC streams. | LMS 8.0 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC Zero | SqueezeAMP | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I also found that I experienced stuttering with some TIDAL content. I have 3 Booms and a Duet, and all had the same problem with some tracks. I recently set up a Raspberry Pi with PiCorePlayer 6.1.0 and a HiFiBerry Dac+ Pro to see if that made any difference and lo and behold the tracks that stutter when playing on the Booms/Duet do not stutter on the Pi. bitsubatsu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70679 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Tidal stutter using LMS
You can add an "I" to have both LOCAL/TIDAL working (TIDAL from STDIN). *Caveat*: LOCAL will allow "search", but Tidal won't. Could you please try with the very latest LMS8 nightly build? The logs say something about "wimp://" so these mechanics should go somewhere else. WiMP (yes!) was the music service developed in Norway before it got a new American management, which decided to rename it to TIDAL before going international, for obvious reasons :-) -- Michael ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You can add an "I" to have both LOCAL/TIDAL working (TIDAL from STDIN). *Caveat*: LOCAL will allow "search", but Tidal won't. As in: Code: flc flc * * # IFT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v} [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ - Not sure what's being done behind the curtain. STDIN would imply that someone else orders the "search/skip" from Tidal, and [flac]/[sox] break because STDIN is killed. But who? The logs say something about "wimp://" so these mechanics should go somewhere else. maweber's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64980 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for the workaround to re-encode the flac files, that worked well and eleminated the stuttering for me :) There is just one side effect, I wasn't able to play a subsection of a flac file anymore. In my use case this means I have single flac files that contains a complete album or livesets. Additional files with cue sheets are used to navigate to each song individually. With the above fix I wasn't able to play a specific song anymore, instead squeezebox server stopped playing and I got bored with silence. So I have adopted the re-encoding fix to allow playing of subsections again: Code: flc flc * * # FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v} [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ - As sox isn't able to cut out subsections of a file this fix uses flac itself to re-encode the data. I didn't measure if flac might costs more CPU cycles compared to sox ;) have phun Phil PiF's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70191 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111370 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Tidal stutter using LMS
I'm also having this issue with stuttering and jittering sound from Tidal, but going through mysqueezebox.com (using FLAC). It appears only with newer albums or tracks, and I first noticed the problem sometime beginning of 2019. Strangely enough it does not happen with all tracks from newer albums - sometimes it is hardly noticable and sometimes tracks will just stutter really badly. It's happening a lot more frequently with new albums. Will I need to give up my squeeebox? Can we expect Tidal to survive in squeezebox, or is it simply passing due date slowly with Tidals updates to their encoding...?? Is anyone looking into this?
