I read somewhere (ICE, maybe) that this will be available exclusively
through Amazon.com for like two months before its general release.
Something about Amazon wanting to flex its muscles by getting an album
on the charts on the basis of only Amazon sales.

don't know about this, but there is a new "import" triple cd on the market
that has all three shows recorded in philly in october of last year of them
doing their first 3 albums. probably only for the hardcore fan, but for those
of us who couldn't make the shows, a nice piece nonetheless.

Yep, and totally pissing off brick and mortar locations who will still
account for the overwhelming majority of the sales.

Whew! What a lot to catch up on. Just got back from SXSW and then took a
ten day vacation. Haven't done that in ten years; now I remember why! Okay,
just cuz it's SPRING and I felt like it, I've included some shows that looked
interesting in a couple other cities. Can't say I can keep it up, but will
try from time to time to post some shows you might not otherwise hear much
about but might want to try to get to if you're not too far to drive. We'll
see how it goes.

Geez, Linda, I hope you're just selecting a few things from that calendar,
because there are a bunch of important dates not included in your listing,
like for instance the AOTD's birthday tomorrow, 4/12; I played a bunch of
his bluegrass stuff on my show last night to celebrate. Sam Bush's birthday
is the 13th, Loretta Lynn's is the 14th, Bob Luman's and Roy Clark's are on
the 15th, and the 17th marks the anniversary of the passing of both Eddie
Cochran and Hank Penny.

Re: Chicago Calendar

1999-03-05 Thread Bob Soron

I dunno if these count as additions or changes or both, but this week's
House of Blues ad says that Dick Dale is the 11th, not the 4th, which
means I may be able to go out on my birthday after all. And the Metro's
got some benefit going, including folks such as Langford, Escovedo,
Fulks, Mavis Staples, and some less roots-oriented stuff. I think it's
the same night that Devil in a Woodpile are headlining, but don't
remember for sure. (The DiaW show starts late, while this benefit's
early.) And that Wilco instore is also going to be broadcast on 'XRT,
for those who'd rather have trading fodder.

RIP Andy's Chicago Shows list. It was, in a word, comprehensive. I always
was able to pick up a show or two from it, and it was my most reliable source
for amazing band names. Andy was faithful to his labor of love for three
years, and when he lost the passion for it, he was smart enough to quit. So.
. .I'll just salute the happy marriage in which he just seems to have found
better things to do with his time, and
soldier on huddled against the wind in the rockin' business of our beloved
metropolis' nightlife diary-keepin' business.

Speakin' of which, hat's off to our mare today.

Well, I 'umbly offer a few additions to Linda's cast of
thousands...

The Empty Bottle ad includes the most important band in
history:

Friday, March 5 at 10:00 PM,
Plastic People of the Universe, $7.00 (USD).

Here's one more for the Cultural Center:

 The Cath Carroll Band
 Saturday, February 6, 5 - 6:30 p.m., Randolph Cafe
A semi-acoustical performance by the English vocalist of mostly original works from
past and pending compact discs that blends ambient grooves, non-strident vocal
 and varied instrumentation.

Pollstar lists this for Lyle Lovett

03/20/99
Joliet
IL
Rialto Square Theatre

And http://www.kellywillis.com includes this:

 April 1999
 All shows with
 Bruce Robison

Thursday, April 1, Chicago, IL at Schuba's.
Friday, April 2, Chicago, IL at Schuba's.

And anyone in the Western suburbs should check out the
schedules for Fermilab (including The Jazz Passengers with
Deborah Harry, March 6) and College of DuPage (including
Natalie MacMaster -- Apr. 17, and Leo Kottke -- June 5).

And the Chicago Bulls, with 1999 NBA-leading scorer Toni
Kukoc, open their season this weekend.

Non-stridently yours,
