What are the 5 most criminally underappreciated albums of the '90s? I know you folks won't let me down. I don't care about genre, although if you want to list five in each genre you can think of that's cool too. Be creative. Go year by year if you want. If you've got picks for the 5 most criminally underappreciated albums of '99 include those too. A plain list seems fine to me. But if you're inclined, a paragraph justifying each choice is even better. I wonder if there will be much agreement? take care, Jake Jake London

RE: NATO bombs
Please stop everyone. I'm *so* sorry. I did not intend to start a war (sorry!) here on P2 about this issue. I should never have posted a response to Alex on P2, Don's right. It's a very personal and emotional issue for me and my emotions got the better of my judgement temporarily. There are many many sides to this issue. Again, I'm really really sorry, but please stop. This stuff doesn't belong here. And not only that, Rebecca's response was rude and ill-informed - IMO. Kosovo is not Bosnia and Alex is not Milosovic, for crissakes. Jim Nelson Um Jim, I'm a little confused. Do you: A. Agree with the list dad that it doesn't belong here and observe that rule yourself or are you B. going to claim you agree, then consider yourself exempt from the rule *and* offer your opinion about the issue and Rebecca as well like you did above. Seems a bit hypocritical to me. I don't care whether you agree or not agree with Rebecca or Stuart. Just don't be a hypocrite. -paul [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: NATO bombs
Alex, Sorry to be rude but perhaps it would be a good idea to get your country's troops out of Kosovo. Milosevic is out of control and the only language the the man understands is military action. I was recently in Bosnia and Croatia and saw the lovely aftermath of the Serb's invasion of those countries. RE: Tweedy @ Salon
Given the recent traffic here and especially on P1, I'd say the man has a valid point. rebecca, who is still unsure if she likes "Summerteeth" -Original Message- From: Dave Purcell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] From a Salon interview with Jeff Tweedy. Joshua Green is the writer. Who is he and why is he such a dick? Q: I was thinking specifically of the No Depression purists who are kind of militantly pro-twang, you know what I mean? A: I really have no concern for them. It's great that they have plenty of music to like. I think it's interesting that they still talk about us. It's like something for them to talk about that this band continues to let them down. I think there are a certain group of people that are really purist about it, but somehow they can't find it in their hearts to just let us alone and get on with their lives. I (heart) Matt Benz. rebecca -Original Message- From: Matt Benz [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] I'm not for a total ban on SUV's. I kinda like the old models, but I'm not crazy about having 20 of em to one car on every road hiway biway expressway I'm on
RE: SUV my first and last
Sorry Don, I feel the need to clarify my previous post also. Stick (and others) have said that it's not the SUVs, its the drivers. Well yes, any car becomes a dangerous weapon when in the hands of a drunk or bad driver. However, it IS the SUVs to some degree. These automobiles are so much larger and heavier than the typical car on the road that said typical car stands very little chance in a collision with one. This has been well documented in the media. I personally know someone who suffered serious injury when her car (Volkswagen golf) was hit by one of these cars. She was in intensive care and the driver of the suv walked away without a scratch. It's scary. If you get hit by one (accidentally or otherwise) you have a good chance of being seriously injured, if not killed. rebecca -Original Message- From: Stick [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Ok Don, sorry but have to say this. I got hit by a SUV, 4 broken ribs and a busted kidney. I was in though a Chevy Blazer, which got hit broadsided, and that Blazer saved my life. Took one hell of a hit. Guess what I'm buying next.. Blazer. I'm just a little scared when I see a SUV coming at me anywhere, but it the driver that's the problem, not the SUV. Twang content-I too am going to the Birchemere to see Del and the boys. -Original Message- From: William F. Silvers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Good question. And I'd agree with you that Stalin was indeed worse than Hitler, though certainly they're both waaay past that "threshold" you mention. Had this discussion off-list with another P2er awhile back. Hmm. g I'd assert that both were the most evil monsters in human history and leave ranking them out of it. One must not forget that adorable tyrant, Pol Pot. He belongs in the same league as the two mentioned above by Bill. rebecca

What in god's name are you talking about? Being There overrated? Oh yea, those Jason and the Scorchers were the best band ever! luv, rebecca -Original Message- From: Dave Purcell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Tweedy should stop protesting (first it was the internet, now it's the alt.country tag) and try to write some decent songs. I'll gladly nominate Being There as one of the most overrated records of the 90s. There aren't enough good songs on there to make a good single disc, let alone two. No fan o' Tweedy, Dave

Merle question
Hello. I bought a Merle Haggard box set a few months ago and have greatly enjoyed it. I recently saw in the Globe that he is coming to the Boston area in a couple of months and am wondering if he is worth going to see. What do you guys think? Anyone seen him recently? Would I be wasting my time/money? Thanks for any and all feedback, rebecca
RE: Merle question
Kat - I can't remember exactly (it was in last Sunday's Globe, I believe) but for some reason I think it's either in Worcester, MA or Lowell, MA sometime in April. I will look closely at this Sunday's paper and let you know the details. Thanks for the ringing endorsement. I will most definitely be there! hopefully seeing you there, rebecca Rebecca - Where in the Boston area will Merle be playing and when? I live in CT so that would not be far for me to travel. Merle is awesome in concert!!! And if you get a chance to meet him you will find out he is a really nice person as well!!! He's concerts are worth more than any money you will spend and you could not find a better way to spend your time - A lifelong memory. Go see for yourself and you won't be sorry. Kat
RE: more 1R1R in ND
Neal Weiss: All I know is, I'm *thrilled* about several releases that have come my way already. At least one, the new Sparklehorse, I've already penciled in for several years worth of enjoyment. Neal, please tell us (me) what else is ringing your bell. As far as Sparklehorse goes, I saw the video on 120 minutes the other night and was wondering...are the rest of the songs sung with distortion used on the vocals? I have read quite a bit about this band here and elsewhere and was pretty excited to hear what they sounded like. Gotta say the song didn't do much for me and that distorted vocal thing is kinda tired. Not saying I'm giving up, just wondering. thanks, rebecca
RE: Buck buck
Twangless, Neal Weiss Ok, since we are talking about indy bands with chicks, what can you tell me about Imperial Teen? Anyone? rebecca
RE: Railroad Jerk
Railroad Jerk were supposed to play Providence, RI and Boston, MA two weeks ago but I heard from some friends who are close to the band that on the way to the Providence show they were in a pretty bad automobile accident and were injured. They cancelled both show. That's all I know. rebecca npimh: "This is the ballad of Railroad Jerk" And for the fella who asked about Railroad Jerk, I think "One Track Mind" may be one of the sleeper records of the decade. If you like the JSBX--but grow tired of the schtick--and you like Beck's wacky electro-folk-hipster-hop-damnation, check it out. Clever without being too cheeky, methinks. I thought Third Rail was a step backward, but good enough to buy used. Are they even around anymore? I haven't heard from them in awhile. Gots to go. Lance . . .
RE: The East Tennessee Contigent Expands (Was: Re: The JudyBats (family tree))
Mike Hayes: Wilson Co may have the most pickups and guns but Giles Co has the fewest teeth!g and we won't even mention that little episode with the hooded fellows, getting started there and all. I thought the KKK originated in lovely east Texas, specifically the town of Vidor. I'm referring to the area north of scenic Beaumont, near the Louisiana border. There is a trio of small towns there (Vidor being one, I can't remember the names of the other two) that are known in local medical circles as the "septic triangle". People have come out of there with the most amazing and unique genetic characteristics. rebecca
