Re: SXSW update II
-Original Message- From: Amy Haugesag [EMAIL PROTECTED] Stacey Taylor, I think Austin Motel (er, is Stacey still planning to attend? Someone let me know, please.) Yes, I'm still attending, just in deep lurk mode after my move. I'm currently working on putting up a page of all the off-SXSW events that I've caught in various emails...and somehow I'm missing all the Yard Dog and Broken Spoke events...does anyone have those handy? I'll post the address when I finish it...should be in a few hours. Sure looks like Junior and others who opt to forego the wristbands will have plenty of options...too manyg. Stacey
sxsw room available...
Hey all, turns out the folks I thought would be using my double reservation aren't, and the room is up for grabs... it's a single, downtown at the La Quinta for $79 +tax a night originally I had booked it from Monday 3/15 to Sunday 3/21 (checking out on the 22nd) but I'm sure the reservation can be changed. This is the cheapest of the official hotels downtown, and within walking distance of Stubbs and the 6th St. venues. I need to cancel it by the end of today to avoid penalty...email me offlist if interested. The Broken Spoke is listed as one of the official venues this year. Your wristband'll get you in. Stacey -Original Message- From: Ph. Riders in the Sky help
Forgive my ignorance, but after witnessing Ranger Doug in Nashvegas at that Bill Monroe tribute I've been wishing I had some Riders in the Sky in my collection. Where to start? I looked through AMG to Country and half of the cd's listed at the CD NOW site aren't in it. I noticed also that the Best of the West, and Best of the West Rides Again are listed as having favorites from their first five Rounder releases. Am I missing them being different tracks or is this review incorrect? Also, AMG listed an album called Cowboys In Love that sounds right up my alley...is it out of print? Jim and Jennie moved to Philadelphia
One of my favorite local bands, ex-Northampton residents, Jim and Jennies Pine Barons...will be playing a show in NYC this weekend and have some upcoming dates in their new home in Philly. Check them out if you can! We'll be back at the Old Devil Moon {in NYC} on February 5. Show starts around 10;30 or 11:00 and as usual there's no cover, the beer is cheap etc. On February 13, we'll be at the Lionfish in Philadelphia. On February 17, we'll be at the Khyber in Philadelphia opening for Tar Hut recording artists King Radio. See you at the shows! Re: A feature on Boston Country
-Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Morse didn't mention the Fritters Who've broken up Jon...sorry to be the one to break the news. Rumor has it that Betsey will be trying to advance herself as a guitarist and strike out on her own at some point. The other band that Fritters members are in - The Pineapple Ranch Hands - a hawaiian country swing band - are doing quite well though...coming to a Hellcountry show near you. This article was mentioned to me about thirty times in the last few days, and I'm wondering how he could overlook Hellcountry if he's on my mailing, and email lists. Maybe being ignored is better than being lumped into something though, and he was pretty far off target about the scene. Enough, my blood pressure is rising and I'll be damned if I'm going to let itg. Nice to have Country Standard Time do a feature on the Hellcountry series this month though, and issues are all over (insert your) town with the Steve Earle / Del McCoury cover. Re: A feature on Boston Country
-Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dang it, but how ironic that Country Standard Time gives Hellcountry it's due, while the Globe misses the point altogether. Yah, but the Herald just emailed that they're putting something in this week and want an interview so f*** 'em I sayg. Some folks out there *do* actually know something about the scene they write about. Re: Clip: Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out
My best wishes go to all the employees and artists receiving pink slips It's been a really bad week, bad month and bad last year or so for folks who earn their living at a label. While not part of this shake-up I too was pink slipped this weekg. It is just unthinkable especially for those who've been there 10, 20 years that this kind of treatment can happen, and as it has with me - may radically change the direction many of these folks look to for their next opportunity. There aren't enough label jobs left for all those people to find, even if they wanted them. Hoping each last one of them finds the end of their rainbow, Stacey
free web pages for bands...
Hey all you struggling band types without HTML skill, here's a little heads up. There is a website at http://www.fyou.com and the guy who coordinates it is Gabe [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Basically he's interested in putting up pages free of charge for independent bands, with audio clips...and for some bands, having something on the web for free can be a very good thing. help needed
Hello my p2 friends, Due to unforeseen circumstances, I could use the help of an internet savvy person willing and able to administrate/take over the listservs I currently handle. Ideally someone with university access to free servers. The lists in question are p2ontour, p2ontour-digest and yes, even the twangfest "aka the fluff channel" mailing list. Administratively they aren't that hard to deal with if you've dealt with majordomo before and I'd be happy to spend the time to make sure they can be transferred seamlessly without interruption to the subscribers at large. Please reply off-list if you can offer help to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, Stacey

Joyce Linehan wrote: I know there was a thread about this recently, but I didn't have one then, so I wasn't paying attention. Does anyone know of anyplace in New england where I can get a 78 player repaired? Thanks. Re: Syd Straw question
At 09:56 AM 1/12/99 -0800, you wrote: Did I read a post here a few month back that Syd Straw's 'Surprise" would get a CD reissue -- maybe on Koch? If anyone knows whether this will happen, or if anyone has an unwanted CD copy of "Surprise", I'd love to know about it. Syd is cool. If you've got a turntable and a CD burner I've got a sealed copy of the album, obviously never touched by my grubby paws. I don't know who originally posted this but I have a cd copy, in a promo package that is kind of unique but annoying as all hell. The outer sleeve is about 4 X 8 with the album graphics, and inside the disc is "spring loaded" with an elastic band contraption. You pull the cd out and "SUPRISE" it springs across the room and gets scratched landing on the floor. I'd be happy to tape it for whomever made the original query. Contact me offline.
