4.2b6 minor problems
OX 10.2.6, PowerMail 4.2b6 A few things that I noticed that are still not fixed from earlier version, that I posted some months back: Column sorting: If I select the Account column or the Label column for sorting of a list, they don't seem to be alphabetized or sorted in any logical way. The same account or label is clustered together, but they are not in either alphabetical order nor in the order they appear in the setup screen. Sorting by Status, Subject, From, To, Date, or Size works fine. My preference would be to sort in the order that I arranged them in the setup screen. Powermail Preferences Indexing and spelling: I'm using Jaguar's built-in spell checker, but there seems to be no way to deselect Excalibur, which was the spellchecker that I used previously. I can select any other app, but not nothing. Thanks, Howard

hmmm... I think I'll wait with upgrading to the next beta as my current version works quite well :) there was a bug at some point that if you hadn't selected a folder or a message in the browser, the return result was zero. the problem you guys are having doesn't sound the same though. ---marlyse -former message(s) quotes:- As I mentioned in a message that probably crossed yours, searching on a word gives me an instant No item found even when I know the word is common, for example, that. I can't relate it to anything particular, since I don't do searches very often, but I first noticed it a couple of days ago. I have exatly the same problem with the last version. I wonder then, if it is a system related problem? Not heard anybody else having such problems (so far) as you've rebuild all within PM. You might check your drive with an utility and/or fix permissions (seems to handle a lot of problems) next to re-logging and/or rebooting the machine itself. Did you try creating a new user environment and does it behave just as badly there? If not, you might want to create a new user environment, then quit PM, duplicate database and address book and move those manually into the new user environment folder and relaunch PM. This might work. Sorry, not much more on ideas here how to handle your problem. ---marlyse original message(s) follows As I mentioned in a message that probably crossed yours, searching on a word gives me an instant No item found even when I know the word is common, for example, that. 4.2b6/fc Search error
Hi all, This is the first time I have tried the 4.2beta and after updating the dbase and so on tried a search with the new search mechanism with the following error: An indexing error occurred (index) Class Q1E what=12 when = 34 (index) The search was for something I knew was there, simply as a means of assessing the speed and accuracy of the new engine. Another search for subject containing 'urban history' produced a nil response even though there are several msgs with that in the subject line. Have you tried Rebuild Index... option for the Database in the File menu? The options displayed by pressing cmnd+option when you launch PM do something different (apparently) and do not help the search function in any way. This is a problem I had with an earlier beta and was only resolved by a more comprehensible explanation of what was required, from Jerome. Re(3): Cannot search in 4.2b3
we need to step back and take it one by one - because I do not have the option to do a search on 'any field' and thus think that we might not talk about the exact same stuff. a) when you do a search - how do you invoke the search dialog box? via the menu bar or with cmd-f ? b) when the 'search messages' window is open, what do you select from the first popup? what from the second? c) which criteria do you select (from the popup)? d) do you enter a full search string or just a word? ---marlyse -former message(s) quotes:- As Scott reminded, are you still having the problem with 4.2b6? Yes. I have installed 4.2b6 and rebuilt the database and the index. Searching for a word in any field still gives me an instant No item found message, but searches on date, etc. seem to work fine. [ANN] PowerMail 4.2b6/fin. candidate 3 now available
Greetings, We are hereby pleased to announce the availability of PowerMail 4.2 beta 6/ final candidate 3, which can be directly downloaded from: = http://www.powermailtech.com/pm4.2b6fc3.sit = This release is NOT public; it is exclusively aimed at members of the PowerMail-discuss and PowerMail-testing lists, as well as to folks who kindly tested b1 and reported items that we may have fixed below: -- What's new in the PowerMail 4.2b6/final candidate 3 (from version 4.2b3) -- - The number of unread/waiting messages could be wrong (sometimes negative); if you have a database which still shows this in this new version, hold the command and option keys upon startup and check consistency, which will fix this - Under Classic and Mac OS 9 / 8.6, we now warn when there is less than 1Mb of memory available instead of a mere 256k; this would be an advance warning sign that searching might fail unless given more memory - Rebuilding the sort indices in PowerMail First Aid no longer messes up the order of settings lists such as accounts, signatures and text clippings - AppleScripts saved by Script Editor 2.0b2 can now be placed in in the Scripts folder and will display in the AppleScripts menu - APOP login only worked when the Always use APOP was checked; what we inteded to do initially, and now do properly, is try APOP in all cases and only try USER/PASS in case of failure unless the user explicitely requires it. - Replied IMAP messages were not marked as such - Mac OS 8.6 compatibility is now fixed Known limitations: This release is not packaged as a disk image but simply as a Stuffit archive - Command-F should select the search field (when the search window was already opened in background) - In the release version, we will cease to import OS X address book items which contain no e-mail addresses - A couple of command-key equivalents will be updated - The final version will also have other localized languages * * * * * * * Please discuss your findings either: - on the PowerMail discussion list - using the Send a message to PowerMail support option in the Help menu of registered versions - if needed, by private post to us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Possible crash logs - with a description of the situations that might have lead to them, are also of interest. Thanks in advance, and kind regards, The PowerMail development team
