Thanks WhaleOil- i think that's probably the case, I removed the plugin from both places, restarted SC, reinstalled from the plugin repository, and it worked. tried editing the install.xml file as you suggest, and after editing the plugin stopped working. uninstalled, reinstalled a few times, and it's back now. more over, cover art is once again displaying on the Touch (used as a controller). all seems to be good. many thanks for the helpful tips. -- 4 TB Drobo-->FW 800-->mac mini-->Ethernet Transporter--> Wireworld Eclipse 6 coax-->Meridian G61 G61--> Nordost Red Dawn-->Primare 30.3 Primare-->Ocos--Vienna Acoustics Beethoven/Maestro netchord's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21002 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91737 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
Hi netchord I am not sure why this is not working for you. It should work if you install the plugin folder in either location. Is it possible you have it installed in both places? Have you copied the complete folder and all of its sub-folders? Is the iTunesUpdate folder showing up in either the DownloadedPlugins or InstalledPlugins folders within your Library/Caches folder? There is a bug in the new version of the plugin (2.9.0) that is stopping the normal repository download method (from the plugins tab) working properly as the system keeps thinking it needs to update to a new version and it ends up going around in circles. I think this is because the install.xml file in the iTunesUpdate folder refers to version 2.8.3 instead of 2.9.0. The installed plugin should still work though. Might be worth manually changing the version number in this file and see if that helps. Do you get a message that plugins need updating from the home page of the web interface? This would explain why it no longer shows up in the lists of available plugins. If you turn off the 'download updated plugins automatically' option then you should see iTunesUpdate show at the top of the page. Sorry I do not have any definite answers, but hope this helps. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
Hi netchord Just a few (hopefully helpful) comments on your installation approach: - Installing in the directory /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/ as you suggest will work, but you will need to reinstall the plugin if you update to a new version of the server software as this directory will be overwritten by the installation of the new version. (As an aside, because you are using Mountain Lion, it would be worthwhile updating to the beta of 7.7.3 or 7.8 because this will stop your server going to sleep while it is playing music/radio.) - Better to use the ~user/Library/Application Support/Squeezebox/Plugins as the install instructions suggest... The trick is that you do have a Library folder in your User folder - it is just hidden by the operating system (this was a new 'feature' introduced in Mac OS X 10.7 and later). To reveal your ~user/Library folder, the easiest way is in Finder, click on Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen and then hold down the alt/option key. As if by magic, your Library folder will appear in the menu, click on this and you can then navigate to the folder you need. You will find all sorts of interesting stuff in the ~user/Library folder, but best not to mess with it or your funny things can happen to your system - maybe this is why Apple felt the need to hide it? - If you install the plugin from the usual plugin tab it will appear in ~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins (your other third party installed plugins should be here already if you have installed any). Manually installing the iTunesUpdate folder to this folder should work as well. Not sure why installing from the plugin tab said "failed to load" for you - may be that you restarted before it had downloaded from the repository? (When the plugin is downloaded, but before it has been installed by restarting the server it should appear in ~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/DownloadedPlugins.) Hope this helps. small update; removed and reinstalled the plugin in the plugins directory of the SC webinterface. unchecked direct update- the instructions are counter-intuitive, but it appears to say that if you're running on a non-windows OS (ie, OSX) to set direct update to "off"; not clear if this means direct update is not supported. now playing is now showing the currently playing track, but says "play count unknown," and all other attributes are listed as unknown as well. -- 4 TB Drobo-->FW 800-->mac mini-->Ethernet Transporter--> Wireworld Eclipse 6 coax-->Meridian G61 G61--> Nordost Red Dawn-->Primare 30.3 Primare-->Ocos--Vienna Acoustics Beethoven/Maestro netchord's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21002 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91737 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I created the latter, created a Plugins directory as well, and restarted SC. I also added iTunesUpdate from the Plugins page in the SC Plugins tab in the web interface, and upon restarting got a message that "the plugin failed to load." i then tried installing the iTunesUpdate folder in the directory where all the other plugins appear to be located (see my prior post): Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/ restarted SC, and voilá, the plugin loaded, and i was able to adjust settings, and check the box for direct update. however, it does not (appear) to work, as play counts in iTunes are not updated. iTunesUpdate does appear as a menu item in the Extras menu of the SC web interface, but nothing shows as playing. i tried uninstalling the plugin in the web interface tab, but after unchaecking the plugin, applying the change, and restarting. it's still there. i have not yet removed the directory manually, but will try that in a bit. sounds like it may be in the wrong place, or it's in the right place, but perhaps there are lines of code that reference the directory structure listed in the instructions? -- 4 TB Drobo-->FW 800-->mac mini-->Ethernet Transporter--> Wireworld Eclipse 6 coax-->Meridian G61 G61--> Nordost Red Dawn-->Primare 30.3 Primare-->Ocos--Vienna Acoustics Beethoven/Maestro netchord's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21002 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91737 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
As I started this thread I should report that I still have not found a way to make iTunes Update work with versions of LMS after 7.5.6. I have now taken the decision to update LMS anyway and stop using iTunes Update. I now use Trackstat/Custom Scan to export a text log file and then use an AppleScript to update iTunes. Although this is less convenient in some ways, it does have the advantage that iTunes does not have to be running all the time on my server which seems to help things run more smoothly. Play counts, ratings and last played dates can be updated in this way, but track skipped information cannot as Trackstat does not record these. Credit for the original AppleScript should go to another poster on these forums... I will post a link when I track it down again myself. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
I'm seeing the same problem here after some upgrades. I'm running LMS 7.7.1; OS X 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.5.3. Also iTunesUpdate is running in direct mode. It's something odd happening in the Mac::AppleScript::Glue module. I've traced the crash to the $iTunesHandle->current_date calls in the iTunesUpdate Plugin module. If they're commented out then the server doesn't crash (but you don't get the played date updated). However a simple test script works fine, so it's something trickier than just the call. I also put a call to current_date immediately after the $iTunesHandle is initialised in iTunesUpdate; and it crashes there, as well, so it's not a handle corruption. If I can figure how to create a new date object from scratch using the Glue code I can probably patch this, but at the moment I can't see how to do this :-( -- Sample test script Code: #!/usr/bin/perl # # Test applescript call to current_date in iTunes # use strict; use warnings; use Mac::AppleScript::Glue::Application; my $iTunes = new Mac::AppleScript::Glue::Application('iTunes') or die "Can't glue to iTunes: $!"; my $track = $iTunes->current_track; print $track->artist,"\n"; print $track->track_number, ': ', $track->name,"\n"; print $track->album,"\n"; my $cdate = $iTunes->current_date; # crashes here in iTunesUpdate print $cdate->{_ref},"\n"; $track->set(played_date => $cdate); my $date = $track->played_date; print $date->{_ref},"\n"; -- pwootton pwootton's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=54297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91737 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
Hi, Version 2.8.3 of iTunes Update is working fine for me on OS X 10.5.8 and with iTunes 7.7.1 (I don't use any of the newer iTunes features on my PPC mini so haven't updated it for years). I didn't need to make any changes to it when upgrading from 7.6.* to LMS 7.7.* and so have left it alone.
